Ive been looking for a booktuber with the same tastes as me for yearssss. A few weeks ago I literally typed "best books" into the RUclips search bar and one of your favorites videos was the first result. I am sosososo happy I found this channel! You have the amazing suggestions, and I love all of them :)
Bilinguals have THE BEST conversations! It's like we make up our own language, isn't it? Do you also use English verbs as if they were French, or vice-versa? My sisters and I do that with Portuguese/English and nobody can understand us when we talk! :D Haha!
Emily you're seriously one of my favorite members of the book community because you read so many books that I would otherwise never find out about! Love your channel
The bit about switching between English and French in conversation is so relatable to me. I'm also French Canadian and since I read/listen/write in English all the time, my brain has completely switched on me. I was also very terrible in English in high school, but with Uni (and a lot of TV shows, especially British ones) I'm now waaay better than I ever thought I would be.
'The Count of Monte Cristo' is one of my favourites books EVER. Such a pity it takes so time to enjoy it 'cause it's HUGE. Also, if you haven't read 'The Three Musketeers', you definitely should!!!
I always get so extremely happy when I see that you have uploaded a video! No matter if it is on your beauty or on your book channel! i mean, i get excited with lots of youtubers uploading, but when you upload a video, i really do get happy! :)
Yes would love a book shelf tour! 💗I also wanted to say thank you so much for your booktube videos & Goodreads reviews! You have honestly inspired me to make more time in my day for reading rather than waste time on social media and other pointless activities 😜😘
Hello from Montreal! I can confirm that you CAN borrow books on Overdrive for your Kindle! You just need another app to change the format from EPUB to MOBI, which I'm able to do with Calibre (it works on PCs and Macs). And since these are library books, they're technically locked or "DRM'ed," so you'll need a way to de-DRM the e-books so that you can do the format conversion. On my computer, I installed a de-DRM plug-in for Calibre and now I don't even need to think about it. The best part is that once the e-book on Calibre (and then subsequently your Kindle), the books are there forever. No need to return them lol. If you have any questions, just let me know! :)
Keep on the good work, you're awesome!
Emily you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs! I followed your beauty channel for a while before I stumbled upon your book tube channel! I am grateful for your honest opinions and transparency with your viewers. I like hearing why people don't like a book, even if it doesn't dissuade me from buying/reading it! Also, speaking of unpopular opinions, I've wanted to pick up the lunar chronicles because people raaaaaave about them! What are your thoughts? (Or anyone else's lol) I read the first few pages of cinder and I wasn't quite sold!
If you're looking for a way to organize your books, I think I found a great way to do it! I have two bookshelves now, and I made one my read shelf and the other my rainbow shelf of unread books. Before I got my second shelf, I had my unread rainbow books at the top of my shelf, and the rest afterward. I also organize my read books my author and when they were published. I don't know if that will help you in your book organization, but I really have loved this system for a while! :D
My problem is that I have more books I haven't read than books I have read... I tend to only keep the ones I like after reading them so it's hard to keep them organized :S Who would have thought that collecting books would be so much work :P
Yeah, I had that same conflict. I have about 1/3 of my books unread. But, over the past few months I've been speeding through my unread ones! I guess it makes me more motivated to read them? lol. I'm sure my bookshelf organization will be much different once I find a place where my bookshelves can be beside each other. Can't wait to see what you do! :)
Yay! So glad to see you'll be doing the Pottermore tests :) I also thought you would be a Ravenclaw (that's what I am). Maybe you're a Hatstall and that's your secondary house (if you're not familiar with that term, J.K. Rowling introduced it recently and it basically means that it's hard for the Sorting Hat to choose between two houses). Also, on a completely personal note, I wanted to let know that my patronus is a fox ;)
Yesss that bilingual life. My poor husband at first, my family would slip into speaking our main language without realizing it or add a word here and there in a different language and he'd be sitting there like "whaaat is happening..." lol.
If you're interested in ebooks at all you should check out your library. I live in Halifax and recently moved from Alberta and I am able to get access to Overdrive through my library online. I just have to make an Overdrive account and put in my library card number. Ebooks are so convenient for travelling and stuff. Oh, and I love your videos :)
I randomly came upon you while watching book related items on youtube on my tv. I think I like your personality. Your voice is not annoying. And I think I could identify w/ like reads.
So for all of those little things I thank you a lot for your videos and all your effort to make us discover some great books. And I read in english for like maybe 5 years now and watching series in VO and this is in fact the best way to improve your english ^^. Btw one one the first reason why I'm following you is because of your personality so i would say you are so right to not care about those who criticise you. J'attend avec impatience ta prochaine vidéo :).
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL EMILY!!! ❤️❤️❤️ you're the most honest book tuber out there! 💕💕💕 and you're so wonderful and sweet! Thank you for making this channel because I use it to escape my every day life :) love you!!!!
Wow you grew so fast! So oroud of you, have been following your beaury channel for a bit and started following you on this channel last year when you have a few thousand! Congrats!
I was exactly the same as a kid where my parents would read a book to me and I would memorize it and "read" it back to them. I even knew when to turn the page at the proper time haha. I would love to see you take all the Pottermore quizzes! They're relatively short but there's a few of them so I think it'd be an entertaining video. Love your Q&As as always, I love learning more about you! Congrats on your channel!
You don't have access to overdrive through your library?! We have it here in Nova Scotia and I use it a lot for audio books from the library on my phone and ebooks on my iPad. I still prefer a nice floppy paperback like you though! They bring me such joy haha!
I have an account at the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec and they have Overdrive 🤔I only use it for audiobooks on my iPhone though, maybe she meant you can't put it on your kindle?
Owww I loved hearing you speaking French, French Canadian have such a cute accent ! I am French and I started reading in English in order to improve my English :D I'd love to read the Mistborn trilogy but can't decide if I want to get it in English or in French... haha You should read Carry On ! I was skeptikal aswell but I actually liked it !
I've never wanted to read Rainbow Rowell - none of the plots appealed to me except for Carry On because it was basically harry potter fanfiction which intrigued me. I had a lot of fun with it and it stands as the only Rowell book I've read
omg the bilingual thing is so true!! (i speak english and french too) for me i think in whatever language i have listened to most recently. so if i watch a french movie or listen to french music i think more in french but i'm surrounded by english mostly on a day to day basis. :) i love your channel!
You really grew fast, congratulations! I can still remember watching your first video while it still was your first video. I really love your content :) And I would love to see you do the Pottermore quizzes. And I do need to read more classics as well, I am going to read one per month.
Side question Lol Where did u get your earings? Btw love both your channels! Makeup& Books! I so relate to your views on romance books! Lol your gorgeous inside& out! Yay to your videos!
oooh I totally get what you were saying about bi-language conversations :) I'm russian and obviosly know english, and you know, my english really improved sinse I started watching youtube and reading books/fanfiction(sorry not sorry lmao) me and my friend literally texted in english about a week straight and it was so awesome but my dream is to learn french. o my god what a beautiful language! I'm here from your beauty channel and when I found you I was wondering why I like your accent so much and what it is, and after I found out it was french I was like weeell no surprises here :D maybe someday I'll finally try to learn french but I kind of want to improve english before I do that.
You will love Harry Potter world in Orlando if you go!! I always recommend to go in the winter because they sell the house scarves and everyone is wearing them which is really fun!
I think you should try Carry On! I read Fangirl and liked it much more than you did but I like Carry On even more than Fangirl and it’s just so different of a setting that maybe you will like it more? But it does have a pretty prominent romance and I’m not sure if it would rub you the wrong way with how it’s set up.
I always thought that when I'd do the potter more quiz I would be sorted on Slytherin or Ravenclaw, which are the houses I most identify with, but I did the test twice and was sorted on both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, go figure! I would love to see a video where you do the sorting. Also, j'adore Alexandre Dumas et Alexandre Dumas fils aussi. Le Comte de Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books. Have you read the three musketeers already? :*
I speak french fluently and most of my friends are french so I was shocked when I heard your accent when you started speaking in french! didn t know that the canadian french pronunciation was so different from the french one
AH emily congrats!! I remember being there when your beauty channel was still at 25k and now I'm here for your book tube channel at the same milestone! I'm so happy and proud of you!!! Also I know on your beauty channel in the past you've done French and English favourites so I'd love to see a French and English wrap up! That would be so cool.
I studied French in Quebec City for a summer and when you spoke French I was instantly missing Quebec haha, alors c'est genial et je aimerais bein si tu fait les videos en francais haha
yeah exactly. the same thing with me and Montreal, I would go back like right now. I miss hearing conversations in french and in few seconds switching to english and they even didn't notice it haha. lovely experience
I just got back from Orlando on Sunday. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was amazing! I've read a couple of books by Rainbow Rowell, Eleanor & Park and Attachments. I did not like Eleanor & Park and Attachments was meh to me. I still have Fangirl and Carry On on my shelf and am debating on whether to read them or not.
Congratulations on your 27K+ subscribers! I started watching your beauty channel about 2 years ago and then heard you were doing something called BookTube. You introduced me to a whole new world! Thank you!
Being in NB, I totally get the switching between languages while talking. The Franglais is strong whenever I'm talking to someone else who is bilingual. Lol J'adore vos videos!! xoxo
Hey Emily! I love beauty and books. Plus I'm French living in the US so we have few things in common! I speak French only when I call my family on the phone or else I speak mostly English. I read in both languages but I find I finish French books faster! I also speak italian because my husband is italian and we lived there for 6 years! Do u speak English or French with your boyfriend? Anyway I love your channels❤❤
Haha! C'est toujours quelque chose de t'entendre parler français. Je suis française (mais de France, pour le coup) alors cet accent! :D C'était chouette comme vidéo :) (Yeah, I should speak to you in english, as i watch your videos to practice english too :p)
I was looking for a video like this I wanted to know more about u😂❤️and I know the struggle girl (I'm Arab ) and I had such a hard time learning English and reading improved me like crazy 💛
Please try to read Carry on by R. Rowell. I love that book. I finished ACOTAR last night and oh boy. That book has a lot of serious issues :( I just hope that second one is better as you said because the first one was just crazy. I was really disappointed. Such a mess. I would understand if is it her debut novel but after 3 books of Thone of glass series? Really?
Hi Emily - I can get Overdrive books on my Kindle but maybe it's a us thing...you should look more into this so you can get them on your Kindle too. While not all books are available - most of the newer ones are available.
SOO i wanted to listen to the Martian on audiobook! Just watched the movie last night and I loved it!! But when I looked for the audiobook, two came up? Like one that says it's the original ending and the other one says it's the re-preformed on with the new ending from 2014. Which do you recommend ?!
BookswithEmilyFox sounds great! I'll deff look up the one you're talking about. Cause when I saw your video that you said you loved to listen to it on audiobook and that it was hilarious, it made me want to listen to it sooo bad!!! Thank you!!
Yes please tell us your Harry Potter tests! The same thing happened to me, I got Gryffindor when I felt I am Ravenclaw. I did it multiple times and Ravenclaw was my majority result and then I did the patronus and I got wild boar (so embarrassing)
Do you ever get rid of books you weren't a fan of? For example by donating them to Better World Books, Value Village, Goodwill, or your local library. Or do you keep them all? What will you do when you run out of space?
Probably quiet the obvious statement, but: Canadian French sounds soo different from the French spoken in France (the last one I got in school for three years and I still can only pronounce it right when I have a text in front of me. I don't understand at all what is written). A well, luckily a lot of good books are written in languages I do understand :D
"Obviously my English isn't perfect in any way, shape or form." Excuse me, you speak English better than many native speakers. Your English is super good. You could actually be mistaken for a native speaker. You're doing so well. It's so brave of you to pick up a language and start regularly reading and making videos while using it. I'm currently learning two languages but I often slack at times. I hope to be as good at those languages as you are at English!
I think the colour organization of shelving (rainbow shelving) looks so nice but makes no sense!! I cannot convince myself to do it - it makes more sense to do it by genre or alphabetically either by title or author's name...
8:43 SURPRISE!! I can't believe our timing! Me: I feel like making videos again! You *at the same time across the globe*: I'm going to call her out on her BS :D
I took the Pottermore test thinking I'd be in Ravenclaw, but I got Slytherin. Took the test a few other times, always got Slytherin (sometimes got Gryffindor)
there are this two websites that have ebooks and a lot of them are free. They're freebooksy.com and bookbub.com My sisters uses a kindle and downloads them from there.
"Do you think in French or in English " haha I think everyone that isn't bilingual asked me a similar question (Romanian living in UK) but tbh I think our thoughts are to fast to be in a language... so none?! Both?! The idea is that we don't translate from one language to the other in our head ... like people that aren't bilingual yet might do
What's your favorite audiobook ? Peut importe français/anglais, but if in English something tha's easy to understand. Je fais beaucoup trop souvent Montréal - Québec alors ça serait une bonne opportunité pour écouter un livre. Merci :)
I don't know what to say about the house test, when i first went on Pottermore I got Ravenclaw and after they revamped the site I retook the test and now I am Gryffindor
Honestly you're one of my favourite booktubers. It's great to see a French Canadian on here!
Ooooh please do all the Pottermore sorting and tests!!!
Will do!! :D
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Ive been looking for a booktuber with the same tastes as me for yearssss. A few weeks ago I literally typed "best books" into the RUclips search bar and one of your favorites videos was the first result. I am sosososo happy I found this channel! You have the amazing suggestions, and I love all of them :)
Aw I'm so happy to hear it! I feel like my taste is a little bit all over the place but I'm glad others can relate :)
You're already on 26k! Congratulations!!
The official number right now is literally 27,000!!! :D
Bilinguals have THE BEST conversations! It's like we make up our own language, isn't it? Do you also use English verbs as if they were French, or vice-versa? My sisters and I do that with Portuguese/English and nobody can understand us when we talk! :D Haha!
Wow! You grew this channel so fast! Congrats!

Well they were paid by the word back in the day so... it made for some huge books haha
Can't wait to read them again!
BookswithEmilyFox at least dumas is super heavy on dialog so it should go fast!!

Just started Calamity by Brandon Sanderson, the third one in the series. So excited to find out what happens!
Here in newfoundland we have library overdrive!! maybe its just quebec? though i cant do it on my kindle it has to be on my tablet on the app

Oh Le comte de Monte-Cristo est parfait ! Il faut surtout lire l'intégrale !
Thank you!
please do a video on all the pottermore quizes!💛
Being in NB, I totally get the switching between languages while talking. The Franglais is strong whenever I'm talking to someone else who is bilingual. Lol J'adore vos videos!! xoxo
Hey Emily! I love beauty and books. Plus I'm French living in the US so we have few things in common! I speak French only when I call my family on the phone or else I speak mostly English. I read in both languages but I find I finish French books faster! I also speak italian because my husband is italian and we lived there for 6 years! Do u speak English or French with your boyfriend? Anyway I love your channels❤❤
Yeah my friends and I speak franglais haha. I do think in English but there are random times when I do think in French or talk to myself in French.
Haha! C'est toujours quelque chose de t'entendre parler français. Je suis française (mais de France, pour le coup) alors cet accent! :D
C'était chouette comme vidéo :)
(Yeah, I should speak to you in english, as i watch your videos to practice english too :p)
Really?
Love your videos! I end up buying a lot of books because of your recommendations! :) Please do the Harry Potter tests and film it!
You can use overdrive in Canada if you have a kobo! That's how I get all my books is through my library's Overdrive account its great :)
Hi Emily - I can get Overdrive books on my Kindle but maybe it's a us thing...you should look more into this so you can get them on your Kindle too. While not all books are available - most of the newer ones are available.
Sylvia Rodarte she said in Canada you cant
you are so awesome! 😍
I love watching thoughts on tomes also!
SOO i wanted to listen to the Martian on audiobook! Just watched the movie last night and I loved it!! But when I looked for the audiobook, two came up? Like one that says it's the original ending and the other one says it's the re-preformed on with the new ending from 2014. Which do you recommend ?!
I didn't know there was an other one but the one I'm talking about is narrated by R C Bray and they just say it's the unabridged version!
Woooooooooo first like and maybe comment? I love your personality and both your channels, congrats on the subs!!!
Wow hearing you speak french was really cool
thanks for answering my question! :)
:)
Have you ever read any books by Raymond e Feist ? I love the serpentwar saga and the riftwar saga.
"Obviously my English isn't perfect in any way, shape or form."
Excuse me, you speak English better than many native speakers. Your English is super good. You could actually be mistaken for a native speaker. You're doing so well. It's so brave of you to pick up a language and start regularly reading and making videos while using it. I'm currently learning two languages but I often slack at times. I hope to be as good at those languages as you are at English!
Where do you take your earing? They look so good!
im french canadian too and i totally feel ur struggles
It's taking me forever to read The Black Prism too.
love your channel
u know some arabic words ? oeeew 💖
i speak frensh & arabic too ...cuz clearly i'm from morocco 🙋 keep it up girl !
love u xoxo
I LOVE the Count of Monte Cristo. I'd love to hear what's lost in translation (if you're willing to read both versions).
I think the colour organization of shelving (rainbow shelving) looks so nice but makes no sense!! I cannot convince myself to do it - it makes more sense to do it by genre or alphabetically either by title or author's name...
congratulations 🎊
8:43 SURPRISE!! I can't believe our timing!
Me: I feel like making videos again!
You *at the same time across the globe*: I'm going to call her out on her BS :D
I took the Pottermore test thinking I'd be in Ravenclaw, but I got Slytherin. Took the test a few other times, always got Slytherin (sometimes got Gryffindor)
Do you know any underrated bookstores or librairies in Montreal? Love seeing a québécoise on booktube btw :)
I'm French Canadian too!
you should read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell that is the book that honestly got her noticed.
please do potter more tests!!!
there are this two websites that have ebooks and a lot of them are free. They're freebooksy.com and bookbub.com
My sisters uses a kindle and downloads them from there.
Merci :)
Congrats on 25K!! Par curiosité... T'es tu québécoise ou franco-ontarienne? 🇨🇦🤓
You introduced me to BookTube :) I had no clue it existed lol
How awesome is it though! A year later and I'm still fascinated :D
I don't know what to say about the house test, when i first went on Pottermore I got Ravenclaw and after they revamped the site I retook the test and now I am Gryffindor
The struggle of being bilingual. Hahaha. Happens to me with Spanish (my native language) & English.
Please read The Places that Scare you!
