Do you ever buy a book because it’s a cute edition? Or don’t buy one because you hate the cover?
@@BookswithEmilyFox just bought Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada, it was totally a cover buy and the only copy left soooo🫣
When a book is made into a show or movie, I NEVER buy the book edition with the actors on it. I hate those so much 😅
Oh I hate adaptation covers too!!!
I will not buy a book just for its cover and I will not buy a book if I hate its cover. That being said, I prefer buying old editions in French of Agatha Christie books so they all are from the same period, same type of cover (1970s, 1980s).
Only HP.😢
the SECOND you held up Grapes of Wrath i thought "why does it look like a contemporary romance" lol
LOL I’m glad it’s not just me! I almost didn’t pick it up because of the edition
No joke i've seen so many cartoon-ified covers that don't go with the plots lol
Yesss our queen has posted a new video.
honestly, I crashed into my bed and opened youtube hoping to find one of her video to cure my day
@@a.s.2937 Emily can cure anything. Her and her kitties
I threw my fists up in celebration when you pulled out The Oleander Sword. The last book comes out in November (I think) and I can't wait! Also, I had to read Grapes of Wrath in my sophomore year of high school and I remember liking it.
For The Godfather, I feel like it's one of those movies where the first two are genuinely great movies but dudebros are doing their best to make it a red flag.
The Grapes of Wrath cover looks like the character is posing and serving looks 😂
OMG the cover for Grapes of wrath 😂😂😂
I found A House with Good Bones a bit boring, but I loved A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking by the author! The magic system in that one was so fun, charming and creative.
The Licanius covers are some of my favorite covers to ever exist.
Steinbeck is one of my all-time favourite author, I own every book he wrote ☺️ My favourite novels of his are "The Winter of Our Discontent" and "The Wayward Bus"💖
Yes, new video!!🎉
Emily, I LOVE your channel!! I just recently discovered it and subscribed (of course!) and after watching a few videos, you're inspiring me to pick up my books and start reading again! I love to read, but feel like I hardly have the time for it any more. But after seeing your passion for your books is encouraging me to find the time to read, even if it's just a little every day. Thank you for being a great inspiration!
Mike
Omg Emily, you reading The Godfather would make a very entertaining reading vlog. Yes, it will piss you off. Despite how the women are written, I enjoyed the book and gave it 4 stars. My edition of it had an introduction by the director of the Godfather movie. He explained that the author actually based Don Corleone off of his grandmother, so it seems maybe the author did have respect for women despite how he portrayed them in his novel. I would love a reading vlog of this but don't torture yourself. I was bewildered and disgusted especially by the character Lucy Mancini...
I have that exact same edition of "the grapes of wrath" haha, currently reading it for my American lit class
Loved Grapes of Wrath
Pumpkin Spice Cafe was a cover buy for me first and foremost; the story sounded cute, but I was apprehensive about the “spice”…not Hallmark! It had a lot of fall vibes, but was kind of a dumb story and the insta lust and spice level was incessant. I liked the Cider Shop Mystery series by Julie Anne Lindsey so so so much better and the first one starts during the Christmas season! Tons of seasonal, small town vibes and a sweet, slow burn romance. Happy reading!!
I highly recommend picking up Grapes of Wrath rather than letting it sit on your shelf forever - especially if you liked his other writing. I read it this year after putting it off, and I was enchanted. It is so complex and layered, with lots of fascinating characters, interesting power dynamics, and social commentary which is disappointingly still relevant today. Also, it has chapters with no characters at all, and it works in the most beautiful way.
I never read romance... but Life's too short is really nice!
James Islington is amazing!
Have you read The Husbands by Holly Gramazio? It’s not part of a series but it’s really good. Our tastes are similar (you got me to read Piranisi and a few others I enjoyed) and I think you’d really enjoy it
Hopefully you can vlog yourself reading The Friend Zone. Curious to see what you think on it!👀
"And the mountains echoed" is my favourite Khaled Hosseini book. Hope you will enjoy it!
He does have one more really small novella "Sea prayer".
I recently read The Pumpkin Spice Cafe and gave it 3 stars! It was exactly what I wanted going into it but nothing mind blowing or super memorable. I wasn’t very attached to the characters or story but the fall vibes were there and that’s mainly what I wanted 😂 So I recommend it, if you go into it knowing it’s nothing amazing as far as writing or characters goes but it will feel like Gilmore Girls 100%!
I loved the grapes of wrath, but I have to take breaks in between Steinbeck books, they’re always very emotionally draining (not a bad thing)
Eh oui! Been refreshing to see this video 😊
man you are going to HATE the friend zone lol
Damn it lol
The female main character in Friend Zone is the super toxic one. Change isn't always progress. 😢
I feel like you would have better chances with the Godfather movie trilogy than the book.
GOD I love the sound of litter "R" from you😂❤
Thank you for reminding me that I need to continue with the fantasy series by Tasha Suri. I loved the first book and the second book was out when I did read the first one but I don't know why I didn't continue then with the series 🤔
5:30 I have read 4! Just For The Summer, The Friend Zone, Part of Your World 😂 I know the order is chaotic, LOL… one of the tropes in The FZ kept bothering me, but given that it was the first, I’ll give it a pass… you kinda do have to read the first trilogy in order 😅 I have yet to read Life’s Too Short and Yours Truly (Cari Can Read’s fave) so I’m hopeful I’ll like it…
The Godfather WILL piss you off with one side-story which concerns a woman's hoo-ha
😂 The movie doesn't have that storyline so it's better. The book is still entertaining (I like mafia drama lol) but those parts in particular are super questionable.
my thoughts exactly. Lucy Mancini, that poor woman...
The horses head in the bed freaked me out so bad I am still traumatized 40 years later😢😮❤
I’ve never read a kingfisher book, but I really want to 🥹
I really enjoyed What Moves the Dead but I was super disappointed with the second book, please do a reading vlog with it I'd love to see how you feel.
I have a feeling Steinback would not approve of that cover 😂
Oh girl, you’re going to hate the Friend Zone (and that’s okay cause so did I 😂). I liked a House with Good Bones, but it is predictable. However, since the book is super short, I didn’t mind it too much.
Khaled Hosseini is my favorite author but unfortunately he does have fery few books out. There is a short story by him called the sea prayer and then that is it. You won't regret reading and the mountains echoed, though, I think it's his best one yet (even though a thousand splendid suns will always be my absolute favorite)
I am sooo curious about the pumpkin spice cafe, I bought it but am afraid to start it haha
Kind of glad I didn’t have to read 1984 for any English class in school for enjoyment as well and that just seems so depressing I don’t know, but I did get a free e-book of it
I liked Pumpkin Spice Cafe. I thought the romance was dumb but I really enjoyed reading about this girl moving to a quaint New England town and making friends with all the locals and doing autumnal activities.
I think that’s exactly how I’ll feel haha I need more books about just that
My sister said The night we lost him was so much worse than the other one, and she liked the other one.
The only thing I remember about The Grapes of Wrath is chapter three.
For Abby Jimenez, I did not like Friend Zone but I did enjoy Life’s Too Short 😅
"I'm not a romance reader" *has recently read three romance books* 😂. I know what you mean though, I'm the same way
❤📚📚🍁
Wait, shouldn't you be finishing Oathbringer before continuing *other* fantasy series? December is very close!
🤫
Hi Emilie,
Can I ask you what bookstores you get your used books from? Thanks 😊
I recommend checking if your library has sales! Otherwise Value Village is good in Canada. The rest are local places so I can’t name them
@@BookswithEmilyFox merci 🙏🏼
Book Outlet is great if you're in Canada
@@wandering0wonderland thank you, yes, I use it regularly! I was more looking for physical locations, but I totally understand why she wouldn’t want to say too much. ☺️
I don't think that the Godfather with hitmen is your kind of book. And it has one very gross scene. But to be honest, from what I have seen about mobsters and crime bosses in documentaries, The Godfather is MILD! But famous lines come from that book "I made him an offer he couldn't refuse." If the Godfather does a favor for someone asking for revenge, then that person is going to "owe him a favor in the future." It's 1930-40s sexism with women, but I still thought both the book and the first two movies were very well written and done for the subject matter. And I have not wanted to read another type of book like this after that. But I was glad that I read it to find out what it was about.
I love the grapes of wrath but that cover man 😅 nothing to do with the book. I love steinbeck tho. I liked the godfather very much
I love Abby Jimenez, her books are amazing. I think you’ll like the third one, but not the first one bc of the children topic. But both males were incredible in these books.
Not just because of the children topic. The female character was horrible, God, I hated her so much. He was great and he deserves so much better, not such a bitch.
I too haven't watched (nor read) The Godfather 😅
I was not a fan of the ending in friendzone. I think it doesn't truly honor folks with infertility. I love Steinbeck. The Godfather was a very boring movie. It doesn't imho hold up.
I'm a girl and I loved the Godfather. However, I live in an area with heavy mafia activity in its past. So it felt like I was reading my culture a bit. Yes, there's problematic scenes with women, however the story is pretty good.
I've noticed your recent videos seem to be topping out at 720p. Is this a RUclips issue?
Really? My laptop died and it’s being repaired so I’m editing on my old one. It shouldn’t be doing that though :/
Thanks for pointing it out I’ll try and figure out what’s going on!
I went back to check and I edited and exported at 4K so I’m confused
@BookswithEmilyFox I think sometimes it takes a couple of hours after upload for all the resolutions to appear. Don't know if that's what it is
Sadly I looked at a couple other videos and it’s the same. I’m on my phone though so I’ll have to check if it’s the same on the compuyer
The the J at the beginning of Abby Jimenez is pronounced like H because it’s Spanish and in Spanish, you pronounce your J like H
I did not care for and the mountains echoed. Felt less of his usual style and more like trauma dumping but it has been a while since i read it. I also am not a fan of short stories so maybe
The actual mob did threaten Mario Puzzo not to do the Godfather as a movie
They fictionalized this incident as a movie recently a couple years ago I think
Have you read "Every One is Watching?"
As a spanish speaker, you ate that "Giménez" queen
Thank you 🙌😭
That is a weird cover for The Grapes of Wrath. It is not a fun book set in the Great Depression. I liked East of Eden much better.
I want to hear your reaction to the end of Grapes of Wrath 😂 (I loved the book, but haven’t read since high school and loved East of Eden twice as much!)
Also, there is a character “Rose of Sharon” and my teacher said the pronunciation is “Rosasharn” so I get that stuck in my head when someone mentions the book. Same with St. John/ “Sinjin” in Jane Eyre.
I'm guessing she won't be happy with the ending
I have a feeling you're not going to like the friendzone because of how a certain topic was handled in it 😂 I DNFed life's too short because i had a lot of issues with it. The second one which is the happily ever playlist is the best in my opinion but still not as good as her newer work
I completely agree with this review. The Happy Ever After Playlist was my favorite as well and they're making it into a movie, I think? Or the rights have been bought.
I also DNFed Life's Too Short. Maaaany many issues.
@@sakii_here Really? I think I actually hated that book. I read Just for the summer earlier this year and wanted to try some of her other books. After that one though I no longer have any desire to do that. Seems like that was the right call for me.
Maybe I'll like her newer work and I'm willing to try whatever she comes out with next.
@@Anita-nw5ts I should have mentioned it was my favorite out of the older 3. Out of all of her works I read, Just for the Summer is tied with Part of Your World ^^.
Just goes to show how different our tastes are 😁😆.
What's wrong with The Wolf of Wallstreet? That's a great movie. A red flag is saying your favorite movie is The Avengers or The Notebook 🥴
