- In this episode of my series “Walks in the New Forest”, I take a 4.5 mile Autumnal walk from the Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary located to the West of Lyndhurst. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car (for free) at the Forestry England car park at Bolderwood and made my way to check out the Deer Viewing Platform - which is not far from the car Park itself.
My route took me through the Bolderwood Grounds, past the Radnor Stone to Bratley Water at which point I headed East to join up with the Bolderwood Ornamental Drive.
I then headed South to explore Mark Ash Wood and Barrow Moor before returning to my car.
The Autumnal colours were magnificent in the woodland and I even came across some pigs happily eating acorns (I was filming during the Pannage season in the New Forest).

I use a GOPRO HERO 7, 8 or 10 Black Action Camera (sometimes with a Gimbal) & a Rode microphone (either a “Shotgun” or a Rode Wireless Go) together with a Canon Powershot SX530 HS.
Another beautiful Autumn walk. Thank you
Some of the most beautiful scenes of all your many walks. I love this area within the Forest. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Paul. The Autumnal colours were quite magical that day!
No pub today ? 😁 Ornamental Drive has to be one of the nicest places to visit in the New Forest
Sadly no ... but we didn't mind! As you say, it is such a beautiful part of the Forest.
Lovely walk Dave. When l think of the New Forest l think of camping with the Scouts.
Thank you Michael. It is a beautiful area for sure!
Good afternoon Dave beautiful video so very enjoyable to watch so very interesting.
Thank you Craig. :)
I think you must of hired those pigs Dave, just for the video! I've never seen pigs look so clean, must've been their first day out. Also, no traffic on the ornamental drive? Clever editing methinks, normally it's like the M25. Lovely area to walk though, I must make an effort to return in the spring.
Those pigs were quite lovely weren't they. Yes, I had to wait for cars to go by on a few occasions! Indeed there were a fair number of photographers out in the woods that day, recording those Autumnal colours.
Although you filmed in the most beautiful countryside at the end of November I assume Dave that you had prepared this to go out on RUclips in January so we are witnessing a "Dry" January! I'll propose a toast to you Sir. A nice glass of Champagne. I don't mind if I do! Cheers Logan...
Cheers to you as well Martin .... indeed I am currently enjoying a glass of "19 Crimes" (a delightful red wine from South Eastern Australia) as I type!
Good man! Being in France I'm not into Australian wines but will check that one out. Funnily enough I was on Face Time this morning with my cousin and her daughter and son in law are wine growers in Castleford north of Melbourne.@@DaveFord
Happy New Year to you Dave and thanks for all your hard work. The autumnal colours in this walk around Bolderwood were spectacular in the extreme.
Thank you Mark. Happy New Year to you as well! Autumn was quite late in coming to the New Forest this year - but it was worth the wait!
Dave really enjoyed this !! Great channel!! Subscribed !!Have a great week ahead 👍
Thank you & indeed welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching.
Lovely video, Autumn being my wife's favourite time of year. Do you remember what time of day you started this walk?
Thank you. We started fairly early in the morning - it was late November & the sun was still quite low during the opening scenes.
Always impressed by your knowledge of the New Forest and the research that you do.
Thank you Angela. :)
Dave lovely to see bolder wood again reminds me of walks sheila and I used to go on. Yes beautiful colours! Appreciate your videos. God bless you
Thank you Ralph.
Thanks Dave. I know that area quite well. It is a lovely place, with the many streams running through it. Have also stood and watched the deer from the viewing platform, although you have to be lucky to see them. That was a particularly nice day to see the autumn colours.
Thanks Lionel. The weather was just about perfect to bring out those Autumn colours.
I was here last week with my radio - a lovely locaiton, no walking for me but i loved the picnic tables. Thanks for sharing a great walk, thank you so much!
Thank you. It is a lovely part of the New Forest for sure. :)
That was sooo enjoyable! Logan is a joy and thanks for the information.
So beautiful and a feast for the senses.😊
Thankyou Susan. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Glorious colours Dave ! Thanks once again !
Autumn was very late in coming to the New Forest this year - but it was worth the wait!
Wonderful as can be the woods is stunning and the views with the colours
Thank you Keith. The New Forest can look quite amazing in the Autumn.
lovely forest walk autumn colours so beautiful
Thank you Cath. Autumn can sometimes bring out the best of the New Forest in terms of colour.
Really enjoyed this video, Dave. Autumn colours makethe occasion. But I thought Logan looked a little subdued. Perhaps he just didn't like the cold?
Thank you Bernie. Logan was fine & has no problem with the cold. He is an experienced obedience dog (having competed at Crufts in an obedience final) & having done nearly 250 "walk videos" with me, he is used to "switching off" from time to time during the actual filming. There were restrictions regarding dogs having to be kept on lead in the Bolderwood Grounds (so he couldn't be let "off lead" there) but he certainly enjoyed Mark Ash Wood ..... particularly jumping over the fallen tree!
@@DaveFord good to hear that Dave. Not just a talented film maker, but a talented dog, too. I appreciate the hard work that goes into your videos, which I know goes way beyond just the filming. Full respect.
Dave it looks so beautiful and the colors are making me miss fall as the weather here is getting colder . Hope you and Logan stay warm. Thank you for showing us such a pretty area . Take care the both of you! See you again soon☀️
Thank you Melissa. Logan is currently going out on his walks with his "extra thick" dog coat on!
@@DaveFord wonderful Dave . He is so beautiful . Take good care and I hope your winter there isn’t to bad this year.
What a wonderful woodland walk with great autumnal colours. Great posing by Logan by the stone, too! Love the Logan's leap sound effect but now we need an equivalent one for you negotiating any obstacles!!
Thanks Jean. If only I had the athletic ability of my faithful hound!
Great video. I'm a fan of Yours.
Thank you and indeed thanks for watching. :)
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you David.
Really enjoyed this video ,beautiful colours
Have you been th Hatchets pond ?
Thank you. Yes, Logan & I filmed a video walk that included Hatchets Pond a few years ago. We must go back and do another walk around that area soon.
@@DaveFord aww lovely ,love the new forest ,do you ever come over to the Isle of wight ?
@@Kate-iz8rp We have not been to the Isle of Wight but a few people have asked now so Logan & I have it on our radar - there is certainly plenty to explore there!
@DaveFord aww will be lovely to see you both over here
