  • Is the Leica M-P 240 Still Great in 2021? You bet it is. This camera can take a beating and keep on clicking. The battery life, Sapphire glass, larger 2gig buffer and frame line selector are great improvements over the original M240. I go through a shooting session with this camera which I have owned for six years and still enjoy the shooting experience. I love the simple menu system and the rangefinder manual focusing such a joy to use. these cameras are still not inexpensive but for around $2500-$3000 used you can pick one up. If you can find one. Yes very expensive still.

    I just bought a brand new M-P 240 for 4,000 USD/ 3.350 EUR. It was a non-seller in the Leica Store. It's better than my M240 due to the larger buffer. That's why I bought the M-P240. The 240 are a bit faster to handle than the M10. Next important job for my two Ms and my Q is the royal visit by our Queen in our town on Sunday... I like your no nonsense videos. Keep on rolling, Kirk.

    Great video Kirk! I use an M-P 240 body and an M-10 body interchangeably, and I really feel there is no practical downside to using the 240 vs. the M-10. As you’ve shown, it’s still a great option in 2021!

    Hi Kirk, I was reading the description of the video and when it said that it can take a beating and keep on clicking I thought it was going to be a Timex review (LOL). Great shots by the way, I don't know if it’s my imagination, but it looks to me like the RAW shots converted to B&W have more detail than the B&W jpegs sooc. Stay safe.

    Great video and photo compositions! After shooting for many years Leica M film only, I purchased last year my first digital M - a mint Leica M-E 240 which also has the 2 GB buffer size. It doesn't have the gorilla glass (I am simply using a protective LCD cover instead) and frame lines cannot be changed manually. But everything else is the same - love the color gamut of this sensor and agree that the B&W in camera JPGs are already very good, but I also shoot in RAW to get a bit more details in the shadows via PP. Nevertheless, for B&W I still prefer shooting B&W film for personal preference. The M 240 camera series is currently the best quality for the price deal in digital Ms out there. If no high ISO shooting is needed, the M 240 is all I need.

      Hi Martin - I shot film Leica for so long and then not for a very long time. I had my M3 CLA'd and my M5 is being worked on right now. I love those two cameras. Shooting film with them is an experience and I will always do some. The M-P is a wonderful camera although I wish it did not have movie ability built in because I have no use for it with manual focus. I will never sell the MP, thought about it but decided against it. When I get the M5 back I'll do some more B&W and some Portra. Love converting my Raw files from the MP with Silver Efex.

      @@KirkWilliamsonphotography Thank you Kirk. I'm fairly new to photography. Do you use a UV filter to protect your lens, or an ND filter? I have a Voigtlander 75mm F 1.5 lens to pair with the M240 and am reading I should use an ND outside if shooting wide open. Any tips? Thanks!

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  2 года назад +1

      John I just use a UV on my Leica 50 Summilux. I will go out from time to time with 3 stop ND. But if you are going between inside and out like traveling then best to stay with a UV. I tend to decide before I go out if I’m going to look for things to shoot wide open. Personal choice. I use B+W ND filters which are very color neutral.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  2 года назад

      Stan Tamarkin tried to talk me into the Elmarit a little less money at the time. Now with the price increase I’m sure it’s more. The Elmarit is much larger. The Super Elmar is very small. I also have an old 21 3.5 Super Angulon from the 60’s made by Schneider. So the 21 SE was meant to replace it.

    Hi Kirk, I enjoyed seeing your photos from your Leica camera. I was just wondering if you ever enter photo contests in recent times? Also, I'm a bit confused as you have said as a photo journalist you used Canon camera(s). Which camera did you use first, Canon of Leica?

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  3 года назад

      Hi Fairstamp, no I usually don’t enter contests. For the most part judging of contests is a subjective exercise. I do enter my work locally at the Rockport Art Association for exhibition which is all I really care about. I started my career with Leica which included my M3 and M5. I needed longer lenses so I also used a Leica SL mot to shoot sports with. This all lasted for about 2 years until I switched over to Canon for everything.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

      The M-P 240 files are a little warm and need to be cooled down a bit. For B&W I use Silver Efex Pro 2 and the High Structure pre set. This can sometimes overdo things a bit. The jpg files are very nice

    Tye LEICA MP is the most and sophisticated M camera ever made, but also, made out of the best materials in the industry, and finally: it bridges the big gap between the M AND R system with CMOS Sensor.
