@@DespaceMan The Baja races have fatalities every year. Last year most notable was a driver going over a cliff. The Baja races are the most dangerous races in North America, for both driver and spectators, there are wavers to be signed for those spectating in the regulated spots, and then you got those spectating along the routes in the unregulated areas. It is an insane set of races.

Personally I never feel sorry for people who willingly do dumb things like that, I feel sorry for the drivers who have to keep up with this shit because it just adds more pressure to the race, and not in a good way.

Watch any of the films from the last 20-30 years (since the beginning of auto racing actually!) of WRC racing. The crowds line the edge of the road (mostly dirt) and if those behind the front line can't see enough, they just push the ones up front out onto the course so they can see. That's not to say it's acceptable but without banning spectators, no one had found a solution. If you remember the "Killer Bees," that was what closed that class of WRC Rally cars. They were so fast that those in the crowd getting pushed into the roadway, couldn't react quickly enough and too many were killed. It's not a new problem.

Years ago, I wrote to Sal Fish about creating a safety committee for Score, and he agreed that something should be done. We had some back and forth on the subject, but I could see that his attention was divided in a dozen ways, and ultimately, nothing happened. The potential for a mass casualty event in this race is enormous.
Once it happens, it will be international news. Getting insurance for ANY event will be difficult after that. It could ruin off road racing forever. Every year, I hope for the best. Every year, a spectator or two is injured or killed. It flies under the radar. Once a truck rolls through a crowd of spectators, the focus of the international media will expose every deficiency possible. The untamed race will be relegated to a short track, and Baja racing will be dead forever.

@@Xnetteom A TON of water and mud. The town did fine. Most of the campos and homes along the beach had erosion. I only heard of one property actually getting damaged from an arroyo that undermined them. Sections of the highway and the new bridges got beat up, but most of it is back in service now. The Baja 1000 came through two weeks ago. That was fun.

I’m getting flashbacks from group b, those spectators need step back so the driver doesn’t have to worry about killing somebody

They pre-run the course and make notes, which the navigator communicates during the race.

I was trying to count how many NPCs there were then I realized every single person standing beside the race course was an NPC because no real person is that stupid to risk their lives just to watch a truck go by really fast

it amazes me how baja trucks are the most unstable stable race(trucks) out there, they are stable but very unstable, they constantly want to slide but that is at moments where other trucks with good but not trophy truck type suspention just crash out 90% of the time

Is riding on the studder at 60 worth all the banging and poping on the motor instead of going 58 with the limiter on to catch if you go 60? Not a knock, just food for thought. We live in a age of everything we see is against a limiter a lot, but many engine builders claim they can see more wear on rings, cylinder walls and valvetrain on motors that are on a lot of limiter. Washing the cylinder down is wear the entire time its bangin' i.e.‐your running the cylinders out of oil which kills crosshatch which kills the ability for the cylinder to stay oiled at all points later.
