Last month was Chants of Sennar for me. Loved it. This month, I'm playing Recore. Also like it very much.

The games I have been playing recently include Nayuta Boundless Tails and Fate/Samurai Remnant (which is a fantastic game). Also, went back to Atelier Marie and enjoyed it a lot more the second time around. I think Star Ocean 2R is next on my schedule.

I spent a lot of September wrapped up in the Teal Mask DLC expansion for Pokemon Scarlet, which I thoroughly enjoyed and am very eager for part two, Indigo Disk. I also spent a good amount of time with Breath of Fire III and am caught up to where my childhood save file was before my old disc stopped working back then! I'm excited to get to areas I've never seen before in the game!
I also got a free month of Game Pass on Xbox with a hard drive I bought on clearance, and I dipped my toes into Sea of Stars and Chained Echoes, two indie RPGs I've been interested in, and both were really enjoyable!
My plans for November are more Breath of Fire III, of course, and Star Ocean The Second Story R, a remake of one of my favorite PSone RPGs that comes out on November 2nd! I would also love to get Persona 5 Tactica and Mario RPG, but I'll have to see how money goes, what with the holidays coming up xD

I played and finished Harvestella this month. (actually finished yesterday in fact) I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I'm sure it's been mentioned a lot, but Harvestella isn't really a farming/life sim, it's a JRPG with farming elements. That's probably why I enjoyed it more than Rune Factory.
For me, the story and music were the strongest points of the game. The story started slow, but started getting really good for me around the chapter 4 mark. It honestly reminded me a lot of Xenoblade 2 at certain points. The music, especially the boss battle themes, were phenomenal the entire game.
I think the weakest part is the gameplay. Not that it's bad, but the best words to describe it are "good enough", or "fine". The dungeon gameplay is sort of similar to a dungeon crawler like Etrian Odyssey, except it's action instead of turn based, and the difficulty is way, way easier than Etrian Odyssey. Both the farming and combat feel very simplified/streamlined. For farming, I was fine with that since it's not a farming sim primarily. For the dungeon gameplay, I felt like it could have had more depth. The "puzzles" in the dungeons could have been a little harder; the endgame puzzles should have been midgame ones, and they should have had harder endgame puzzles. I felt like the combat was essentially just "pick the jobs with elements that most of the enemies are weak to", and nothing else mattered too much for most of the main game. The FEARs (minibosses like FOEs in Etrian Odyssey, or sort of like the level 90 enemies in level 10 areas in Xenoblade) were also too easy to avoid. The story boss battles were a highlight of the game, and all of them were very fun.
Overall, I think it's worth playing through for the story and music.

You're the second person to mention Harvestella in this comment section haha I didn't vibe with it when I tried the demo, perhaps because of the slow story, but it's nice to hear it gets better. Thinking it might be worth giving a properly shot someday (especially on sale of something :3)!
Glad to hear you mostly enjoyed it, it sounds imperfect but maybe fun enough for someday :))

    For september I played:
-Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja War
-Hi Fi Rush(2nd playthrough after it's release on late January)
-Eternights (really love this Indie Action RPG inspired by Persona)
    -Lies of P
As for October, all I did was touching some short games from my backlog before the release of CRYMACHINA:
    -Evil God Korone
    -Hololive ERROR
    -Gal*Gun Double Peace

Ugh. I'm not complaining exactly (JRPG Jungle is one of my favorite channels), it's just that focusing on games that aren't (easily) available to Western audiences (Resleriana and BR:S) means I'm watching merely out of curiosity instead of being able to use the information to make a purchasing/playing decision. Or maybe I'm just jealous that our esteemed narrator is in Japan and able to play these games.
Even though Resleriana is gacha, it still seems very interesting. I'd love to give it a shot. BR:S also looks interesting, but the inclusion of a male protagonist seems contrary to BR's world (anime and other games).
Nevertheless, maybe this video will somehow spur pressure to bring either or both of those games West. I'd look forward to it.
    Thanks for the great video!

Understand completely and it’s something I realised as I was editing >< Just how it worked out this month with my interests last month and what Gust (who I clearly like a lot) had going on, it shouldn’t be like that every time hopefully! (It’s easier for me to play things in English, especially if I want to talk about them :3)
Thank you for being open minded and watching the parts about them anyway :) always appreciate the honesty!

@JRPGJungle No worries. The games you cover on your channel are serendipitous favorites of mine, even the Japanese-only ones. I guess it's a small matter of frustration they're not available in the West. Certainly not your fault. On the bright side, perhaps your coverage is an early sneak peak. Thanks for your continued effort!

September was mostly dedicated to Nayuta (3 play throughs for platinum). And a little bit of Rhapsody to refresh my memory for the sequels. For October I’m playing Monochrome Mobius and planning to play Crymachina after that.

It's okay, you have 6-8 months to catch up before Daybreak. I'm sure you can manage somehow! I would judge you have maybe a week or two of Azure left, so that's not too bad to squeeze in somewhere. But Reverie, well that can be nearly as long as CS4 if you want to see everything, so it will take some doing.
EDIT: Also I gotta say, the postgame of Nayuta is kind of the true ending. It would have been worth doing. Don't make the same mistake with Reverie later!

Got the platinum for FF16 and finished my Japanese playthrough. While the Japanese dialogue is superior in some key moments, the English script is definitely the better one overall. It was funny seeing how additional lines were added for the English localization in spots where the Japanese would just repeat the last thing that was said by the character. Hopefully the DLC doesn't disappoint.
Speaking of disappointments, I started playing Star Ocean 5 thanks to PS+ Extra and dropped it so fast... and now I'm gonna see how long I can last with SO6. Played Crymachina's JP demo a while back, and it was a letdown in every possible way. Platinumed 13 Sentinels as well, but wasn't expecting a standard time travel story filled with cheap anime tropes after all the praise I saw it get. Clearly, it's best not to go into games completely blind. That said, the 2.5D visuals were great and it did handle its ensemble cast and themes well enough. Hilarious that the English localization did everything in their power to avoid mentioning H.G. Wells' name though.
Finally finished Nier Replicant as well. Felt like it got worse with each route honestly and the final ending seemed like it was made for fanservice more than anything else, but I know Yoko Taro loves connecting his worlds, so it is what it is. It was decent overall, but Automata's definitely the better game overall and I look forward to replaying that one day.
As for Honkai Star Rail, it runs pretty much perfectly on PS5 at 4K 60 fps. Never turn off the VSync though because the frame rate and screen tearing is a nightmare. That said, I swear... I wouldn't be playing this game if it wasn't for Kafka and Jingliu. Lol.

I completed Trails in the Sky 1 and 2. I'm in the middle of 3rd right now. I'm really looking forward to playing the Crossbell arc and the Cold Steel games. I've also been playing Star Rail on the side. After I finish 3rd, I'm going to thinking of playing Fate/Samurai Remnant or Star Ocean, so I burnout from playing Trails. Though I need to catch up with the Fontaine storyline in Genshin. Thank you for the video and I really am curious about the mobile Atelier game, though I am a little disappointed that it is a mobile game (I just don't have the space on my phone or time to play all these mobile games.) Still here's hoping it is released in English.

I'll definitely get to Crymachina, eventually... From the demo it seems very beautiful. I actually wasn't expecting the high quality character models. But, its certainly not for everyone. The dialogue is quite heavy (not a problem for me personally though). Also, stepping away from a gacha game can be difficult but it's important to pay attention on time investment/ enjoyment. This is where unfortunately I must say... Honkai Star Rail is great. You should definitely give it a try 😂

T.b.h. I'm a little worried about Crymachina's gameplay. It looks like they didn't improve on Crystar's weak points (shallow combat, generic level design, repetitive gameplay loop) and just put more emphasis on it's strong points (story & character design)

That's a shame you're not that much into Blue reflection mobile. But sometimes it's great to loose interest in some time consuming games.
I finally finished xenoblade 3 which was awesome !
Now i'm on star rails with 2 account, one PC and the other ps5.
I'm getting a bit tired of it, so i'm thinking on which account i'll stick to.
I want to buy and play silent hope so bad! But i resist since i also have Harvestella started.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  11 месяцев назад +1

Yeah, I need to work out if the Blue Reflection thing is losing interest, comparing it to Resleriana or the content itself (the Japanese could also be a factor), I wanna sit down with it properly and work it out sometime :3 I love the series, so ideally I’d like it to be good! I do think Resleriana is a step up in overall smartphone game quality though; I wonder if they brought any points from Sun over as bullet points to help make Resleriana as good as it is :3
Congrats on finishing XC3! Aah so good :) hope you enjoy Harvestella (let me know if you like it! I didn’t love it so much in the demo, but you never know, it might be cheap and worth trying someday haha)

I don't know any of the games you mentioned lol except Honkai Star Rail. As far as that game goes, I don't recommend it unless you have a LOT of time and even more patience. That game has an unacceptable amount of cutscenes and lengthy dialogue scrolls that they mandate. No skip option. They have an auto-dialogue function but it may as well not exist because it stops every time there's a pointless dialogue option, which is every single cutscene. Real shame, too. The game is otherwise pretty enjoyable. But the excessive, lengthy, and mandatory cutscenes are just brutal to get through. Even mashing the 'x' button through dialogue scrolls still regularly takes MINUTES per cutscene.

The games I've been playing have been very sparse. My mom had a hip replacement surgery on the 19th so I've had to walk over to my mother's house(only 4 blocks away) to do things like laundry, feed the cat and give it water, clean its shitbox, etc. Mostly it's just been idle games like trying to get Ragnarok Clicker up to 100%, I picked Dream of Desires back up again and now I am at the second to last chapter towards the first ending. I will have to look at my account since I'm at work and this is off the top of my head

alright, I'm home now so I can actually type shit out not on my phone and while I'm looking at my backloggery/Steam accounts.
According to Backloggery, I finished 100%ing Town of Salem on September 2nd, so I think that technically still counts. Still helping the group that helped me cheese them by filling the rest of the lobby.
I'm not sure when I finished it, since I forget to add it to my Backloggery at the time, but I 100%ed New Super Lucky's Tale before I played the next one, I already told you about it.
On September 15th I finished 100%ing Kao the Kangeroo, which is still a 3d platformer(I had recently bought a humble bundle of 3d platformers), but I'd honestly put it closer to something like Crash Bandicoot rather than Spyro or Super Mario 64. I haven't played Crash Bandicoot though. In terms of collectibles, there's the letters K, A, and O, crystals(which don't really do anything to my knowledge?), heart pieces that collecting 4 increases your max health, and runes which are the game's way of gating progression since to visit each level, you need to have a certain number of total runes.
On September 20th I finished 100%ing Cat Quest 2. It has co-op where as the first didn't. So instead of just playing as a cat, you play as a cat AND a dog, with alot of cat and dog puns.
On September 28th, I finished 100%ing Hell Pie, which surprise surprise, is a 3d platformer. Its pretty gruesome. The basic plot of the game is satan has you go tell the chef that he needs to bake a pie for satan's birthday, so you go from level to level to gather disgusting ingredients like ticks, vomit, a tampon, etc. One of the most gruesome examples I could give is that in order to unlock new horn abilities, you have to offer the horns of baby unicorns(aka "unilambs") and then you have to tear the horn off of each one while it agonizes in pain. One thing I noticed is that the majority of abilities you unlock make things easier, as opposed to unlocking new options. Horn ability to run fast, horn ability to glide, horn ability to ram stuff(which for the collectibles that require you to ram stuff will typically have a grenade close by you can throw at it if you don't have the ram ability). I didn't like the amount of necessary backtracking though.
Other than that, my times get messy. Don't know when I beat Timespinner because my save got corrupted, so I had to end early before I could get all the achievements I wanted. Don't remember when I beat DuckTales since I didn't record when I beat it. Don't know when I started playing Dream of Desires since I don't typically record my start date. I started playing Vampire Survivors again, which again, I don't know when.

Once again, you’ve mentioned many interesting things I’ve never heard of haha Hell’s Pie one is particularly interesting to me; I’ve been playing Resleriana and getting that free pie everyone, imagine it was full of hell “delicacies” lol
Super well done, despite everything going on :) hope you’re getting some gaming/you time in this month too! 👍🏻
