I am a white man from America, who fell in Love with the Middle East back in 2007, I first heard an Oud when I was in Egypt. It spoke to me, I know some of you have no Idea what I am talking about, but it's true. When I was in Jordan the call to Prayer again spoke to me, and again in Jerusalem. Something within me stirred, I crave this type of music, I see myself in the oasis under the palm trees, the stars as bright as the cities. I hate being hated because of where I was born, my spirit is not at rest in the environment I live in, and I desire to go to the wilderness, where the world loses it's strength, and my inner soul is revived, refreshed, and born again

Always saw it similar except never worded it like this. But this comment describes best what I've tried describing for years. Piano can sound like distant water drops in a tunnel, cave with it's echoes while the oud can be a very tense and dramatic weeping sound.

The "scales" used in Western Music are called "roads" in Middle Eastern Music. They are like snippets of melodies and to Western Music lover's ears, they mostly sound like what we could call the "Minor Key", though there are also some roads which sound like the Major Key. In some Turkish Hospitals, there are doctors who go to a patient's bedside and play the oud and the bamboo flute called Ney. There are certain roads which they believe are healing. I personally find much comfort in Middle Eastern Music. May your healing journey be filled with beautiful music! 🌹🌺🌻🌼💐🌼🌻🌺🌹

I learned about the existence of the OUD in a old Arabic legend, it was a princess who played very beautiful the oud at night under the moon's light ✨️ crying for a Love that couldn't be.....eversince I was always intrigued by the melody of this instrument. I have the say that I LOVE IT ...I'm considering learning to play this and picture myself playing in the Alahambra ♥️

The key to that is to relax with, and into, whatever instrument you are playing. Don't so much fret about technique, (That will come) but get the sounds you want to hear out of it. Play what you feel, and others will feel it in the music you make. You have it within you, now let it out of you.

Sure, some basics are required, in both areas of endeavor, but after you've gotten those down, as I am sure "Old Blues" has, much of what happens comes from letting things flow.

Here is the English, compliments of Google Translate: The Oud (also spelled 'Ud) is one of the most popular instruments in Arabic music. Its name means "a thin strip of wood" in Arabic and this refers to the strips of wood used to make the pear-shaped body of the instrument. The neck of the oud is short in comparison to its body and has no fret. This allows the oud to produce good intonation and makes it an ideal instrument for playing Arabic maqams.
The oud usually has five pairs of strings tuned in unison plus one string lower than the others and undoubled. Some ouds have an extra pair of strings. The most common tuning is, from the lowest to the highest: Do, Fa, La, Ré, Sol, Do, which makes all the intervals (apart from the interval from Fa to La) fourths. The strings were historically made of animal gut and were plucked using a plectrum called a richa (the Arabic word for 'feather'). Modern strings are made of steel wound over nylon and modern rishas are made of plastic, tortoise shell, animal horn or even bamboo.
The oud has a warm timbre as well as a wide range (about three octaves). The muscian can interpret the melody as well as the rhythm because it is percussive. This makes it the ideal instrument to accompany a singer. It is also the favorite instrument of composers to write new melodies. Oud taqasim are also very popular in concerts as well as in recordings.

The base note of a fragrance construction is the heavy long lasting notes of a Attar, Parfum, Eau De Parfum, Eau De Toilet, Cologne, After Shave and Eau freache. I placed them in order of strength in which Attar is the strongest to the weakest ecetra.†
