Should You Learn Natal Astrology or Horary First?

In this video I answer a common question that I get, which is whether newer students of astrology should learn natal astrology or horary astrology first?
The quick answer to this question is that I would recommend learning and becoming competent in natal astrology first and then move on to horary astrology later, because most of the techniques of western astrology were originally developed within the context of natal astrology.
Therefore, you can develop a better understanding of certain techniques and concepts such as the houses by first learning them within the context of their original application.

I just started learning horary first. The reason why is I’m trying to predict the outcomes of sporting events. So I’m reading John Frawley The Horary Textbook and his Sports Astrology book. Do you still think it would be useful for me to learn natal? Its just the amount of learning time would double and its already so much.

If you studied horary first, it would be also ok to study natal. Studying natal means you just have to learn how to interpret the chart in the new way to explain human characteristics instead of answering questions. The good side is that you already remember the meaning of houses and signs and maybe some planets. So it won't be too difficult to learn.
