I was stationed aboard the USS Constellation at the time of this concert. We got to watch them for several days while they practiced. The show was great. Two stages and continuous music.
i was on the watch when he came aboard!! he said what a BIG BOAT!! Captain Bull replied ITS A SHIP !! lol the ships crew only. locals coundnt get on
Ur so lucky. I'm 35 but grew up on hank. Still wish I cld see him live!
Wow I joined the army the next year that would’ve been epic thanks for sharing
@@walterquick8649 Captain bull was probably scared of hank! The sheer fact that Hank was sober enough to come and put the show on during that period of his life is amazing!
awesome
greatest musician that ever lived, damn bocephus was 2 good in his prime...
wild cowboy He's as strong as ever.Saw him at Mo.State Fair a week ago.

Greatest guitar player...wow you really gotta listen 2 some music bubba
In 1984 my uncle and I were stationed on the same ship together in Mayport Fl., we tapped this concert on a vcr and watched it over and over. I don't know how many gallons of Jim Beam we drank watching it, but it probably would float the Constellation!
Hank Jr and The Bama Band on The Constellation?
This is how we do it in Dixie!
Bocephus gets it done.
11:40 - 12:40 is some of the best blues country you will ever hear. Pure solid gold. You can tell that man has always missed his father.
I agree
Best part of the video! I go back and watch this clip all the time you can really feel his pain
I had a buddy that was on that ship that night, miss you DAVE, wherever you are
I remember watching it on Showtime..when he does a country boy can survive..and put in the words "..with my U.S. Colt .45" I got a chill I still remember!
thanks for sharing. I saw him this year, 1984, Man of Steel tour, I was 10 yo, in Alabama, still remember like it was yesterday
The Ride preview at 11:40 , transition into Man of Steel. 😵💫
One of greatest Hank Jr. live performances I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing!
That man has more talent in his little finger than most people have in their bodies
I was friends with Lamar morris, hanks longtime lead player and band leader. Lamar said Hank was the most talented man and biggest asshole he had ever seen.
Yes Lord he won that Level qour my hero Jeff Moose Moore
I was stationed on the Constellation when this concert was done. Brings back lots of memories.
I was there also.
God Bless America!!!

There’s never gonna be another Hank Jr.
Bocepus amazing on the piano, I love to here him talk about all the people in his life that taught him something in this music, they were great but Bocephus is pure amazing not that he didn't work hard growing up he did, he paid his dues. God Bless Bocephus his family & his beautiful wife Mary Jane 11-11-21 His music is still on top...
At this time Hank had hit a total different level. He had just put nine albums on the charts at the same time has never been done before or since and they wouldn't even nominate Hank for entertainer of the year!
It was a shame he outsold ever artist that won any type of award back in the 80s it's political
@@jackiecreasey8378Very smart and accurate comment my friend. Greetings from muscle shoals Alabama
Hank, Jr. has always been a superb talent, no doubt!!! So glad he was finally able to move away from the shadow of Sr., just far enough to find his own niche and sound, and capitalize on it, but never too far to forget what a great composer and singer his father was!!!! I went to one of his shows in 1981 at The Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas. I was a Sr. in H.S., but remember how blown away i was with his musicianship, playing every instrument on the stage!!! Gave me the inspiration to play music myself, working in bands and doing solo gigs over the last 35 years!!! Rock on Bocephus and Thanks!!!!
❤😂❤❤❤❤❤
Hank Williams rocks , ohh my goodness, smoke on the guitar , plays awesome licks awesome chicken picking then seat on the piano and plays it like an extension of his body .... Hank Williams Jr. is legendary, so talented so natural .... amazing musician and personality , legendary for sure !
American legend the greatest of all..Hank
The piano part is epic
1984 was such a great year for Country and Rock.
Bocephus was out front dong his thing and millions of us have never been the same. I just love the guy.
Love ALL 3 Hanks, Jr is my favorite!!!
Geez. What an icon 👏
I remember going to see these guys in concert. I even saw Merle, and he sang a song or two.
It was a great concert. All those musicians on stage were also there. Like that dude playing fiddle. I remember all that from back in the day. Wow! A day in the lives of all the people there in concert at that precise moment in time. Incredible. Life.
Seen Hank live a couple times, he can play anything!!! He let the band take a break and Hank stayed and played for an hour before the band returned, AWESOME show!!!
From a bygone era. I miss this time.
Me too :(
♥️
Musical Genius Hank JR can play 17 different instruments what great memories I've been to 19 concerts every time was awesome. My dad took me to my first concert in 83 and I think of my dad every time I hear Hank and Waylon.
Awesome 👍
hello how are you doing, how long have you been a fan of mine?
Love ya Hank!
My dad used to have this on VHS years ago. He used to look and sound so much like Hank.
Hank is on top here. You can just feel it.
my husband served on the connie and was at this concert and you can actually see him in the crowd, had a great time!
Well the eighties were awesome Hank Williams Jr's one of the awesomest singers that came out of the bunch and as he said it's been some rocky roads for him
Hank is the Best!
Now that was a show!!! BEAUTIFUL job!! This was right before I went into the Navy, but that would have been so great to see this live!!
I slap wore out one VHS tape of this show!
My Fav. was .. If you don't like hank williams / to the sounds of ghost riders in the sky ! GREATNESS !
Jesus Lord have mercy I consider this the greatest musical performance in the history of the USA 🇺🇸
This man loves his country tho its going to shit
I remember this like it was yesterday. Time sure does fly. I used to think that was something my mom said but it's true. But God has given us all a blessing we can build or we can look at this like it was yesterday. I pray this finds you well Hank and your life is going well. May God continue to bless you. My only advice I can give you best to keep going, I have a feeling you'll have no problem with that. God's blessings all with my friend❤
A fckn patriot and Southern Rebel
The things this man has done good or bad he's still great
Seen him in Fayetteville NC one time 80's as last set played then band went off they came back encore once then twice then Bocephus just pulled up a chair kept singin with a bottle next to him on the floor. I bet an hour went by before they could come back play one more with him and get him to come on off stage.
I remember this show! I taped it on our VCR. (LOL! VCR's! Anybody here remember those? Boy, those were the days, weren't they?). I was just a young, teenage girl back in the 80's, and I love country music. This show had so many greats - Mel McDaniel, Sylvia, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Alabama, and of course Hank Williams Jr. I know there are others, I just can't remember who they are at the moment. It's been ages since I saw this. Anyway, it was a great show with a lot of talented artists. Thanks so much for uploading this. Our VCR broke down years ago, and I haven't been able to see this in a long time.
Taped it live I believe on Cinemax still have the vhs watched it 100 times . Saw him in concert that same year in Butte ,Mt Nitty Gritty Dirt Band opened up for him . Great concert ,great year !
Thank YOU Bocephus from a fellow vet! That was so sweet of u doing that!
Only Hank can sing play any instrument he feels like and sing his heart out God bless for ever .
I will always remember being part of this great show helping setup great times.
Milton Johnson
I bet it was a hellava time brother.
Milton Johnson Do you know a guy named Dave Howard? He was a good friend of my father's and he made Bocephus' guitar straps for him. Dave and Hank were great friends. Dave used to go over to one of Hank's big fancy houses and have dinner with him and his wife.
Milton Johnson my uncle Ken was also part of this show he met Hank after the show and ended up working for Hank for 15 years as a roadie and I finally got to meet Hank Jr back in 1995 in Camden NJ at the BB&T Pavilion it was my going away present because a week later I was shipping out to Paris Island to begin 13 weeks of Marine Corps boot camp

This is a real American
I was stationed on “Connie” for almost 5 years in the Hydraulic Shop, Engineering Department as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer from 1983 to 1987 and I was at this remarkable concert. I was front row center “standing room only!” What you find online doesn’t do justice to the way it really unfolded. For instance, at the start the officers and their wives were sitting up front and the enlisted were curtained off from the officers. But the DJ that was going to introduce Hank said that Hank didn’t like discrimination and told us to all come up. The barriers went down as the enlisted crowded forward while the officers and their wives ended up in the back…it was hilarious! BTW, the concert date for June 1984 is wrong. It was on Valentine’s Day in 1984. I still have my original ticket and the chronological order of events for the year. Alabama was the hottest band that night and I was able to get Randy Owen’s autograph. I will always miss and remember affectionately my time aboard “Connie.”
This didn't happen in June 1984. I stationed on the ship at the time and this happened a couple months before April 1984. Cause that's when I was discharged.
It was on 14 February , valentine's day 1984 . It aired on HBO in june '84 . I was aboard Connie and discharged in May'84 .
Me too! About the making people mad!😊
Incredible!!!
Country girls too!

It's 2020 and sorry to say it but Country music is dead.. This right here will never be reproduced. Hank is the fucking man! And he did it without skinny jeans...

What is the song name in 11:41?
Man of Steel
Man of steel
Mfin Hank Jr. Y'all get you some
show killer and good year blimp too
Man of Steel was a Really Good Song There.
Yes Lord my best friend Daddy P🆘
Tha man looks so good and loved !Wow!!
Just missed it by a couple of years !
A lot of pain in that last song.
Bocephus why are you wearing the yankee army clothes?
This clip doesn't show it but later he performs "Tennessee River" with the supergroup ALABAMA playing the banjo while wearing the Confederate jacket and hat. So in my opinion he was just embracing American military history in general.
You were lucky
Really?? Half the show??
Amen carol g 💓😊
Love hank
Yes they are
Murica!!!
