  • After losing the 2013 NBA Finals in crushing fashion to the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs went on a season-long revenge tour of beautiful basketball, led by their veteran trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. But those Spurs also rostered an ascendant Kawhi Leonard, who would win Finals MVP in 2014, and a deep bench that got huge contributions from its many international players en route to a ring. In this episode of Why They Won, Kirk Goldsberry explores the stats that made this team so exceptional.

    The pain of 2013 made 2014 so much sweeter. Any Spurs fan who went through 0.4, Manu Foul, etc knows the emotions. 213 everything was looking good for the Spurs. Parker's last minute shot over LeBron, Neal and Green barrage, etc. Then R.A. hits that 3. I still can't watch last minutes of 2013 game 6 in all honesty. @@userunknown1578 I'm a spurs fan, but I can't say that. The spurs had all the opportunities in the world to win that game 6. Look at all the missed free throws, and as I was watching the game, I remember seeing Pop take Duncan out the last play, while the Heat kept Bosh in, and I started screaming at the tv, knowing Pop should have kept Duncan in for rebounding, since Bosh stayed in. They make 1 more of those missed free throws, or Pop leaves Duncan in, they win the game. I could understand taking Duncan out if Bosh had came out, but there was nobody to rebound. Bad coaching decision. The Spurs had more than enough chances to win. They can blame no one but themselves. But I have never seen a more resilient team...to come back and win the next year after such a heartbreaking loss, was incredible. But everyone knows they should have had the Heat 2 yrs in a row

    Back when KD got jealous of Kawhi and called him a system player which was true at that time, but KD was petty for that comment.

    The best NBA basketball I've ever seen before the boredom of whatever this is in the present when people just like to throw threes, do kangaroo step backs, and a defense that's represented by Draymond.

Tony aint even on top 75 and he's still greater than dame at this point imo. Dame' body of work is still ongoing and he has to do more to eclipse so many snubs like dwight, tony, pau, king, tmac, vince, bosh, english...ect

    Im a new basketball fan (as of 2018), but Tim Duncan was one Ray Allen miss away from being 6-0 in the NBA finals. That isn't nearly talked about enough considering Jordan's 6-0 is considered this great feat. Duncan isn't even in a lot of people's top 10 all time. Why is that?

    • @nydibs
      @nydibs 10 месяцев назад +2

      Duncan is regularly in the top 10. He gets disrespected bc he was perceived as “boring” and stayed out of the spotlight
      Too many “fans” are just blinded by the hype machine. It’s why some actually think Lebron is the goat

    • @nothingtoseehere96

      It's because of the LeBron effect. People lied about LeBron being the GOAT or at least being an obvious #2. So Magic, Bird, Kareem, Duncan, etc. all began being treated like scrubs to make Lebron look better.
