Personally, based on what you've laid out, I think you solved it. Cause your solution addresses people's issues with the 4th letter and how the name is meant to be spelled, using not so much speculation and moreso evidence from the book itself. Also the mirror that should have been more important, yet kept getting glossed over a lot, has relevance and more meaning now. It always kinda felt to me like we were supposed to get a name reveal from it but from what I saw, no one really addressed it or had a satisfying answer So personally, long story short, yea. I HAVE A THEORY WITH BARELY ANY SUPPORT, PHONE GUY IS CHICA CHILD FROM THE BITE OF 83 CHICA CHILD CALLS HIS FRIEND TO HELP WITH THE NIGHTS AT HIS JOB TO GET OVER HIS TRAMA AND CHICA CHILD MOST LIKELY DIES FROM A BITE, I SERIOUSLY CAME UP WITH THIS OUT OF NO WHERE
I like your solution better. This solution feels like a bit of a stretch tbh (relative to the "simpler" puzzle solutions throughout the rest of the book), what with 5 representing 5 children and 4 representing 4 letters, it's not exactly an intuitive connection. The same can be said about 7 and 1. I honestly can't see Scott putting that in the book with the intention of us putting that together. Regardless of whether or not your solution for the tallies is exactly correct, it's hard for me to believe that the tallies are anything other than counting up to a total. Firstly, they are tally marks, that's literally all they do, they tally. Secondly, tallies of 5 are ALWAYS grouped together, never independent from each other. It just makes intuitive sense that the tally of 4 indicates the end of the sequence of tallies. Anyways, that's my two cents. Great vid!
Literally. But i think that pointing out the mirror part is important because it wouldn't make sense otherwise that scott would give a reversed answer for this alone.
@@HyperDroidLike, Imagine the secret ending for SOTM being Afton’s POV of the Bite of 93. And he screams the crying child’s name (and how he reacts to Micheal’s role in what he just did). Not only could it 100% confirm his name, but also give us some insight to the Afton family relationship.
@@HyperDroid It's kind of hinted at in the FNAF movie interviews, he just prefers to use later entries to push fans in the right direction and fill in blanks that they're missing 🤔
Allow me to go fully weird with it for a sec: William - "Strong-willed", literally a man whose will to live is so strong he's immortal. Michael - "God is unparalleled/ *who resembles God?* (Retorical question)", a man who looks *'just like his father'* . David - "Beloved", the son William watched the closest, who he promised to put back together. Whose death was the impetus to his descent into madness. Elizabeth - "My God is an oath.", the daughter who broke an oath to her father and died for it, and attempts to reclaim her loyalty even in the afterlife.
THATS SOUNDS LIKE ITS ALL LIKE A FAMILY NAME THING I THINK MAYBE THE MOTHER HAVE ALSO A NAME SIMILAR TO THAT IN MY FAMILU FOR EXAMPLE THEY DO SOMETHING A BIT EASIER TO SPOT MY FATHERS FAMILY ALL HAVE NAMES THAT START WITH E (IM ENMA AND MY BROTHERS ERNEST AND EMIR) MY MOTHERS FAMILY MOST HAVE NAMES ENDING WITH "EL" (ANGEL NAMES) LIKE RAFAEL, ISRAEL, URIEL AND MY THIRD NAME ISABEL AND MY SISTERS AND ME HAVE "ANIA" NAMES, IM DANIA, AND MY SISTERS ARE TANIA AND VANYA SO I THINK FOR WILLIAM FAMILY THE NAMES MEANINGS MAY BE SOMETHING BIBLICAL AND WITH A MEANING ON THE ACTUAL STORY ALSO I LIKE THAT ELIZABETH AND ISABEL HAVE THE SAME MEANING :3 (IM ALMOST NAMED LIKE BABY)
I kid you not I thought of that but I thought it was so obvious I didn't mention it though I'm almost certain I wouldn't have though of how to get the evad
Both dual process theory and this one has been making me go “Maybe the entire community should take a step back, forget everything we think we know, and solve everything again from the ground up one game at a time and see what we come up with
No, at this point Steel Wool is probably building off of incorrect theories, and their first game actually suggested everything before is potentially retconned anyway.
@@TMS-Oddbot saying Steel Wool is "building off of incorrect theories" is a little weird, though. I thought people had said that Scott oversaw the project? I think it's better to think of it as a sort of "reboot" of the story that Scott and SW are using to take the games in a different direction. The story of the Aftons is done with UCN, William is stuck in purgatory and the spirits (most of them anyway depending on how you take the ending or whatever with Cassidy/vengeful spirit) are free. That's closed. The mostly supernatural/fantasy aspect of it with spirits haunting machines seems to be mostly over, and now they're being taken on a more modern path with AI and everything else. It looks like the same universe, but a different continuity. That's how I take it anyway.
Sire Squawks does something similar to that degree, going back, and discussing details from previous games, and their possible connections to later titles, such as the cases for and against Molten MCI, who possessed the Logbook, etc.
Makes sense. Neither Evan nor Garret are British names. Dave on the other hand- Yeah, I hear it everywhere. Every other guy is named Dave here. Why would William name his kid anything other than a British name?
@@Khloe.6102 Probably just cause FNAF is set in Utah, obviously it is very possible for British people to move to America but it was probably just a random curve ball that only annoys them because it was kind of random
@@HyperDroidsorry if this video was already made or if this is a bad request, but I do really need a video explaining all the lore so I can catch up (I took a break in 2020 I think then came back in 2022 I’m never doing that again) so I really need a video with lore that was confirmed (theories can be added) but yeah I just need to get back to understanding things😭
I’d say Dave is a lot more compelling of an answer than Evan for his name especially because of existence of the name in the franchise apart from the puzzle
Wait, wait, it's just as likely to be David Baron, too. Although either way, _does that mean that they've been CANADIAN this entire time, not British??????_ :P
This theory is made even stronger by the fact that the "reflection" passages seem to line up with at least two questions that Cassidy asked. Reflect on your happiest day - the party was for you. Reflect on your dreams - do you still have dreams. One also asked about imaginary friends, could be linked to seeing/hearing?
I 100% believe that the Tally-marks are the way of Scott guiding us to Cassidy's name. He 100% thought that we were gonna be stuck at Cassidy's name instead of Dave's. I BET that Scott was/is laughing at us all this time for not finding the easier name first. Good Job!! You cooked with this theory!!!!
@@eleanor3445apparently he officially leaves gtlive in october or something (according to other fans.. I’ve been too busy to watch lives if they’ve been mentioned on there)
Dude you have convinced me. This feels right, and the idea of William using his sons name is just perfect for his character and the line of "I will put you back together"
This is the biggest stretch, but reminding me of the “put back together” line just made me think of one of the most famous sculptures in the world: the David. Which in turn makes sense because ultimately, the CC isn’t much more than a project to William on one level (much like an art piece), but represents something far greater when put in the context of remnant experiments (like how the David was a piece from Florence meant to intimidate those in power in Rome). It’s a bit early, so I’m not sure if I’m articulating this well, but long story short, Dave scratches the art history itch when taking the CC as a symbol for William’s ambitions.
Dave actually makes sense, considering afton family members names They got pretty formal names William Micheal Elizabeth And now David I think that would make sense (Edit: wow I don't have as many subscribers as I have likes on this comment 😂)
A possible meta reason for why he used 39 in the first place, might be because that’s the crying child’s age now - scratching tally marks like the stereotypical prisoner, especially given how important ‘birthdays’ are to the character. This book was published in 2017, which minus 39 gives you 1978, the bite was in 1983, making him five years old (which feels about right).
And the crying child's birthday is presumably in the summer! Scott Cawthon was also born in 1978, June 4th specifically, I think it would be honestly hilarious if he made the crying child's birthday the exact same as his own
I fee like Scot was trolling with us in VIP by using Ike and Devan as brothers. It’s like he combined cc’s actual name and the name everyone was calling him. Dave + Evan = Devon
My girlfriend and I were just watching this again, when we came to the "TYFWA" solution that came up nothing. She instantly said, "To you from, William Afton"... I was just sat jaw agape for a bit. But it just doesn't work does it? I'm impressed she just spun round and said that outta nowhere though! She's not a fan per say, but we enjoy the videos! Clearly more than I appreciated. This is still one of the most concrete theories this series has ever seen. Massive well done again!
Currently on a little FNAF revisit, and I have to say your theory holds water. I’m impressed. This was a really interesting perspective, especially pointing out the use of “reflect” in the pages with Cassidy’s questions.
If these theories are true (which I honestly fully believe), I bet Scott was sitting in complete disbelief at how complicated everyone was making a puzzle whose solution was simply “39 = 39”
right when i saw the 39 = 39 you wrote, i though 3x3 and 9+9 which is 9 and 18, then i got 198, so then i thought "well theres 7 tallies" so 1987. idk why i thought of that by just 39 = 39 lol
David meaning “beloved” also might refer to and hint at David being William’s favorite child as, if you believe he was the very first to die, David would be the catalyst to William’s murder spree. A child so “beloved” by his father his death drove William to insanity. Also even if the name Dave Miller may not be William’s canon alias when he works as a night guard in the games, the fact that the name Dave is associated (or should I say RELATED) with William Afton at all could mean something.
@@axisaxolotl5875 Far from it, in _any_ continuity William seems to overlook or underappreciate Elizabeth and he sees Michael more as a tool, "David" would naturally be his favorite. In the books, Elizabeth is a tool Afton uses for his own gain, in the games he completely overlooks her, in the movie she either doesn't exist or is Vanessa, who he still mistreats.
I’m absolutely in love with this theory. William having Michael, David, and Elizabeth, all Biblical names as others have pointed out, seems very fitting for the creator of this series. I love that you used the mirror and I can’t believe how close the community was! All this time. Imagine if that final question and answer had been slightly more clear in their relation to one another. Makes you wonder if a small tweak could’ve helped the community find this solution faster.
More Proof of crying child's name being Dave in Security Breach: there has been significance of the name Dave/David which either hints or parallels at the theory that crying child's name is Dave. In Security breach in the when you go to upgrade your entry ticket to get into the pizzeria there is a duffel bag and the note is titled "HI DAVE" in all caps almost hinting at significance even though the message just says: "CUSTOMER COMPLAINT - You should fire Dave. He sucks.". It really does feel like Scott Cawthon has been rubbing it in our faces the whole time. Anyways just felt like another parallel that is trying to hint us in the right direction.
I think this is a great find cause I always found it weird that the mirror didnt seem to come into play as much as it should have. But this makes so much sense
I’VE ALSO BEEN THINKING THIS! Ever since I heard that ‘Evad’ was the foxy grid, I’ve always been like “uhh just put it backwards, it’s just Dave” I’M SO GLAD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT OF THIS!!!
This theory is awesome! The only drawback is that the answers that the Crying Child gives to Cassidy's questions aren't always answers, but rather statements. The infuriating part of finding a four letter name is that it's a lot easier to stumble into unintended solutions. Like, the name Cassidy is a whopping 7 letters, and the method to finding it is so deliberate that it could never happen on accident. If CC's name were actually something along the lines of Garrett, it would be so much easier to confirm...
While I can understand the one answer to cassidy's not being super direct I'm missing how its a dead stop for some of you. The reflect thing is so incredibly rock solid beyond a shadow of a doubt...what more could you want? This is a phenomenal theory. Can't wait to see Matpats reaction. The Foxy grid being solved while he is still active enough to see it and respond is such a perfect thing for the last phase of Matpat, so thank you Hyper Droid.
I agree, the reflect thing is really what got me. Because outside of it leading to an answer to something, it is WAY out of place in not only the franchise (reflection or self reflection isn’t a major theme) and for the book- why would a security guards log book be pushing self reflecting, or using the WORD reflect when plenty of other words would have fit as well. As a writer one of the first things I do when editing is to check for words I just overused the hell out of… then I go back and find synonyms for them so you don’t read the same word every half a page- if this wasn’t intentional I don’t think we’d be seeing it SO FUCKING MUCH in the book.
Honestly I think the logbook puzzle just wasn’t super amazingly thought out by Scott or whoever else was involved with it lol. The fact that it took this long is kind of a testament to that
This makes so much more sense the way you got Dave than how other people got Evan. It’s more straightforward, you’ve convinced me, he’s called Dave to me now
Dave sounds like it'd make sense. They all have names that can be shortened... Michael = Mike David = Dave William = Will/Bill That being said, nobody says 'Mike Afton' or 'Will Afton,' so I will def be calling him 'David Afton'
Omg, this all falsl together so well! Finally, after all these years, we have the Crying Child's name! Huge kudos to you and the people who also worked it out years ago and got ignored!
Started watching this a couple days ago (presumably the day it came out) and my sister changed it (yt tv) and I hadn’t been able to find it since… Super pumped to find it on my recommended! I think that it’s a great theory (from what I was able to watch) and will continue to watch faithfully!
Huh I've wondering about how lore fans manage to get that name at the time but the foundation of that theory was flimsy at best. They just found that name like they put two pieces of a puzzle while missing the rest of the package so most of us discarded the idea.
Best solution I’ve ever seen. Every other solution requires some weird logic breaks to get an answer. This feels like it was actually intended and lines up for several reasons
I remember this being pushed back rather aggressively a few years ago because MatPat dismissed it as too convoluted without even checking xD Nice to see the solution back. Honestly, it's the best take I've seen and the name fits totally with the bible-thing that Scott has going on. Chears man - and congrats on solving it on your own! That's amazing!
Well that’s actually a nice theory. The crying child has so many names that this just feels like another one added on to the pile. I’m not fully sold until his name is confirmed definitively at this point.
Definitely an interesting theory. I think there's another theory that states that crying child's name is Cassidy. In fact, I think newer material sort of points to the crying child being the 5th MCI victim. Yet I have yet to play the games, read the books, or watch the movie it seems interesting that the Cassidy victim theory is gaining traction regardless.
@@zenvariety9383 It's literally impossible for BV to be the 5th MCI victim. BV dies after having his head crushed by Fredbear, while the 5 MCI victims are killed by William and stuffed into the animatronic suits, possibly at a separate location entirely. Cassidy is the 5th MCI victim, not BV. (Note: BV is short for Bite Victim)
@@fnaffoxy1987well CC didn’t immediately die but went into a coma and william and michael talked to him during the ending of fnaf 4, now I don’t believe he was one of the five, but he didn’t immediately possess fredbear, so something had to happen for him to possess fredbear.
Even in the interview Scott did for the 10th anniversary that he has always been bad with names so him repeating David/Dave throughout the books and games does add up too, and the fact that it’s been “solved” years ago. Great video 🖤
This is a really sensible theory, but also, imagine making a needlessly convoluted puzzle that takes your readership years to solve, and making the solution 'Dave'. Makes me wonder if there's some puzzlebook Golden Raspberry award we can nominate Scott for.
Thank you for writing and animating your script in a way that is so clear! I really struggle to follow what a lot of fnaf theorists are saying, I have awful brain fog and struggle to concentrate, and the lore is so damn confusing. But your videos explain things so clealry and in such a logical way, and don't assume the audience knows a bunch of stuff, so it is always very easy to follow.
Honestly this is probably the best I've seen in terms of figuring out the solution so I will happily adopt "Dave" as crying child's name in the absence of anything to counter this. Like I'm genuinely tired of awkwardly referring to a fictional character by his behavioural tendencies + noun for a sub adult human lmao
Overall I think this is solid! Not 100% convinced, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any clues that point to this. Also, thanks for calling out that William using CC's name would be basically desecration and an indicator he's an awful father, cause you know some fans would be like "He's honoring his beloved son! What a loving dad!'
How is it a desecration of Dave is crying child's name? I'm genuinely curious. (Btw,I do think that William is a POS parent and person in general, not defending Afton in any way. I just don't understand why na!omg himself Dave after his son is bad)
@@Dav458I think (this is just me interpreting) that with who William Afton is, and the actions he takes with all his children, it shows a sinister pattern. Like, normally if your child died and you renamed yourself to them that could be sweet? But even then I doubt a parent who lost a child wants to be reminded at every interaction and would go out of their way to. Especially themselves. But there is some nuance in that. I’ve never lost a child so I wouldn’t know. But William has neglected his children, used them, got them hurt, manipulated them, and even if he THINKS he cares for them, his actions are despicable. So we know if he did pick a new alias, even if it was out of “love” it was for all the wrong reasons. And really, he’s tainting his child’s name as he goes on to commit heinous acts. Thats just my interpretation though, you’re free to feel differently!
How does it mean he didn’t care for his kids. I’m not defending there are so many other reasons he’s a shitty father but I don’t see how this would be one
@@EmotianalBrat Because (in my opinion) it would indirectly show that William doesn’t care at all. He is fine using his dead child’s name to get away with a crime, when he could pick any other name, to absolve himself of any of the consequences his actions caused. The best thing to honor the child would be his abusive dad turning himself in and never harming another child. But that’s not what happens, obviously. Like I said, it could be out of love from his eyes, but really it shows how little he really cares. Or how warped his mind is that he thinks using his dead child’s name, is normal and a loving thing. Or maybe he did it to remind himself of his goals to bring his son back and torture himself. Or something.
i've occasionally seen ppl call the crying child david and i've always wondered why, this makes so much sense. i just randomly got recommended this video but i am so hype for your big video coming out, glad to have found this channel
I'm so glad someone else has come to this conclusion!! I remembered looking at the original Evan Solution when it was first found and seeing something along the lines of "I got EVAD first, but obviously that's not a name so I kept looking" in the post, and thinking "But... That's Dave backwards. Dave Miller? He's using his son's name? Is no one acknowledging this?" So honestly, this is super vindicating for me, and I'm glad you've found actual solid evidence that clicks for it!!
This is easily my favorite solution to amything Freddy's related yet! Dave/David is so perfect for CC, and it makes some much sense! I thought the solution was just to take the numbers CC altered next to and the page numbers they were both on to get the actual letter locations, but this is way better. Great job, man!
Not the most important detail you mentioned, but I think what really sold me on it was when said that David means "beloved". I think your methodology is sound enough, but maybe there's a detail I'm missing from lack of intimate use of the Survival Logbook. I'm probably not going to use the name until we see more of a consensus form, but as for this being proof, you've got me sold.
Also the name Fritz (Like father, like son) can be applied to the fact that Mike could go on the orders of the Father to the position of a security guard with the name that his father came up with for him
wow.... evan will always have a special place in my heart as CC's name, but from what you've laid out it really does seem like dave was the answer we were meant to get
And also remember Michael used the name of the dead foxy kid to get hired at the fnaf 2 location so using a dead kid's name to get hired at a pizza place in fnaf isn't new
I think this is right. It's the simplest solution that actually makes sense. Maybe some of the questions and answers are a stretch, but then again, there are a lot of stretches in fnaf.
came from gtlive's reaction, brother, if you keep up this critical yet simple level of theorising, I'm here to stay (ditching game theory as my source for "close to definitive proof"), for now tho, take my watch time and like, bc you deserve it 150%, good fucking shit man
This actually settles something that's irked me for the longest time, the afton family is British, or at least has British toned names, William, Micheal, Elizabeth. So for crying child to have a name like Evan couldn't make sense, even dave irks me a little but dave can be short term for David. Which would also fit
no yeah 100%! dave as short for david is a very british name. saint david is literally the patron saint of wales! i'm not sure you could get much more 70s/80s british tbh... they're all finally british names :')
10:06 You’ve pretty much convinced me on the Crying Child’s name. That being said, I do think it’d be incredibly dumb on Scott’s part if he made another character who has the same name, is the young son of a Fazbear roboticist, is heavily associated with a plush toy, is tragically killed in the early 80s, and whose death is important to the story and leads to major supernatural phenomena as a “narrative parallel” within the _exact same timeline._ If that story truly is supposed to take place in the main continuity then that’s a pretty asinine creative decision.
As soon as "EVAD" popped up, I was like "WAIT--" That makes so much sense I'm mad about it. Still gonna use Garrett for personal fanworks bc I've already invested too much time in it, but this is too logical not to be canon.
I really like these theories, especially the tally marks with 7 groups of 5 hunting to looking into the name of the 5th missing kid (who had a 7 letter long name) and Dave seems a lot more plausible, with Dave being a name used previously in the franchise whilst Evan isn't, we know Scott likes to re-use names...
I always make sure subtitles are available as soon as the video goes live because to be fair it is just a script I can copy + paste so it's easy for me and helpful for everyone else haha :)
I LOVE this theory!!! And especially the evidence point of “David” being written on the child’s drawing in the movie. I also think that 39 being just a starting point of “hey look at these numbers” makes a lot of sense too. ESPECIALLY with there being TWO page 39s! That’s something that a lot of people could easily miss. Awesome theory video!!!!!
NGL, I think this is probably the best answer we have unless something comes out later to correct us. I like it as it adds significance to William's choice of alias and the name's meaning fitting really well considering people think he died first and was the catalyst for William to begin killing people.
I honestly never thought there would be a day where I could confidently say I felt the foxy grid is solved but you have absolutely proved me wrong. This is a phenomenal theory, thank you.
Damn, both 'Dave' and the tally marks supposed to be the START of the puzzle is extremely convincing. I wonder if @Ryetoast will consider this to be a significant mention of 'David' in the franchise?
dude I remember thinking about the name dave when the log book had just come out… im so glad that theory is getting a shiny new explanation and honestly seems super likely to me !! great job dude u did awesome
"I'm scared" could also be a response to *all* of the other questions, with Dave answering the first three questions while still a bit uncertain about what's going on. Then as the questions start to get faster and more broad-reaching, Dave gets quiet finally just uttering "I'm scared"
my favorite fnaf character Evan/Garrett/Cassidy/Dave/Whateveratthispoint Afton 🤣🤣 but in all seriousness great theory, might start calling him dave from now on, although i personally think garrett fits him the most
the most convincing evidence for me was when u pointed out how dave was the only name shown in all those kid drawings in the movie. love this theory cant wait to see peoples thoughts on it
If reflect is only mentioned four times it could have led to the four questions Self Reflection-> look in the mirror-> i cant see Reflect on what youre grateful for->toy friends->i can hear sounds (a stretch) Reflect on your happiest day->party->it was for me Reflect on the meaning of your dreams->nightmares-> im scared Just saying it might be another skipped step 🎉😅
The name Dave will either be the final answer to this mystery, or it will just join the list of popular but unconfirmed names that fans use for the Crying Child like Evan and Chris :/
@@bupboi6412 From what I remember, it was created not too long after Fnaf 4 was released. It originated from that famous audio clip that is used in many fan animations of the Bite from Fnaf 4. It’s the same audio where Michael/Foxy Bro was called Terrence. Both of these names are completely fan made and have no evidence of being cannon.
Gotta make this video go viral 'cause DANG. so many good points! I doubt we'll ever get an official and not at all cryptic answer from Scott, but thank you for putting your sanity to the test for that puzzle! Good job👏👏
Yooooooo, this Theory is amazing and I love it so much, it makes a lot of sense and I honestly think it's a really cool answer to the Foxy Grid. And Even though I don't know if I am going to be calling him that from now on (I think I might just say "CC" so that the community is not confused when watching my videos), I think your theory is amazing and please keep on making videos!
I think that's it, we can close the logbook. Dave works and I think it makes sense that there were steps we just completely missed that would've led us to the Cassidy solution better. We did kinda just brute force it, wonder what Scott and the writers must've thought about it
I absolutely love this theory. I legit cannot think of something extremely solid to disprove it. I'm personally of the belief that his name is probably "David Afton" with "Dave" being his nickname. It parallels his brother Michael using his nickname "Mike" when signing the logbook. Plus all the points you made about the meaning of the name "David" and it's usage rates also support this conclusion. Overall, fantastic job! You knocked it out of the park.
Honestly I actually believe this 100% Like, the technique is consistent, and makes sense, what else do we want? Evan always had that bittersweet feel, but this one is really logic Also how come you're the first one? That's really surprising Will I be using it..? Not really. He has so many names now (Dave, Evan, Chris, Norman...) that I feel like using them will only create more confusion. Everyone understands CC (or BV for the ones who prefer this one), and it gets straight to the point. Still, I believe in Dave. Evan is used so much it has tattoed itself in my brain, I'll just have to get used to Dave lol (And I don't blame people for using Evan, it's a pretty name)

Great vid!
This makes so much sense. Dave/David also mirrors Mike/Michael so well from a parent’s naming logic.

William - "Strong-willed", literally a man whose will to live is so strong he's immortal.

I appreciate that this is in keeping with "the party was for you" in that CC is stuck on his birthday.
And the crying child's birthday is presumably in the summer! Scott Cawthon was also born in 1978, June 4th specifically, I think it would be honestly hilarious if he made the crying child's birthday the exact same as his own

Also even if the name Dave Miller may not be William’s canon alias when he works as a night guard in the games, the fact that the name Dave is associated (or should I say RELATED) with William Afton at all could mean something.

This theory is awesome! The only drawback is that the answers that the Crying Child gives to Cassidy's questions aren't always answers, but rather statements. The infuriating part of finding a four letter name is that it's a lot easier to stumble into unintended solutions.

I actually really enjoy this idea, and William using his dead son’s name as his alias seems really in character for him
Honestly this is probably the best I've seen in terms of figuring out the solution so I will happily adopt "Dave" as crying child's name in the absence of anything to counter this.
I’m not defending there are so many other reasons he’s a shitty father but I don’t see how this would be one
precisely!

Still gonna use Garrett for personal fanworks bc I've already invested too much time in it, but this is too logical not to be canon.
i really, really like this one. the name “david” just clicks so well in a way evan, chris, etc. never did. really stellar work!!
This makes perfect sense. Considering we called him Evan for years, i don't think people will have an issue calling him Dave now.
Dude you've conected your thought process and the answer so well! Great video!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D
I really like these theories, especially the tally marks with 7 groups of 5 hunting to looking into the name of the 5th missing kid (who had a 7 letter long name)
and Dave seems a lot more plausible, with Dave being a name used previously in the franchise whilst Evan isn't, we know Scott likes to re-use names...
hinting* oops
Thank you for writing subtitles in this video, most of the other theory vids weren't so it was hard to watch
The name dave was also mentioned in the security breach "logs" (they're really just a bunch of purses)
NGL, I think this is probably the best answer we have unless something comes out later to correct us. I like it as it adds significance to William's choice of alias and the name's meaning fitting really well considering people think he died first and was the catalyst for William to begin killing people.
Wasn’t he tho…..?
Then as the questions start to get faster and more broad-reaching, Dave gets quiet finally just uttering "I'm scared"
my favorite fnaf character Evan/Garrett/Cassidy/Dave/Whateveratthispoint Afton 🤣🤣
but in all seriousness great theory, might start calling him dave from now on, although i personally think garrett fits him the most
Cassidy Afton is my variant
the most convincing evidence for me was when u pointed out how dave was the only name shown in all those kid drawings in the movie. love this theory cant wait to see peoples thoughts on it
10:30 It's okay bro....I proud of you that you got everything of this by your own, no matter how many people found this before you.
The simplest solution is more than likely the correct solution. Bravo, really amazing theory!
If reflect is only mentioned four times it could have led to the four questions
Self Reflection-> look in the mirror-> i cant see
Reflect on what youre grateful for->toy friends->i can hear sounds (a stretch)
Reflect on your happiest day->party->it was for me
Reflect on the meaning of your dreams->nightmares-> im scared
Just saying it might be another skipped step 🎉😅
The name Dave will either be the final answer to this mystery,
or it will just join the list of popular but unconfirmed names that fans use for the Crying Child
like Evan and Chris :/
Kenny was one too, you had to be in the trenches to remember that one 😭
Evan is better than David
Did Chris ever have a theory reason for being a name? I just remember people using it because it started with a C tbh
@@bupboi6412 Nah, it never had a theory behind it, it was just a nickname given to him by fans that became too popular
@@bupboi6412
From what I remember, it was created not too long after Fnaf 4 was released.
It originated from that famous audio clip that is used in many fan animations of the Bite from Fnaf 4. It’s the same audio where Michael/Foxy Bro was called Terrence.
Both of these names are completely fan made and have no evidence of being cannon.
“What kind of serial killers name would be Dave?”
The real question should be what kind of serial killers son name would be Dave?
THANK YOU
I accept his name is Dave, but im still calling him the crying child.
Honestly I actually believe this 100%
Like, the technique is consistent, and makes sense, what else do we want?
Evan always had that bittersweet feel, but this one is really logic
Also how come you're the first one? That's really surprising
Will I be using it..? Not really. He has so many names now (Dave, Evan, Chris, Norman...) that I feel like using them will only create more confusion. Everyone understands CC (or BV for the ones who prefer this one), and it gets straight to the point.
Still, I believe in Dave. Evan is used so much it has tattoed itself in my brain, I'll just have to get used to Dave lol (And I don't blame people for using Evan, it's a pretty name)
what does BV stand for actually? First time i've heard of someone calling him that
@@pigeon-7632 it stands for Bite Victim. Is not thaat popular as CC but i've seen it quite a lot
@@pigeon-7632 Bite Victim.
@@pigeon-7632 Bite Victim = BV
Ive never heard Norman for him, where'd that come from?
I legit paused at 7:10 and yelled "holy shit!" when I had the realization about the mirror.
