Having grown up in Calgary, this is gold...the voice of Ed Whalen. Surreal to be watching this from my home in Prague, where I've lived for almost 30 years.
You know what I really liked Minnesota(North Stars)they had some really good years 👌 😋 😳 😍 👍 made the playoffs often!!!!they where a tough team too beat 💓😳😅it too bad they folded!!°°,,,but you know what the North star just one year didn't play in one season and it stayed like that but the state get a team with a fifteenth name uniforms the wild!!why did they stop playing in the N.H.L??????
Lol. State of hockey. Fair weather fans. They sure packed the seats a month later during their cup run. Come 1992 back to an empty met center. Stop blaming norm green. I would have moved the team as well..
You didn't pay attention to what the announcers said about the state tournament attendance going on at the same time as this game over in St Paul. The seats were empty because fans were trying to stick it to Norm Greene. He bought the majority of the team to shop it. That was always his intentions. Just like he did with the Flames to Canada. Attendance was just an excuse and when attendance came back up in the last 2 seasons guess what he blamed the local news for how they treated as the reason for the move. He even said the reason he SAed women was because he was from Canada and that is how this were done there. Guy was a creep the fans hated. In the end he won because.. Also we are the state of hockey because we produce more High school, College, and NHL players than any other State.
@@ridingthecosmos6273 Norm Green was a CREEP! No one liked him! I went to about 200 games in the late 80's and early 90's and when he changed the classic Green and Gold jerseys with the N to the crap they wore in 92 and 93 I and other fans wanted to PUKE! For God sakes when they finally retired Bill Goldsworthy's jersey they rose it to the rafters in the arena in BLACK. Norm also had an apparent abuse charge with his secretary who's dad was a city councilman and announced moving the team a few days later after this was brought up. I want to let you all know that for game 6 against Pittsburgh although we got killed I stayed the entire game because I had a chance to see the Stanley Cup be presented. Although it was not my beloved North Stars it was pretty cool to see it happen right in front of my face. A hockey highlight for sure!!
At that time, Minnesota was the only American state where hockey was understood and loved, but at the same time demanding results. Unlike in Canada, where the audience will walk at any result. Who could have predicted how the team would be transformed in the playoffs.:)
Attendance wasn’t the major problem. An employee sexual harassment suit by Kari Dziedzic against Norm was the problem. Green’s wife told him she’d walk on him unless he moved the team out of Minnesota because of the suit. Attendance wasn’t the biggest issue. The team could have survived or been sold to a local ownership group. If Norm Green knew how to treat his female employees the North Stars would still be in Minnesota. Attendance was just the excuse given. A slick talking, oily huckster from Calgary named Norm Green would be hung if he ever appeared in Minnesota today. And Minnesota is called the “State of Hockey”. No other state produces more youth, high school, college, and NHL players. Attendance wasn’t really a problem as much as the quality on the ice. There were some poor years in the 80s, which allowed them to draft Modano and Lawton #1 overall (although they could have had LaFontaine or Yzerman instead of Lawton).

Empty seats at the Met Center. Unnacceptable in the "Hockey State".

The team wasnt very good at that point. Not alot of people dont wanna watch a cruddy hockey team.
@Brian Hardaway for sure. We learned our lesson Haha
