I have owned three MacBook Pros since 2007. I am very happy with my most recent machine, a 15 Inch 2015 model. I have seen various reviews and comments from other RUclipsrs who have mentioned the same issues as this video highlights.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that the new 16Inch MacBook Pro lives up to the hype.
As for video creation/editing , I use iMovie myself and I am very happy with this.

@@bibletwink666 Exactly. I considered the new surface book and surface laptop, mainly because i liked the 3:2 aspect ratio which is very similar to mac's 16:10. Turns out the surface book has a major hardware issue with cracking screens because the design makes the glass at the top of the screen touch the base when closed. Just check out the reviews for these surface devices on microsoft's own website, full of broken screens and other issues and these devices sadly cost just as much as the macbooks they compete with. If Dell ever makes an XPS model with a 3:2 or 16:10 aspect ratio I would certainly consider it but all the pc laptop makers stick to 16:9 :(

I gave up on Macs maybe five or six years ago. To be clear, I'm not a professional, and I'm not here to tell anyone that they're "wrong" for still liking or enjoying Apple products: if Mac and iPhone still works for you, that's awesome. I honestly miss a lot of things about Mac, but all of the little annoyances and difficulties just built up for me to the point where I ditched the ecosystem and went back to Windows.
Apple's simple and efficient design aesthetic used to be the gold standard of computers (especially laptops), but at least for me, they've really lost sight of that standard. They still make beautiful devices from design standpoint, and they're still brilliantly functional, but there are so many little drawbacks, bugs, and compromises now that it's just not worth it to me to shell out for a MacBook Pro every few years when I can just build a high-end desktop PC and buy a cheap Windows laptop to do all the other stuff I need to be able to do on the go.
And again, to be clear, I am not a professional, I don't use my desktop or laptop for video editing, at most I do a bit of hobbyist-level music production. So I understand that someone tied into Final Cut would find it very hard to cut the cord.
Anyway. I'm rambling, but, yeah, I share your sentiment. If I felt I could RELY on the MacBook Pro the way I used to, I'd go back to it. It's just not for me anymore.

I've been using Macs professionally for nearly two decades now, for video, photo, graphic design, and audio production. I still have to use Macs at work, because it's what we have there. But, Apple has massively declined in quality and reliability for their devices, and the OS that runs them. And so I now only buy Windows devices; they are cheaper, more powerful, and just as reliable. It used to be that people ran Macs because 'it just works', but that statement is just not true anymore. And not only that, but many of their really brilliant creative professional products have either been downgraded or discontinued. Why buy an unreliable Mac for FCPX, when you can instead use Resolve, Avid, or Vegas? Better yet, most professionals have Adobe CC anyways, so just use Premiere (which is much better). Sketch? Use XD, which is free.

    Hey Michael,
I love my MBP, but the problems have made me consider switching back to a PC as well. I also use to use Final Cut Pro for video editing, but I came across Davinci Resolve (14 at the time) and never looked back at FCP again after I started fooling around with resolve. FYI, resolve works on Mac, Windows, and Linux, so don’t let FCP be the only reason you keep the MBP. Give resolve a shot because you may be pleasantly surprised at how freaking good the software is, not to mention how much stuff is included with it!

    1) I actually like the 4 USB-C ports (2 on each side) on my 15" MBP 2018. I can use the adapter to plug my peripherals on any side I want. This is great when working in tight spaces and I want the cords on just one side. Better cable management.
    2) Never had a TouchBar or Keyboard issue (knocks on wood, cause I know the keyboard issue is real).
    3) The money I spent on my MBP is NOT worth it. I do love the touchpad and like some MacOS only editing software, but there are plenty of PC laptops that are much better bang for the buck.

Sad thing is Apple is not the only company with reliability issues in their machines. I have a Dell laptop that, for the past 2 years, has given me nothing but problems. I have had to send the machine off to the service center 7 TIMES, with 2 replacement machines in a year due to issues that fell under the warranty, ranging from touch screen issues to a faulty palmrest that caused the keyboard to dip down into the chassis. I am a student, and being without my laptop for up to 3 weeks due to constantly shipping the laptop back to the service center (Because Dell put the wrong part on, or didn't do the work that they were supposed to) made my classes much harder. Even the laptop I have now (which they gave to me new, but without a warranty, as it had run out during one of the trips to the service center) has issues with the touchscreen failing (I ended up writing a script that I keep in my taskbar to disable and reenable the touchscreen to fix the problem).
Not to mention the first model (The one I have now is a later generation of the design) had 1 USB 3 port, and a USB 2.0 port on a mid-to-high-end computer purchased in 2017, as well as a USB C port that didn't support Thunderbolt.

With all the issues with the current machine, that you and others have highlighted. I ended up switching to an iPad Pro as my mobile machine. I still have a desktop Mac for the big editing jobs. But as of right know I’ve found the iPad Pro perfectly suitable for illustration, photo manipulation and even video editing. With that said, I do mis have one machine that could do it all. i'm using this customized laptop by Level 51, a small tech startup company in Singapore. I don't like Macbook Pros but that's because of the pricing and also, it's not my cup of tea. I also don't like the Microsoft Surface, in which case, i rather have a Macbook Pro. I do my music editing on my windows laptop without any issues and even video editing. I'm no Mr.Mobile but i think i'm Ok with video editing so at the end of the day, preference is what it is. I can't stand the Macbook, but i do know people who would love it and overlook its flaws. Windows 10 have flaws, like the updates that can almost kill off your PC within seconds, people overlook. I do try to look beyond the marketing these companies make and make a practical choice but sometimes we get pulled into it without realizing but with people like Mr.Mobile, i always feel informed with a practical look into things plus he has that radio-DJ voice that can sooth a savage beast.

The 12 and the 2017 had endless keyboard issues - I think the 12 still has some but I CBA to sort at the moment. My 2015 - zero issues, best laptop ever. My 2018? I have had just under a year now and touch wood zero keyboard issues. Without them this is a dream laptop - I don’t mind dongles either, in the main I just bought USBC cables instead which work fine. 9/10 I work on wifi so very few connections needed. I luckily have had no issues with the touch-bar nor do I press the Siri button. Horses for courses. They should have learnt the lessons from the 12”, but seemed not to until the 2018 version. It’s a crying shame and smacks of “Valley” testing with very careful execs. I still flinch when crumbs get on the keyboard!

So I have a 2.4 GHz i7 with 2013 logic board. Not fast for doing 4K editing. I have been using FCP since that came out as well, and like most of the people here, I have stuck with Apple because of that. So I didn't upgrade in 2016, and I am glad I stuck with the older, more ports model. Let's hope Apple listen to their pro customers. I am not bothered if it weighs a bit more. Rather more ports than less weight. I guess we will find out very shortly.

Because so much of what I do from Productivity to Consumption is in the cloud I don't see a huge difference. The butterfly keyboard was really the nail in the coffin for me. Apple should pull the MacBooks from the market as it's a defective product. That's what companies are supposed to do - Don't sell us defective stuff. Redesign the Macbook, hire a few folks from Lenovo to design the new keyboard, and release a MacBook worthy of the name.
Sadly, this ain't our Apple anymore. This iteration of Apple has a very hostile view toward it's customers, whether it's soldering on RAM and SSD's, throttling phones to push new purchases, lazily updating processors yet still charging premium prices for underperforming machines and most damning, fighting efforts to allow consumers to repair their own machines. Michael, this Apple sees customers the way used car lots sees customers - as marks to be had.

I would take one or two problems with a MacBook then deal with Lenovo's X1 Carbon's warped screens they've been sending to customers. After googling, I'm glad to know there were many people who got warped screens, so I was not alone. The X1 Extreme is just junk. Edit: I'm not being sarcastic... I just think people need to be educated about the fact that there are missing out on so many decent options that other manufacturers have to offer. Apple isn't trying to make a good product anymore. They only want money. That's all.

"Apple isn't trying to make a good product anymore." I actually strongly disagree with this. In many ways the current lineup of Apple products is very good; as I mention in the video, some of it is legitimately the best you can buy. I think the difference today is that the attention to detail and quality control have lapsed, leading to more major problems with the devices that hit consumers' hands.

I’m loving the 2015 Air. Recently my workflow has changed, I need more powerful computer and I need to use XCode, so the Macs are my only option. The only thing preventing me from buying the MacBooks is their deflects, keygate, flexgate, staingate (if that’s still a thing) I really hope that they fix it this year.

Enjoyed the review. I’m still rocking the 2015 MBP. I would consider a newer model once they fix the keyboard issue.
