Everyone hates fondant lol it's a meme on the big reddit culinary and baking subs at this point that everyone hates it and will constantly bring up how no one likes fondant
I never had fondant until my wedding cake. We wanted a certain look that the bakers found difficult to achieve. They suggested we use fondant, we agreed. Our cake looked like how we drew it but the taste... I wasn't a fan at all. At least I know now just wish it wasn't my wedding cake experience but I'll never forget. The cake flavor itself was delicious though.
"Dear Mario - I made a bunch of cakes trying out a new recipe and I really really REALLY need someone to help me get rid of them. I hope you like raisins. - Peach"
In Paper Mario 64, there's a segment where Peach bakes a cake and you follow instructions to do so. It would be funny to see a video where you follow those instructions exactly and see how it turns out.
Pro tip from a cake decorator! When you're piping icing out from a big, full bag like that, put your dominant hand (off hand holding the top of the bag if necessary) closer to the base/tip of the bag and twist it, so you're only pushing out what you can comfortably hold. Makes it a lot easier to control the bag, and your piping should come out smoother as well!
hi, out of curiosity can i ask how u became a cake decorator? like did u go to college and do u have ur own business/how did u get ur job? i’m in high school so i was just wondering how ppl become bakers and if they usually get degrees in smth or go to culinary school
I personally could have done without it if only cause I'm not really a fan of his singing. Nothing against him as an actor and i think he was perfect for the role of Bowser but that scene just took me right out of the movie and he stopped being Bowser and just went back to Jack Black. Course I was right back into the movie as soon as he quit singing. I can only assume that Black has some kind of clause in his contract that says he's allowed to sing if he's hired.
Great idea with the peach filling! I dont think i wouldve thought of that. Funny, in most iterations of Peach's cakes, they always give dominance to strawberry... i always kind've imagined most of her cakes to be Strawberry Shortcake-y.
@@lawandaclemmons7510 thats uh... GOT to be some kinda language... I don't know WHAT KIND, but, there is certainly an attempt at communication here, right?
You’ve come a long way with your voiceovers, you use such flavored language now like “vanilla spiked milk” and “borderline unpourable” and it’s awesome
Me and my two older brothers played super Mario 64 and paper Mario 64 when we were kids and seeing you make this cake definitely made me feel very happy and nostalgic (maybe cry a bit too). Thank you Andrew, you’re amazing! ☺️🥲💜
Another great video...small tip, my mom used to cut cake layers using a piece of string (not thread), much easier to get it straight and even for each layer, hope it helps!
I've never played Mario 64 (I didn't have an N64 growing up), but somehow I was still filled with a wave of nostalgia when you lit the star. Thank you, Babish and team!
I literally just got back from Japan where I went to super Mario world! They had peaches cake in the toaststool cafe! It was amazing! Such cool timing that you’re making it now
I never thought about it, but it would make sense for it to be a peach flavored cake! I always thought it was plain white or even strawberry flavored lol Lovely cake all the same!
While we're on the topic of cake, I'd love to see you make the Marzipan Mascarpone Meringue Madness (aka, the MMMM) from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic next! I'd also love to play a whole game with just your singing as the background music!😊❤
As long as you're using real chocolate to make it and not candy melts, lol. I might be in the minority, but fake chocolate is only barely more edible than fondant. My friend loves it, I think it's the second-most disgusting "sweet" on earth, second only to fondant. But modeling chocolate CAN be made by melting REAL chocolate, too. (It's not chocolate, officially, if it doesn't have cocoa butter, and these fake chocolates usually use vegetable oil, and I find the taste repulsive)
There are ways to bake cake without it doming in the oven. You can put pre-soaked cake strips around the outside of the cake pan (I recommend Wilton brand cake strips) or you can bake the cake at 325F which slows the rise in the leavener (check for doneness after the original bake time and every 5 minutes after until the cake is fully baked).
I'd happily make this but I'm making it with proper buttercream or the stabilised whipped cream I saw in one of your other videos because Swiss meringue is sickly sweet in my opinion
I love Super Mario 64 so much given that it was my childhood game that made me the nerdy gamer I am today. But to see Babish recreate the cake shown after the credits in Mario 64 is really touching coming from a die hard Mario fan like myself. 😊 I’m sure the original voice actors both Charles Martinet & Leslie Swan (Peach’s original voice actress in the games prior to Jen Taylor (known nowadays for voicing Halo’s Cortana) and Samatha Kelly currently) and at the same Mario’s creator & game director Shigeru Miyamoto-san would all be so proud. So to quote Mario similarly in the game in that last cake shot: “Thank you so much for a making dis cake.”
Wow if only this video came out a week ago haha For easter I made a lemon blueberry cake for my family and the blueberry was a compote filling in the centre, i was so unsure of how to keep the filling inside of the cake without it squooshing all out. though to be fair my frosting was a little softer so I dont think this would have worked. In the end I blended up my filling into a paste and spread a thin layer into the cake, and it just absorbed into the cake but it still made a nice defined layer and it looked like it was intentional too so it all worked in my favor hahaha
Babish, you got it all right except with this being in the context of Mario, that's probably not going to be a buttercream cake but a Japanese-style shortcake, meaning the layers would be made of chiffon and the cream would have been something along the lines of stabilized Chantilly cream. I can see the problem that would pose with draping over the bottom two layers but you might have been able to get away with it at medium peaks, and then pour on a frozen cake. Nevertheless an enjoyable episode! Thank you for the food~
This made me cry. Before anyone judges why a Peach cake made me cry, please read. My cat Peach (who was named after the game) was diagnosed with congestive heart failure March 29th and passed away April 2nd. While she was in the hospital getting treatment my fiancé and I watched Babbish to try and get our mind off of stuff. He heard of Babbish before but I have never heard of him. We binged his videos for hours and even the day of her passing. Now I see this cake. I know the movie just came out by the coincidence is killing me. 😭 👑 🍑

If you want to amke any more cakes, might I suggest investing in a cake wire cutter? It's basically a taut wire that, depending on which brand you get, you can adjust, so you can use that to cut the cake much more evenly. The only thing is you'd just have to move the wire steadily across, so it won't come out lumpy. But definitely easier than using a long knife.
Congratulations on Ten Million Subs! I've been watching your channel since day one, and it is still one of my favourites! Thank you for everything you do Andrew and team!
This made me think of the cake boss from Super Mario RPG on SNES. I understand if the team doesn't want to make 3 cake layers that are about 4 feet tall each for a 12 foot tall cake. To be show accurate, the Babish crew would have to fight it when it comes alive, only for Andrew to swallow the entire thing in one bite at the end.

My aunt was a career cake decorator, and she would totally agree with your assessment of fondant being gross. Thanks.
My dad was a baker for 50+ years and would actively avoid it and almost never buy or make a cake for the family if he could avoid it
Everyone hates fondant lol it's a meme on the big reddit culinary and baking subs at this point that everyone hates it and will constantly bring up how no one likes fondant
i would say that marzipan is much better to use on cakes and tastes much better.
Modeling chocalate and marzipan are way better. But fondant is still nice for practice because it's easy and cheap to make.
I never had fondant until my wedding cake. We wanted a certain look that the bakers found difficult to achieve. They suggested we use fondant, we agreed. If Super Princess Peach ever gets a sequel, we definitely need a minigame where Peach bakes a variety of cakes.

She bakes one in Paper Mario!
