As an anthropology major, specializing in archaeology, I had to take Geo 101 or as we at Ole Miss affectionately called it, "rocks for jocks" LOL. I have learned things watching this channel I never learned in that class. Love this stuff! The flourite with the black light reminds me of going through Rock City as a child.

Love the intro, you already updating for the new year. A great explorer (a lot of comedy love the out takes). Make you don't go to far from your limit's). You have been waiting for this one for a long time. Enjoy and thank's you for bringing us along.
The BL is long wave I presume. Being an ancient rock hound, not collecting since the 80's, I remember using a BL in many cases. Though we used a 120V unit, with a separate battery pack to power it. The advantage here, was that we could use both long and short wave UV lights to identify different minerals, sometimes within the same matrix. It can make for an awesome light show. Keep up the good work, really enjoy seeing an old passion brought to life.
Gly, Thanks for the fluorite mine. I have been waiting for a episode that showed the beauty of these mines and you did not disappoint us. I would have watched and committed earlier but spent most of last week and part of the weekend hospitalized and just now got to your show. As always I really appreciate what you do for us and taking us along. Stay safe and keep take us to awesome places.
Thank you for bringing us this excellent and very informative video presentation which is much appreciated by the people. That fluorite looked very impressive under the ultra violet light, it was a considerate thought to bring some to the surface so that people can have the great honour of being able to own a specimen of this for themselves and being able to help the channel as well. Fantastic!
Beautiful field trip, nice reveal on the mines and the mineral black like trace, increasable creation of Gods handy work. Not mention the live demo drown setup.
Becoming a Rock Hound (as told to me by a tour driver in Ouray, CO). First take a bag of marbles and when you pick up a rock for your collection replace it with a marble from the bag. When you have lost all your marbles then you are a Rock Hound.
Neat stuff, Gly! I've been compiling MDRS and geological survey data from the '70s by the late, great Lee Perry on a fluorspar deposit that sits in a Precambrian schist outcrop in the foothills above where I live. This area was previously the shore of ancient Lake Bonneville. There is an 235' adit and above ground workings that did produce ore in the '50s. However comma it's close proximity to urban development, steep terrain, and lack of water made the moiling required to extract more ore economically and environmentally impractical and the mine was closed. I understand that there are still good samples to be found in the above ground cuts, and I'm planning a hike to see if I can't extract a bit. As always, thanks for letting me tag along on your explores from the safety of the innernettes.
Wow, I didn't realize fluorite glowed such a beautiful color! Almost as nice as chrysocolla! That one section where you showed the first rock you found looked like a bunch of stars in the sky! Way cool!

You should get a Raytector 5 or Superbright II UV light. Use only short wave bulbs as 90% of all fluorescent minerals glow under short UV. Never use long/short UV together as it is often the case that 1) the long UV source is not as efficient as the short and puts out enough visible light as well as long UV to wash out some/most of the glow from minerals reacting to short UV. A Raytector 5 or Superbright 2 will cast 20-30 feet as well and light up the whole wall not just a spot on it.

Incidentally, the green fluorescence is from "Willamite". Willemite is a zinc silicate mineral and a minor ore of zinc. It is highly fluorescent (green) under shortwave ultraviolet light. I have quite a bit at my claim near the old Scott Mine in Maricopa County in the Belmont mountains. There is also a bit of calcite there that fluoresces orange in longwave UV.
“Gly”: I’m going to try to get over there one of these days and take a look at the Scott mine. I probably won’t be documenting it but I’m curious in taking a look at it.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces It's not much since some predatory kids caught the squareset and cover on fire in a night of drunken debauchery. It's almost all collapsed down to the 70ft level. There is, however, a well preserved shaft with drifts within 3 miles that would be fun to view and explore. Bring ropes. I do have pictures of the bottom of the Scott where the collapse choked the shaft. Let me know if you are interested. I plan on being there in February.
These minerals are used in dyes and also in the chemicals for the manufacture of chemical lights/glow sticks , some of these ores can have radioactive minerals in them as well
A shaft like that last one seems like a good place to scout with your 360° cam. Not only is the complete coverage useful for assessing hazards or admiring the craftsmanship (and reflecting on the relentless march of entropy), I was thinking it might be more immersive for the viewers to have some virtual freedom to look around as we're descending into the caliginous abyss.
Hi Gly, wow seeing that Fluorite light up was very cool, when are you and Frank going to do another video together ?? it was really fun watching you two the last time. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
On the subject of drones; you don’t need to explain, everyone will love the end result. A friend of mine related how in the early 1990s, he used to fly his gas powered R/C helicopter without GPS and without a tablet viewer for his real estate and remodeling business.

I thought maybe is was #180 on my channel? but maybe you posted this one on your channel as we were taking turns posting mines we explored together. The Castle Dome area has some real cool fluorite I have some of them in my museum.

Here in UK/GB we have Flourite deposits in Derbyshire . I remember going on Long Weekend Field Trips to Quarries an a few caves . We visited one Flourite mine in Castleton . But here the crystals don't look as pale and mixed up as that . Yes the Flourite has been used for jewelry but also giant Vases and other household items . We call it Blue John here . I remember we the Ravensbourne Geological Society went to one Quarry and all the trip we had little luck finding Flourite , except in it's small Blue/Purple cubic form within pink Baryte , evenly distributed within . Eventualy somebody found a vein of Blue John in the quarry face . But nobody could reach it . Me being the youngest and 6ft 2 1/2 tall . I was the one to Prod the vein with a rather long and big Screwdriver 🪛 Eventualy we all got a piece . I have quite a lot of Flourite chunks , but my UV lamp 🔦 won't flouresce it . So i'm guessing Mt Dog Piss highlighter is UVA and not UVB 😆 But it still works on some minerals in my collection . . Another great Video Gly Coolness . Especially to see sooo much of the stuff underground in the dark glowing away nicely like that . =^_~=
Little Tip for the Mavic Mini (the old one, i have the same one), don't turn it on inside your car or while its sitting on a metal object because the compass throws a fit .... mine usually doesnt ask for calibration when i turn it on on the ground.
“Gly”: Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic are just a few examples. How do you think the content within these platforms are funded? Equipment, fuel, wear and tear on vehicles all has a price. Your comment would be justified if the money gained by a few rock specimens sold on my eBay site was going in my pocket for personal use but it’s not. All proceeds go directly back into the channel and that’s why my channel’s production looks so much different compared to others on RUclips. So when you see camera shots from multiple angles, sweeping drone footage to establish locations and customized rigging capturing areas of abandoned mines that have never been seen before know that the money obtained to accomplish that was done with the help of a few rock specimen sales here and there but certainly NOT in every video. Right now the channel is saving up for a new drone that’ll offer stunning aerial visuals of large Nevada mines this coming summer and I’m sure when you see that footage you’ll enjoy it. But if you want to unsubscribe, that’s perfectly fine, because in this world where everyone seems to expect something for nothing it doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Wow , nice find Gly..looks great on the big screen. Had to laugh, Frank's butt crack I think we all have seen that a few times now 😂. See you next week... Pete Australia 🇳🇿
How to Drone 1.01 by Gly Coolness. Haha. Boy that mineral is so cool looking with that UV light. I bet it looks even more impressive in person. Time to go back to the 70s and pull out the blacklights and velvet posters and look at these minerals. Haha Very nice video Gly. I hope you do the torpedo in that last mine you checked out. That would be cool. I have subscribed to your other channel so I am looking forward to see what you offer there. BTW, 144 subs, your channel is growing nicely.

Great editing work on the 360s again. I much prefer a director's choice of which way we're looking to the full always-360° kind you have to drag around on the screen to watch - I usually watch on phone or tablet screen nicely propped up, I don't want to be swiping around all the damn time. XD

I was the one to Prod the vein with a rather long and big Screwdriver 🪛
Eventualy we all got a piece .
I have quite a lot of Flourite chunks , but my UV lamp 🔦 won't flouresce it . So i'm guessing Mt Dog Piss highlighter is UVA and not UVB
😆
But it still works on some minerals in my collection .
.
Another great Video Gly Coolness . Especially to see sooo much of the stuff underground in the dark glowing away nicely like that .
=^_~=
Love this channel keep up the great work love from Lincolnshire England
9:16 gives you a new perspective on how Gly looks with the ear-wax cam 😂😂
Your videos are very relaxing 😌 😎 been watching and a big fan since early last year. Wish I could explore a mine one time 👍
Little Tip for the Mavic Mini (the old one, i have the same one), don't turn it on inside your car or while its sitting on a metal object because the compass throws a fit .... mine usually doesnt ask for calibration when i turn it on on the ground.
This is becoming a commercial for your website. I don’t know how much longer I’ll stay subbed if this keeps up.
Neat episode, wanted to let you know I'm really enjoying my second coffee cup ☕ seeing how I dropped and broke my first one 😅
I like the clip at the end about the drone.
Another great video Gly. Nice choice on the music!
Gly, that mine looks mighty dangerous. I wouldn’t go in it. Stay safe!
Thanks Gly really enjoyed this exploration. Love fluorite. I’ll see you on eBay.
You get more and more funny looking the more GoPros you get.
“Gly”: I know huh?! Wait until I shoot myself out of a cannon!
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces LOL...I am waiting for you to have about 10 more cameras...attached.

“Go down and bang the vane and get ya the real deal” lol
Nice explore again, and thought a drone was plug and play pfft lol.
That fluorite was spectacular! That second mine was too sketchy to do alone.
You should give us a video tour of Old Bob with the new upgrades!
Can't wait for your new youtube! "It's my youtube and I want it now!'" 🤪😜
Loved the episode! Going to head over to your eBay site now! Thank you for all that you do! Stay well and safe!❤️
Just subscribed to the new channel Gly.
thanks man. looks amazing
Hey Gly , maybe next time instead of the BFH you should bring a cordless impact drill and drill it out . Just my opinion .
Thank you gly for bringing all the great videos for us to watch and if you can get me a order for your tee shirt with a pocket i want 3 of them. Thanks for sharing
You mentioned how the mines are warmer in Arizona; what are the approximate temps down there? Thanks for the great videos and say "hi" to Mr. M when you see him.
“Gly”: It was at least in the high 70’s (Fahrenheit) at that level.
Pause at 9:16 I'm sorry Gly but this shot had me on the ground lol
“Gly”: That’s “Funhouse Mirror Gly!” If you think that’s funny just wait until I have a booger hanging from my nose. 😂
Beautiful 👍🏻
Great editing work on the 360s again. I much prefer a director's choice of which way we're looking to the full always-360° kind you have to drag around on the screen to watch - I usually watch on phone or tablet screen nicely propped up, I don't want to be swiping around all the damn time. XD
Any drone, is better than having to carry a huge long ladder to get the aerial shots. Or hiring a sky hook.!
Great new show.
“Gly”: Very true!
