Why is Gazprom Investing in Football?

  • Gazprom’s reasons for investing so heavily in sport could be compared to any global organisation - it’s a fantastic means of advertising. But when it comes to this question, the fact that they are majority state owned should, and inevitably does, lead to greater scrutiny of their motivations.

      With the way this was spun, highly unlikely.
      This is also a company giving back to the community and building the youth programs for the future. They should invest more in hockey where russia is a super power and pre 2018, it was on par with football in popularity. But they will make more global connections with football, admittedly. But id rather be 1st in something, not just above average in something else.
      No company really does this in the USA, and obviously no support from the state. So we use Canadian infrastructure and leagues for elite hockey development (northern colleges produce good players too tho), but the football youth system is almost non existent. There are a handful of good college teams like north Carolina, they don't have much competition. Not good for a youngster. Seattle produced DeAndre yedlin, an underrated player. But these are not common. I think MLS itself is the minor league for Europe. But as good as a minor league can get, good players are starting to come still in their prime. Giovinco and Vela come to mind.

    Tifo, more recently, I have begun to feel more guilty about not paying anything for these excellent videos. I am someone of limited means who doesnt pay for my news generally but I really hope you guys stay viable for as long as possible. I was singing your praises recently to my brother who is a fledgeling journalist, and he bemoaned the precarious position of top quality journalism in relation to advertising/funding etc. Im pretty ignorant of how all of it works and what the reality of your situation is but I appreciate the content all the same. Chelsea were 1st spend big spenders in new era of unsavory owners to change football with trully massive wages, then all kinds of arab wealth funds used it to advertise their wares. It has proved great for players wages and player power.

    There is another reason they blow this money on sport. The fact that so much money is concentrated in such few hands is controversial in Russia (and everywhere). People are aware that the state companies from the soviet era that ended up being own by a few oligarchs was originally “their” property in many respects. This is not unjust as they really were owned by the soviet people. So being a billionaire is a little precarious because at any time you might get yourselves a mutiny/revolution of some sort. Billionaires know that to protect most of your money you have to be seen to be giving some of it away to good causes. Abramovich did this by spending his money where it would be noticed most. It would have no impact in western Russia so he spent a bit in the Far East on a region where he would look good for relatively little.

  • @andrew7taylor
    @andrew7taylor 6 лет назад

    Gazprom being state owned isn't the problem. You wouldn't fear TV Espanola's or PBS' ambitions of world dominance, would you?
    The problem is them being Russian AND state owned. For hundreds of years now, they've been too motivated to lead the world despite the average Russian subject having a short, dirt poor, unhappy life. So they need to force other people into that shit.
    On top of that, Putin is a KGB officer highly trained in psychological warfare and undoubtedly having antisocial personality disorder. There is always an ulterior motive for him, but it's very simple: always more power for him, more poverty and unhappiness for everyone else.

    There is really no such thing as a football "fan" just a bunch of idiots who will let anything happen including the destruction of the game they supposedly love from the inside as long as they have something to gawk at whenever they feel in the mood? If so I whole heartedly agree.
    The modern football fan is as big a danger to the game as the crooks who are buying their way into it. They have a choice, turn your back on it or you won't have a sport worth watching. That's almost the case now.

    Автор решил хайпануть на ненависти к России. Неделю назад придумывал бред, как Саввиди приехал в Грецию, чтобы развалить НАТО, теперь общепозновательное видео о Газпроме, и автору повезло, что тема хоть как-то связана с футболом, и так он может оправдаться. Хотя на самом деле я не вижу, почему эта тема должна интересовать зарубежных любителей футбола, есть куча куда более занятных и преступных спонсоров в лигах Топ-5.
