The Kanyal circuit speed hike is a beautiful unexplored trek near Manali in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The trek is a day hike that can be done without the need of camping and carrying trekking accessories.

Kanyal circuit trek is one of the best hiking routes near the town of Manali. The diversity in the terrain is indeed impressive comprising of dense forest, farmlands and meadows. The hike is around 20 km long and has many side trails too. The gross elevation gain would be 1500 metre for the complete circuit.

The route starts from the water tank near the Dhungri village and goes all the way to the top of Kanyal village. The trail is wide and open. The same trail can be used as a MTB downhill cycling run also. There are no traces of garbage on the trail and the route is used only by the locals to carry wood from the forest.

The trek can help a beginner learn the skills of mapping and navigation. Since the trail is wide enough, this trail is perfect to develop a good sense of direction. One can learn how to navigate through dense canopy cover forest sections. The trek can be done throughout the year except for the months of winter (f there is lot of snow). We did the hike on 09th March 2021 and it was all dry because of very low snowfall this year.

I will be creating a playlist under the title "Day hikes near Manali" where you can know about all the lesser known trails present near the town of Manali. One can always add these places to their Manali trip so as to experience the wilderness around the valley.

I am working on a persona project under which I connect all the old trails on both sides of the Beas river and make a 300 km+ trekking circuit in the valley. I will be uploading all the videos on Creedaz so that the routes and info are freely available for the community.

Learn a bit of mapping and navigation so that you can hike confidently about routes of all such hikes. I run courses to teach people how can they become independent trekkers.

You can do few day hikes but it will be difficult to hike up to 3000 meters. Everything below that might still be accessible.
