Well done Stereophile - I am enjoying these videos with the reviewers! I love getting to know these generous people who share so much of their lives in these videos and the written pages of Stereophile. Thank You!
Thank you. Watching this put a smile to my face. At the end of the day it’s what you as a person enjoy and embrace. If it gives you pleasure then you have the right setup 👍
Lonely personality. I liked the way you show the analysis of your music.and how you listen to it, together with the type of equipment you use. Great video.
Great Job Stereophile and Jason. Love seeing the differences in set ups among the Stereophile people. You with no analogue it seems and Micheal Fremer Mr. Analogue Planet himself. You put it quite simply Jason, if it gives you joy than you got it right. Thanks for sharing your home.
Terrific video! Thanks for sharing a rather intimate view of your system and of your listening philosophy. It was beautiful to say the least and touched on aspects of the hobby (and then some) that I am experiencing first hand at a much lesser scale. You summarized all of those sentiments nicely.
The fact that one of JVS' interconnects cost more than our car and my entire main system and vinyl collection really puts this whole hobby in perspective.
The man is having a list of weights for various components for his adjustable amp stand and the list is on one of his burn in cd:s. Christopher Guest could just release this as is as his new movie.
Room appears to be well set up & of sufficient size, unlike some other reviewers out there. Some other reviewers are reviewing large speakers in tiny, cluttered rooms, and they still want you to respect their opinion.
This is lovely. Regardless of equipment (and snippy comments) I love the fact that he ends with the real point: enjoying the music. I’m working on building and tweaking a system that will cost less than 1/10th of Jason’s system and I know I will get just as much enjoyment. And I don’t begrudge ANYONE the cost of their system as long as they love the music it reproduces. The cost is nobody’s damn business.
I really liked what you said at the end, about letting music touch you and feel alive. I don't own hi end audio, but,i own 2 1980s technic turntables my mixer sound system and my vinyl ive owned since the 80s and it makes me feel happy when I indulge in it.yes, you are right ,ahhhhhhhhh.
All this just for great sound, whit much less expensive equipment you can enjoy music, button line is in joy of music in good music, not just in good sound. Thanks for sharing Mr.Jason.
Meh the old Infinity (Arnie nudell) kappa 9, do not confuse the series II with them, could be switched to operate BELOW 1 ohm...and that was in the 80ts. Most amps (decent ones) can handle that load now.
Great video. I bet that system sounds good. A question, though, are any of the modifications and system upgrades as effective as say interaural crosstalk noise cancellation a la Lexicon / Carver or later iterations?
Got to love your inability to identify if someone is being serious. I wonder what the pseudo science is behind the Styrofoam farms they have in Sicily that he mentions in the same sentence.
You would get a better soundstage if you have the speakers parallel to each other. Also let the speakers out into the room about 3ft or 4ft for sound testing.. Place the speakers slightly closed to each other too. You would be amazed at the results. Everyone seems to place the amps between the speakers and all the other components, move these to the rear out the way or to the side.
@Pete is never wrong You miss my point. We can listen to music through equipment or we cal listen to the equipment's performance without prioritising the music. Listen to how he expresses himself - it is not "my music sounds good represented by these speakers/amp/cd player/turntable", but the speakers/amp/cd player/turntable sounds good. There is a difference, and this difference is clear in where the emphasis is.
He could save about 25 minutes in this video and just show a snap shot of his price list breakdown showing the cost to manufacturers for a mediocre review, a good review, and excellent review, and the very costly - "lifts all veils with ruthless transparency" review. This is about as clear a demonstration of FRAUD as you are ever likely to encounter on RUclips.
You lost me at 7:50 when you start showcasing things like Neutralisers. On the other hands the world is much more boring if you dont believe in fairytales so sometimes I wished I knew less, then I would believe more.
Raymond Leggs You’ve never really lives music, then .. Everything makes a difference. All together, all the timings he has applied would make a monumental difference.
I wouldn't bother. The audio naysayers are just protecting their own life-choices by knocking other people's. It's like people staring through the window of an amazing restaurant and saying 'I wouldn't go in their anyway, the food is probably disgusting'.
No doubt his love of & joy from the music is genuine . But with probably more than $120k of stuff, he has no comfortable listening chair. His wires alone probably cost more than my ead preamp, ati amp, sch iit dac, OPPO 203 player, Yamaha avr and Thiel, bic, klipsch, psa sub 11.2 setup. Took me 35 years to learn, trade up, and accumulate my stuff and am fortunate to do so. Kinda feel sorry for him-he sits on stuff 1 level up from those 1930 stadium benches and his stuff is just not part of the real world the rest of us live in. I do not begrudge him his happiness just am amazed.
I watched the whole video & didn't see 1 thing that might affordably help improve my system or anyone else's system. Perhaps the point is to see a guy living his passion for music. And I do wonder how he earned the $120k for all that. Never realized writing for a stereo magazine could be that lucrative
@@file1man He didn't buy any of that stuff except maybe the speakers (and even then he probably got it at manufacturer's cost). Everything is almost certainly provided as long-term loan in return for his reviews in Stereophile.
Why don’t any of these professional reviewers have proper purpose-built listening environments? They could easily afford them for the price of all this snake oil...
They don't pay for the gear. It's provided on long-term loan in return for the reviews in Stereophile. JVS' listening environment is actually much better/more thoughtfully treated than any of the other editors.
Thank you for inviting us in to your listen room and then sharing your insight with us. Take care.
I love this series of showing different setups, it really is an awesome series
The quality of the videos is unreal!
What a lovely soul you are, wonderful.
Well done Stereophile - I am enjoying these videos with the reviewers! I love getting to know these generous people who share so much of their lives in these videos and the written pages of Stereophile. Thank You!
Me, too. It tells me which ones to avoid...
Thank you. Watching this put a smile to my face. At the end of the day it’s what you as a person enjoy and embrace. If it gives you pleasure then you have the right setup 👍
I just watching this video and amazed on how good the quality is, both video and audio recorded, although this was post 5 years ago 👍
Such a nice and inspiring video. A wonderful man. Thanks from a fellow Oaklander!
Thanks very, very much for this super interesting video, Jason. You're just brilliant!! I'll find more of your talks and writings.
Lonely personality. I liked the way you show the analysis of your music.and how you listen to it, together with the type of equipment you use. Great video.
It would be great for some of these audiophiles to do some blind tests with different setups. I think there might be some surprising results.
Sincere, thoughtful, and passionate. I'm going to reread his latest reviews.
That's the best hi end audio Styrofoam and living plastic I've ever seen.
I really enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your listening room and insight.
Thank you Jason for sharing this video. You do a great job of explaining the joy of great audio. Beautiful room. I bet it sounds wonderful.
Thank you sharing. I enjoyed the visit.
“Funny things happen to you when you are a whistler “
Great !
Thanks for showing and talking about your musical interests.
Wonderful walk through. Love your listening room.

Love to see this kind of videos, please keep on going Stereophile!
Great seeing you again, Jason! Wonderful room you have! Best, Stephen.
Great vid. Hope you guys do more.
The fact that one of JVS' interconnects cost more than our car and my entire main system and vinyl collection really puts this whole hobby in perspective.
It’s a fine system no doubt however all a person really needs is a 1979 Yamaha CR 1020 receiver and a pair of klipsch heresy
Nice video Jason! Thanks for sharing.
WHAT?! No AIWA all-in-one FM/AM/CD/Cassette system?!
lmao
The man is having a list of weights for various components for his adjustable amp stand and the list is on one of his burn in cd:s. Christopher Guest could just release this as is as his new movie.
I remember Jason before all this and he was living on Steiner st in SF at Institute for Postural Integration. Long time ago.
Absolutely love Jason’s reviews!
Room appears to be well set up & of sufficient size, unlike some other reviewers out there. Some other reviewers are reviewing large speakers in tiny, cluttered rooms, and they still want you to respect their opinion.
What an interesting fellow. If only there were more music lovers like him.

nice systems he's the 2nd stereophile reviewer to use pass class A amps and 2nd to use wilson loud speakers cool i like to see the reviewers systems
"She's half Jack-Russel and half Ghetto and she loves to eat dirt". I love that sentence, it's rap!
"half ghetto" is a racist remark!
Thanks Jason for your presentation. Your whistling was superb! Wonder why no analog?
Love the room and your work
I really liked what you said at the end, about letting music touch you and feel alive. I don't own hi end audio, but,i own 2 1980s technic turntables my mixer sound system and my vinyl ive owned since the 80s and it makes me feel happy when I indulge in it.yes, you are right ,ahhhhhhhhh.
what did John Quick of dCS have to do with a hallway of CD's??
All this just for great sound, whit much less expensive equipment you can enjoy music, button line is in joy of music in good music, not just in good sound.
Thanks for sharing Mr.Jason.
Excellent - thanks
Sincere and honest confession. Highly respected !!!
Wish you'd play the system more for us. Believe it or not we can get a sense of how it sounds even through the cam mic... :)
Love it! Although the amount of snakeoil is hard to muster!
Everything matters in this hobby (unfortunately). Styrofoam is a joke, you know he was kidding, right?
What a trip! I'm dropping this hobby before I turn into him.
He is a world class professional whistler, you know. That' surely says something....
Jason thanks for sharing! I didn’t notice a pre-amp anywhere? Also no turntable (are you punishing Fremer?]
Nice setup bro. Got my 2.1 Logitech Z313 System here, 65 bucks, pretty happy with it: hope one day soon you make a review. Peace bro.
$50,000+ in power and speaker cables/interconnects -- carrying power from a $1.50 outlet and a house wired with $0.25/foot Romex 14/2.
I love this guy
Can you provide a link to the music sample at 13:30? I wasn't able to find that exact recording.
What a lovely bloke
Excellent video. You can block callers easily on your iPhone.
The system sounds outstanding!
Nice setup you have there.
You're a fine Whistler Jason, very fine. Thanks for the personal video
A nutter in the best sense of the word because he enjoys himself.
Lovely Lovely Lovely walk through
Meh the old Infinity (Arnie nudell) kappa 9, do not confuse the series II with them, could be switched to operate BELOW 1 ohm...and that was in the 80ts. Most amps (decent ones) can handle that load now.
spot on..nice
As long as we enjoy our own systems that’s al we need
Great video. I bet that system sounds good. A question, though, are any of the modifications and system upgrades as effective as say interaural crosstalk noise cancellation a la Lexicon / Carver or later iterations?
I think he is playing Lux Aurumque - Eric Whitacre, Widor: Toccata in F major
With all the sound absorbing albums, shelving, and wood sound absorbing ceiling, there isn't that much brick exposed,
I like this guy. 24:39 that's it, nothing more to say about it.
"styrofoam block handcrafted in sicily" got to love the pseudo science behind it all..
it was a joke i think haha
Got to love your inability to identify if someone is being serious. I wonder what the pseudo science is behind the Styrofoam farms they have in Sicily that he mentions in the same sentence.
Bravo 👏
I love the minimalist aesthetic🤑
What are the room dimensions? Thank you.
My comment below was meant for the previous sound room.
What a sweet guy!
Whats the name of the Widor piece ? It got me..... thanks...
He's serious about the styrofoam blocks? What does that do?
As soon as the camera is shut down out comes the Disco Inferno compilation .
That is one SERIOUS audiophile!
BTW, doesn't Bruce Jenner have those same earrings?
I think i like the record crates in the background, What are they? :)
My hearing is improved with yarndi but I cannot remember what was played

He would get better soundstage with something other than Wilson audio speakers
Raymond Leggs hahahah
Raymond Leggs They still have better soundstage than my Klipsch KG4s, right?
great film :)
ah man handcrafted Styrofoam blocks from Italy, how exquisite
How do nordost oden sound?
I get an impression that he is listening to his equipment foremost and only then the music.
@Pete is never wrong You miss my point. We can listen to music through equipment or we cal listen to the equipment's performance without prioritising the music. I've been always thinking Pass Labs are among the sweetest sounding solid state amps. They are good sounding but not neutral in my opinion.

No electrical spur?
great gentleman
Brian bromberg 🎶👌

I love dogs and audio too :)
Your face when you listen to the music is the same face I make lol
Wait until he hears Quasar.
Every person who listens to music is a critic.
anybody who takes in dogs like that is aces with me.
I bet 90% of these clocks and tweaks make no difference.

Kurt Vile is so good.
how does trap music sound on that? i bet it's next level
wow, too much
bravissimo
Great high end system!
MY interpretation only , don't worry.
different intelligences, different perceptions
I have never been so bored in my life. I will go and listen to a Ceedee now.
