I looked around and after much consideration i went for the hero 5 black, spent a week or so testing it out for what I intend to use it for that is mountain biking. I did various tests and i came up with the following settings that seem to work well. Resolution 2-7K '30FPS in superview, flat profile in protune, kelvin scale for WB, ISO at 400, auto shutter speed, EV comp adjusted for the conditions, sharp low and audio high. I use those settings for on bike footage taken from a chest mount, however for "B" roll stuff where I wanna slow it down i use 1080p @240 FPS in wide view. I did some tests adding this to a 2-7K timeline in my editor and i slowed it down and speed ramped it down to 25% and it works brilliantly!! I turn off GPS and I do not pair it with my phone, I have LEDs all off, i do use voice commands, auto off is set to never, screensaver is turned off, video format is set to NTSC (despite being in a PAL region) I colour correct using DaVinci resolve and it works great. I shot in 2-7K but downsampled it to 1080p on the video output and it looks just great!! In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. Most people want to shoot at 4/5 K with a high FPS with very little proper ventilation. for extended amounts of time DO NOT DO THIS!!!! If you purchase this camera make sure you buy a PROPER SD CARD i use a Sandisk 128 GbV30 u3 A2 and i have no issues with freezing or overheating at all. I also purchased a couple of extra batteries complete with a charger via USB (Artman from amazon) Do not use this for talking heads vlogging at 4K and the highest FPS it will overheat !! I thoroughly recommend this camera i got mine down at MPB in the UK great value at around £150 i bought a chest mount and mounting case and it all works perfectly
I'm having quit a few freezes and other problems with my Hero 5. So far, my Yi 4k has been my go to action camera. I basically use my Hero 5 for anything with water. The only good thing is I don't need an extra housing unit.

I bought this camera on 2016 boxing day which was attracted by a description on best buy website "night vision". However there is no night vision option on this camera. I purchased a memory card to use it on Hero 5 Black, according to the description given on the gopro website. Unfortunately card stop working after 17 minites continuous shooting. I noticed following defects on Hero 5 back which are given below 1. Lens portion of camera is heating up after 15 minits continuous shooting. 2.There is no good video quality for 4k video (my canon 6D have better quality on 1920*1080 video shooting than Gopro) 3. Misleading information on remaining battery charge information. 4. camera stop working after exactly 17 minits shooting..
I've waited for your review on the Hero 5. Again a great video! I'm using a Hero 3 and 3+ black for motovlogging and I've never had the need to change settings on the fly. Therefore I couldn't care for a touchscreen. Only drains the battery.
No I haven't experienced that problem. The 3 does require more lighting than the 3+ and the 4 though. When you film in low light conditions the 3 can be a bit shitty.

MY PENTAX HAS A SQUARE RECHARGEABLE ALONG WITH AN ADAPTER TO LOAD 4 "AA" BATTERIES. THIS IS A BIG DEAL WHEN NEED TO TAKE PHOTOS AN YOU'RE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH A DUD BATTERY THAT DOESN'T FIT ANYTHING ELSE OR ANY OTHER MODLE. I WILL KEEP THIS HERO 5 BLACK AND I'LL HAVE TO GO SHOPPING FOR THE 10 MORE CAMERAS THAT I NEED FOR NEXT SPRING BUT I DOUBT IF THEY'LL BE GOPRO'S.

Yi 2 4K still better dollar per dollar to gopro hero5 black coz cheaper by half but very high quality images and video. gopro hero5 better coz no housing required for recording under water

Did anyone noticed the issue when you try to record when the usb port is open? The audio gets really muffled and pretty much unusable.

MotoCamel I have the hero 3 black as well and find footage extremely grainy. Do you have that problem at all?
No I haven't experienced that problem. The 3 does require more lighting than the 3+ and the 4 though. When you film in low light conditions the 3 can be a bit shitty.
