    The issues I have with this otherwise excellent video are first that it neither finds nor discusses the symptoms of the failing transmission. Second, it doesn’t find anything wrong on disassembly of the transmission, so we learn nothing about the cause of the transmission failure. Please supply those two bits of information in your reply.
    Thanks.

    This is the best most detailed transmission video I’ve seen in my entire life. Wow, you guys are amazing. I’d never do this job even being an ex mechanic so this video shows why things cost what they do and the experience they are paying for. Excellent info all around. Thank you for this.

    Fabian's expertise with CVT is unmatched. He took the time to take my call while in the middle of his parts replenishment run and helped me get pointed in the right direction. Amazing service and the ability to get you the parts you need to fix your CVT the first time! Can't thank you enough for your time Fabian!!

    I could maybe re-assemble a manual transmission, but these are at another level. They are both a simple concept in a way, but still incredibly complex. Very knowledgeable guys.

    For those who are wondering, "loctite" as suggested in the video is an adhesive/sealer, but the specific variety for transmissions and you will be fine. I followed this video and rebuilt a used CVT transmission from a Nissan Sylphy (Asian variant of the Sentra) successfully. Thanks much for the detailed steps in the video!

    These guys are great! My Dad has been working on my 09 Volkswagon Rabbit all summer and ran into a problem where he didn't know if he had the right valve body. After calling around with no help all day he finally got ahold of Sunbelt and they were helpful, patient and informative about the specific problem he was having. Thank you guys!

When he explained what I needed to know I had more faith in him than my cardiologist. He even called me a few days later to check on my progress! He's my favorite celebrity. Thank you Bro, grateful to U.

    I think the biggest problem is that Jatco engineers designed them to work purely as CVT's with the steadily increasing ratios but the Nissan engineers decided to put in fake shift points to make people think they are like regular transmissions. The sudden jerking load on the center shaft damages the three splines and the ball bearings. When that goes, it takes the belt with it.

      Trust me you could if you wanted to. I was in automotive trade school in the 90s, and I remember doing a standard trans on a 86 Cadillac Fleetwood, that had no reverse. I was on a five man team, and we fixed it. Only did it once in my lifetime, but still cant believe we did it till this day.

    I have been working on cars for 5 decades as a hobby. I have always driven manual transmissions, ever since my "67 Malibu SS 396 days.
    My impression after viewing this: (1) Great video, thanks for uploading it. (2) I don't like all of these electronic sensors and electric switches inside and on the transmission. My current manual is smooth as silk, and it is only gears, bearings, and fluid. No cooler needed, no vacuum line connections, no codes to interpret, etc. (3) After you drive a manual trans for awhile, you will never go back to a CVT or a traditional AT.

    • @infiniteblaz3416
      @infiniteblaz3416 4 года назад +1

      bboucharde DCTs are replacing the manuals now due to being quicker in performance and silkier shifting. Shift times are in milliseconds, way faster than any manual. Koenigsegg is currently working on a transmission that shift even faster now. Wouldn’t go back to a manual if you want to outrun people or hit faster lap times.

    • @777jones

      Jolted Cosmos manual is still more repairable and durable. When the car is in the yard at 101,000 miles, economically destroyed, a couple of tenths of a second 0-60 don’t matter at all. Actually they never did.

    • @infiniteblaz3416
      @infiniteblaz3416 4 года назад +1

      777jones No it’s not by modern standards. Lol. Almost any transmission is repairable depending on how it’s built regardless of type. Not sure where you guys be getting your facts from.

      Jolted Cosmos do me a favor. Compare used Maserati or Ferrari prices, sequential versus manual. You will see the manual is more valued by collectors - because it sucks so much less.

    There are so many intricately shaped parts within this single component. It's honestly drool inducing to see them all... That sounds a little wrong, heh.
    At any rate, this video would make great reference material for anyone drawing anything mechanical. Especially the CVT belt, that's a very curiously designed part.

      I sold my 1.8L Versa S years ago, even tho it had a regular 4 speed automatic, but now I see ppl selling their Versas for peanuts, as the SL models came with the CVT. Since Nissan merged with Renault, their quality has gone down the drain.
      I am old enough to remember when the Nissan Maxima became Family sports sedan of the year, in the 90-es, it was so good. Nissan should go back to it's rutes and start making reliable cars again. Mazda has gone thru this crap with the Ford merger and since they distanced themselves from Ford, Their vehicle quality came back, up.

      @@GiardintekFord had a controlling interest in Mazda from the 70's until 2008 their quality was great until the early 2000's then they had to compete with the lower tier japanese car makers like Mitsubishi and at that time Subaru even Honda's quality dipped in the early 2000's

    Nice to see men who know what they are doing at work. I have a Jatco CVT and I am at 60.000 miles now. No problems yet. Impressive how complicated it is. Yet so simple. Tear apart is only half an hour. May a rebuilt do twice as long. Uninstalling and installing maybe 3 hours and relearning half an hour. So you wonder why a rebuild is so expensive??

    HI Sunlink, my 2014 nissan SV versa cvt does not like to change down when going up hills, rev's up to 3-4000 rpm and generally only changes down when I back off the gas, sometimes with a small clunk, other times just a bit hard. Drives on the hwy nice, on the flat a bit sticky but not as bad as going up hills. I added an oil cooler and drained the fluid twice and it is a bit better but do I keep changing fluid until it smooth's out or is it a sign a gear ring is worn? need filter clean? or maybe speed sensors are not functioning properly? not sure what to do next- lmk mahalo!

      Well, I have wondered how Nissan pulled off a CVT without the reliability issues involving a sheave pulley,,, and while that is cool looking belt technology,,, it clearly ain't for much more than an engineering excersize. That thing would need to be way up sized to have any kind of respectable service life.
      What are these things getting on them in miles before they are failing?

    Hi,
    I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot and after the Transmission temp was on I drove it about 10 miles and then let it cool down about 2 hours and drove about 200 miles the transmission speed with the car speedometer reading did not match and now when I get to the stop light it does not accelerate as suppose to and I have changed the transmission filter and the cooler filter and put a new oil. It got a little better, but the message is P0842 with slippage and lack of power. Do you think replacing the valve body will fix the problem? What do you think is the problem? Thanks for your help.

    Yes that's how complicated cvt gear is ..even though all clutch linings are good when we put it back all part ,theres a problem occured on it sometimes sudden shifting occured ..i think solenoid valve malfunction ..this kind of cvt transmission really confusing me..its not easy to repair.. i prefer to repair ordinary automatic transmission instead this cvt gear..thanks for sharing this video my friend..

    Have you had to replace the Tom module for DTC code p0845? On the scan tool primary pressure shows zero volts at all times. If I induce 12 volts to the correct wire, scan tool will show 5 volts. Have tripled check my wiring and all ok! There is a technician service bulletin for the programming! We installed a known good trans and still the same problem! Please help

    When you buy a subassembly online, is it necessary to use a digital caliper and measure the case depth to define the correct size snap ring to fit? Does this really matter? The bulletin has so many special tools that I don’t see anybody even using on these rebuilts.

    Damn he's so blase throughout the entire teardown. Like he's somehow hypnotizing viewers, to flock to him, eager to pay their invoices without batting an eye lash.
    Couple of snake charmers, is what they remind me of 😂
