This is super helpful. Great, great job. As simple as this may sound, I was overwhelmed when I opened OBS and didn't know what a scene was. So this was perfect.
an added layer of complexity, could be to have your midi keyboard inputting to a daw interface, using a vsti grand piano and a nice condenser mic and use the Reastream plugin in obs to have all your audio running through ur daw..studio quality audio. I've just spent the evening watching vids about this..now I'm an expert haha..so going to try this myself. thanks the info
Really awesome!!! I’ll try to do that... I was thinking about using ecamm, but I don’t think it’s possible to crop the video and see only the keyboard on ecamm.. so obs is gonna suit much better... thank you so much
From my research, It seems like you have to add some latency to whatever is behind to match up. Otherwise you it seems you can't get rid of the latency. Unless you learned another way around it...
I am new to teaching online music lessons. Do we need to set this up every single time, or will they all be saved for the following lesson? Plus, I need to show the page of the lesson book we are working on for that days lesson. How do I show that in this? Thanks!
I only use OBS for video and select my audio interface directly in Zoom. However, you add audio sources the same way you add video sources. Add the audio source(s) you want to the scenes you're using and they should appear in the audio mixer for recording.
Hi, nice tutorial. Thanks!. I was wondering can’t you just share screen on zoom instead of using the plugin you mentioned? Is there a benefit to the plug-in?
The biggest benefit is being able to have two cameras on the screen at the same time - showing both my face and the keyboard or iPad screen at the same time. I also like the easy, fast switching of views with the ScreenDeck app.
After hours and hours I finally have my setup like yours. Yeah! My last final problem is I can't get StreamDeck to work. I'm using Windows II with my iphone. Any suggestions? The forums have been no help! Many thanks.
If I can teach enharmonic concepts to five years olds I can learn how to use tech. ;) You’re video was direct and to the point. The information has not changed drastically since this came out_ with the rate of tech changing the interface. Most was still available. I do look forward to using this method to help step up my video game! Mahalo Ps_ would you suggest a program that show what chords and notation is being played on screen with a simple interface? Mahalo
I've used both Midiculous and Classroom Maestro to display notation on the screen. (Or if I need to write something, I made a staff PDF that I can write on using whiteboard or forScore.)
Thank you very much, Jason, this is so helpfull! Can you tell mus how to connect sound of the keyboard? I should work with a midi app called "Minigrand" from Maudio( i 'have a Maudio Hammer 88 pro connected to Minigrand. Thanks so much for your answer!
I've never used OBS to handle the audio routing. I think it's possible; I've just always used Voicemeter instead and routed things through a virtual audio cable. In Voicemeter, you'd assign Minigrand and your Microphone to two of the inputs, route both to a virtual audio cable that you send to the Zoom feed. (You'd also need to route the Zoom call to your interface on a different channel I think, but I'm not exactly sure what the best way would be to avoid echo/feedback. It would take a bit of experimentation.) Sorry I can't be more helpful. You might also do a search for OBS audio routing. I think there are some decent tutorials out there. (Most of the tutorials are for gamers, but you'd basically just follow their instructions, substituting the Minigrand app for the game audio.)
There's always a little blur since Zoom reduces the resolution a bit for streaming. It just depends on your bandwidth. Better internet connections won't be reduced as much, but it always loses a little bit.
Hello. Thank you very much for the video!!!! When I tried to use OBS on Zoom, I noticed some audio/video latency, that I don't see when I just use a single webcam directly selected on Zoom. How did you solve this issue? Thank you in advance.
Hi Jason, I'm back... Um! I need your opinion please. My OBS screen is me (C910) top left with Logo. Top Right is a Chordie Dbl stave and Chord description. The C922 overhead looks down at my kyb which one sees at the bottom of the screen and just above is the Chordie or Midiculous Kyb. I have the Ivory Yamaha C7 in the background which provides the sound. Now...when I play a note on the Kyb... the image of the kyb on screen is late and the Chordie is over a second later and sometimes more and when it arrives in Zoom it is worse. This delay is unacceptable as the student hears me play but like me sees the picture of my hands playing way after the audio. Any suggestions pls?
I remember seeing a tutorial video somewhere and they talked about adding delay to certain sources so that they all sync up, but I can't remember which video it was. Maybe search for sync or adding delay to sources in OBS? I also had some delay in something I tried but just ended up not using that scene.
Great video I really appreciate it! I'm new to OBS and want it for Zoom too. I've just installed it today for the first time and there's already a "Start Virtual Camera" button in there by default. So I guess I don't need to install a seperate add in??
I don't use OBS for audio. I just run the sound through my audio interface and select that in Zoom. That said, if you're streaming or needing to run virtual audio routing, you can add audio sources in OBS scenes the same way you add a video source. (I haven't done this, but there are several audio tutorials for OBS on RUclips.) It also depends on how you're getting the sound from your piano into your computer. Some people just let their vocal mic pick it up, others have a dedicated piano mic, others use an electronic keyboard and run it through an interface, etc...
Are you using the computer camera for the front view scene?? And also are u using a different camera for the overhead view?? Are all the cameras, if the are more than one, connected to the computer?? If yes please which cable do you use??? I'd really appreciate your reply
The cameras are all webcams connected to the computer through USB. (This video was made with a Logitech C920. I've since upgraded to an Elgato Facecam.)
Hello. Thank you for sharing this!! I tried what you did and mine worked out great and video looks good to me but so bad to my student. for them it's very blurry. I am wondering have you ran into the same issue before and how did you fix it. Thanks!!
If the video is okay for you but blurry for your student, then it's probably because your student's internet connection is weak. Zoom automatically reduces the video quality when a person's connection isn't very good.
Hi I’m going nuts trying to figure out things for my online piano lessons 😳... I bought classroom maestro but when I choose obs window capture it doesn’t see it to let me select it ...any advice would be appreciated . I feel I am paying so much for my lesson and the teacher can’t really see what I’m doing with just zoom on my Mac ..
I remember having to try a few different settings to get Classroom Maestro to show up. Also make sure Classroom Maestro is running and the window is on screen when you set it up. I think OBS has trouble seeing apps when they're minimized sometimes.
@@jsifford Thx, all I have is 4 x C170's , they work but I can't get my 88 note kyb in full view, I've seen a C922 and others on Amazon which would set the pocket on fire. Any suggestions? Thx. Keith

@@KeithHutchinsonYT The C920 is the only one I've tried. I do have to put it near the ceiling to get the keyboard in view, but it works okay. As for the C922, it should work pretty much the same. Not sure how much cheaper a good webcam can get, though. (I see C922s for around $80 online.)

Dude... You almost made me cry. It's amazing what you've done here.
Just amazing! Just thank you for sharing your hard work!
Thank you for your kind heart and sharing this info with us all. Has really helped me. I appreciate you.

Webcam plugins are no longer necessary for OBS. They built it in a few versions ago, so you should see a button that says "Start Virtual Camera"
