How so? They go what they came for - got some useless land you can't even build factories on, but at least creates a buffer zone between the borders and your second largest city. I wouldn't call that losing, rather... a marginal victory.

That is what I am trying to tell. People keep talking like Talvisota was an utter defeat for the Soviets whereas the fact is that, in the end, the Soviets broke through Mannerheim line and USSR could easily march onwards to Helsinki since Finland was exhausted from the fight. However, Russians have completed their main goal - move the borders enough far away for Leningrad to be in a "safe zone".
The reason why called it a marginal victory is because game Hearts of Iron provides even greater goal - conquering Finland and turning it into another socialistic republic. And it is not that something like that was considered by Stalin since right after the war began, an attempt was made to create a pro-Moscow puppet government on the seized territories.
Albert Veisman Demand a "safe zone" from the state with which the non-aggression pact and the recognition of national borders was concluded during Lenin's time, and which makes it clear that it is neutral - idiocy. Given the provocations of the NKVD and pre-war propaganda, Findland would be occupied if it succumbed, as did the Baltic. Soviet scrued up at this so de-facto lose the war. Attacking finnish was a crime: they were offered a deal and they refused - so the councils had no right to deal. The Soviets did not go to Helsenki because of the huge losses, and disorganization in the command.

My favorite part of these videos is the war that gets waged in the comment section by people from Germany, Russia, UK, USA who have limited knowledge of any WW2 subject and just regurgitate everything their state-sponsored schools taught them. Then they all accuse each other of being ignorant or lacking knowledge, etc. That right there is the kicker because they all display little to no actual knowledge of the war and claim their own country won it by themselves.

Lithuania was friendly with Soviet Union because they gave lithuanians Vilnius back from Poland.
We were friendly because the government figured USSR wouldn't attack helpless countries (ridiculous). There is a saying in Lithuania of that time: "Vilnius mūsų, Lietuva rusų (Vilnius is ours, Lithuania is Russian)"
