I was blessed with meeting a couple that has a hotshot company and they took me under there wing until I could do it on my own, it's so true when you say , my money may not be someone else's money, I'm not here to be rich, I want to build a company , something I can pass on to my children if they choose so. do not let someone tell you that you can't do it, you can. it took me 2 years to get my 1st load, so don't give up just keep pushing and it will happen.

Folks said I was for buying a dually 2 yrs ago and just paid cash for my 40ft gooseneck in May. I’m switching from semi to hotshot but I have a plan…been had one for 12yrs. 😎
But it’s better than a factory job or customer service job as well Even if you make five net, it’s still better than most jobs. It’s basically a life changer. Most people don’t have a degree or any kind of technical or or have any type of skill to get paid that kind of money

You have a ton of wisdom! I am looking at non cdl hotshot. In position to succeed in that i was able to buy a truck in cash, and will buy trailer with cash, so i will have no truck or trailer payments which should give me an advantage. I dont have to make as much money as i used to need, so its opposite of your step up method, lol. I am just wanting to make enough money. My goal will be to use cash only, take advantage of depreciation to offset taxes, and grow to the point where i can hire drivers and just manage the business instead of have to drive. When i get there i will call it big enough and do that for 5 years, then sell the company/retire. You are wise, and i wish someone told me this 25-30 years ago- the goal of working isnt to acquire stuff- the goal of work is to get to a position where you can work less and retire as early as possible. Time is the only commodity you cannot buy or sell, when it is up it is up. Do you want to spend that time working or playing? Do the hard work early, buy real estate, play later. I didnt realize this until my dad died a few months ago. I am 48, willing to bust my ass for a few more years. Wish i would have done so earlier as i mentioned, but hey, its life. Cheers!

I owned my businesses for 40+ years. First one for ~7 then when corporate. Lasted 5 years and had to start my own again. Just not a corp. guy. Pretty much everything you said was spot on. Most business fail because of lack of commitment and putting in the time to learn from the failures as well as the successes. When you get knocked down; you gotta jump back up. I use to tell my employees that we are like farmers. We have good years of crops & bad ones. During the good ones invest in your equipment & put some in storage for the bad years. Too many spend like every year will be good and then when things turn they can't survive. business is cyclical. You have a great attitude; things will roll your way.

He’s been talking about hotshots and wants to put in a good 6 months of experience then give hotshots a try. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity for us as we decided to sell everything off, buy a 5th wheel and live full time traveling the country. My schedule will be completely flexible to match his and our ability to be 100% mobile will give us bigger opportunities to achieve complete financial independence and working for ourselves. I am $85k invested in Hot Shot and I start my Authority next week. I am coming off flatbed class A where most of my loads for the past 18 months could have been Hot Shot loads. It is cheaper to run a F350 with a 35' trailer over a Freightliner dragging a 53' trailer for a 30' load at 16.5 pounds.
I have everything but my 40'er, should be delivered by middle of next week. Didn't cost me much to start up. Probably $4,500 total. Got leased on through a friend!

Fantastic information, thank you. My hubs just started his trucking career with a company doing flatbed. He’s been talking about hotshots and wants to put in a good 6 months of experience then give hotshots a try. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity for us as we decided to sell everything off, buy a 5th wheel and live full time traveling the country. My schedule will be completely flexible to match his and our ability to be 100% mobile will give us bigger opportunities to achieve complete financial independence and working for ourselves. I am $85k invested in Hot Shot and I start my Authority next week. I am coming off flatbed class A where most of my loads for the past 18 months could have been Hot Shot loads. It is cheaper to run a F350 with a 35' trailer over a Freightliner dragging a 53' trailer for a 30' load at 16.5 pounds.
