    Ah..so finally someone gave information step by step on how to make idli batter, other videos don't say that it should be on sealing or venting mode..thanks Nidhi for sharing this video..take care

    Thank you for the step-by-step instructions, Nidhi! This was my first time making idli batter. I have made idlis using Gits packets a few times before. My batter looks good! I wish I could post my batter picture. I added 0.5 tsp salt into the whole instant pot at the end of the Instant pot cycle and then divided the batter into two airtight containers. I'll make idlis tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

    Thank you so much I did two things wrong while making this batter, the batter was too thick and I did not put it on venting. I looked at other videos. My batter did not ferment🥲. I will try this method and let you know.

    Hello! thank you for sharing this. Can you suggest good idli stand brand to buy? Is there any combination of plates which can be ideal for idlis, dhokla etc. ?
    Also, can we use whole urad dal with skin?

      Add some water in the inner pot , boil on low pressure for about 1 minute .Put the batter into the separate container and place the container in the instant pot . Switch off the instant pot and cover the lid. Try this method

    My entire batter got spoilt, I did yogurt option, high pressure, normal.... Venting, where did I go wrong, in 5 mins it became very hot and batter was a waste...

      It shud not be venting, it releases the pressure, u shud be saying sealing option, the way it is for yogurt and not venting

      You can skip it. Poha helps in having soft idlis and also usually when making idli or dosai from the batter at the base of the container its texture is not the same. When using this flat rice flakes or Poha it doesn’t change the texture or the taste. Hope it helps

    When I put it in steam mode, lot of steam comes out and whole counter gets wet. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Or, is there a need to adjust or make a correction to the pot? Thanks.

      Add some water in the inner pot , boil on low pressure for about 1 minute .Put the batter into the separate container and place the container in the instant pot . Switch off the instant pot and cover the lid. Try this method

      Nothing works once it is set on Yogurt mode except the + and - for time. Even my pressure is on Low mode. Am trying for first time

    Why do you have to soak/grind the rice and the dal separately?

      Rice is soft compared to lentils. If we mix soak together it's not grind properly.

    I set my pot on "high" and it boiled the batter and it was ruined, so I went to "custom mode" and set the temperature manually to 86 F or 30 C. the perfect temperature for fermenting idli batter. Your instructions to set the pot on high pressure is confusing or incorrect. I will not be using this recipe again ☹

    I have one more hack idea 😀 ,take a 60 watt old style bulb ,fix it in a holder ,conect long wire to holder , at the other end connect the 2 pin put the idli batter into the big container ,40-50 percent bigger than your idli bowl which you had to put in the container , now put that 60 watt bulb hanging into the container with the support of wire put under the lid ,with light pressure , put 500 weight on the lid so that wire stays there firmly with the press of lid bulb should be just at the top under the container , now put the pin into the socket , switch it on , and leave it over night , at the morning switch it off ,let the bulb cool down for 30 minutes ,then open the container , take out the bulb , now check it out if your dough is fermented or not ? 😀 👍 Cheapest jugaad it is .my original idea 😀🙏👍
