@@HalcyonEX It was referencing spellbound, a leak that was covered on this channel several times. Ngl i fell for it and thought that the game was confirmed.
I don't know if the developer is reading these comments but I have 1 major suggestion: I totally get the vibes you're going for. Classic, old-school 80s and 90s "wizardcore" or whatever you wanna call it. Absolutely love the direction. I think it could go even further. The color-grading and the overall tone still feels a tad bit reserved. I would lean much more heavily into the tone that you're going for. Look at Terry Pratchett's Discworld series covers illustrated by Josh Kirby and Paul Kidby for inspiration. I also belwieve the UI and HUD could be way more interesting looking. I'd totally sacrifice a modern aesthetic for something more complex and illustrative.
It seems very interesting. It does look like most of the assets used are mostly unedited and from various sources just mixed up together, which is to be expected as one person can only do so much. A lot of the assets remind me from other games and with the recent trend of games coming out with stolen assets getting deleted from steam after launch I hope this guy is legit and paid all the licenses he needed as the game looks like it has some promises
This is being worked on. I’ve helped bring in some new ideas in this regard such as spell crafting which will be something like a book you flip through now instead of just a menu
This is great. Thanks for the heads up Zio! Good on ya for branching out. I'd love to hear your takes on other franchises. I think its really good for your fans and for the channel overall. Keep up the great work!
this game looks right up my alley. for me, the exploration aspect is probably the single most important aspect. if the combat's not your typical dark souls formula but is fun in a different way, that's totally fine by me
i find it funny, while you were talking about how you kind felt bored at first the footage I was watching looked really fun - definitely keeping my eye on this one thanks
Mage knight or Spellsword is one of the funnest type builds. But playing as nothing but a mage? I mean Harry Potter was fun but I haven’t touched the game after beating it and didn’t Platinum.
@@OD91MJ Caster mains were excited when Spellbound was leaked, because it meant FromSoft was actually going to do more than a half-assed effort in improving Caster gameplay. Spellbound was the ONLY reason I overlooked the non-effort approach that Elden Ring Caster gameplay was, because having a new smaller IP take a hit on drastic changes than the big project made the lack of changes make sense.
What is the flexibility within the "mage" umbrella of builds, and what sort of advancement is there beyond spells? Do you get a melee attack? What sort of spell resources are there, or is it mainly a mana bar and recovery items?
Base spells of each class are essentially melee attacks(a short burst of energy for each element type with different effects), there are wide range of spells such as AoEs, ranged options, residual effects, etc. there is passive mana regen but it’s slow so it’s important to manage mana
@@Ziostorm Thanks, just occurred to me to ask if there are utility style spells or if they're mostly combat focused, and can any puzzles be solved using spells
I finally 100% Elden Ring. I beat the game last year but millennia was all that was just left and man it felt great beating her. I can’t wait for DLC !
The concept of this and the idea of fun meaningful exploration looks so cool. I can easily look past the bad graphics if there is a real sense of adventure under it all. Thanks for the tip towards this one
This looks pretty cool, while showing simplistic scenery (that may change as game develops). As a counter to this genre, I'd love to see a souls-like game that focused on ALL physical violence/damage, with absolutely no spells or magic and ONLY environmental remedies or shamanic herbal healing. Like if Assassin's Creed and Dark Souls had a baby that was hard and not cut and dried.
As someone who primary cannonballs into the magic side of things in souls games, and Elden Ring, I'm very interested in this. I think the art style is beautiful, it's not quite the same as Dark Souls 2, but it's close.
It's definitely jank right now, but the thing about jank early builds is that they often represent final game feel better than people expect (like Bayonetta's early animation tests, or the No More Heroes 3 prototype at the end of Travis Strikes Back), and the core here actually looks solid. I'll try to keep tabs on this.
I've never heard of this game, but I'm not joking when I say that just earlier today I was fantasizing about what it would be like if someone made a soulslike where you play as a mage and cannot use traditional melee weapons & combat. I'm a mage fanatic in pretty much every role playing game that I touch, so thanks for bringing this one to my attention.
Zio, i as an German, i dont need someone to explain me to love a game to propaganda. Please make vids you like and share with us without moneyinterest!
This is how I feel about bleak faith, the game has such a concrete vision that I get immersed in it despite the iffy visuals and the bugs it used to have.
Recently my build on Elden Ring has been very similar to this. Playing the reforged mod gives access to many of the DnD classes in the form of fortunes. While it's not a mage perse, playing as an artificer/ranger involves a lot of the things you've described. Honestly not a huge fan of Elden Rings magic combat on its own either so I usually end up doing something similar with a build. However dual cross bows + items and buff management makes for really interesting gameplay beyond just trying to get a stun on the enemy.
one thing is the UI looks a bit off, as a game dev myself i think this is the biggest mistake i try to avoid making, the UI always needs to match the overall saturation of the game also props to the developer for making such amazing environments while being solo! it gives me hope
I don't like how the arms stay still while you walk. Or how they snap to the run position. Looks like they just have 2 arm poses they're blending between.
If you like this game (even if its not technically the final product yet) might I advise playing "Kena: Bridge of Spirits"? It's not really a Souls-like but its a game where you play a magic-focused character and I actually really enjoyed it.
the premise looks really cool. What feels kinda weird for me is the inconsistent art direction (from what I can see). They went for a somewhat realistic assets mixed with cartoony objects. the staff feels like it doesn't belong on the setting. plus, the hud is very colorful and saturated whereas the rest of the game looks kinda muted in tone (even though some areas seems very vibrant at times. Overall, I think they should focus more on the atmosphere. everything looks super bright and bland. the game looks cool though. I like playing mage / battle mage a lot
Does Ziostorm have an opinion on the Bandai Namco vs Fromsoft situation? I believe Maximilian Dood briefly mentioned it in the first minute of his "Xbox.....Isn't Dead" video.
I've been wanting pure magic souls like style game like this. It looks very promising. Imagine if Unreal Engine 5 made it for the Sony and Xbox 😮 :) so cool! Love your content man, keep going! Salute, -JRoot
It reminds me of Mortal Shell tbh. Smaller indie take on the souls formula, but very rough around the edges but making up for that with buckets of charm. I also get the feeling the end product will kind of feel the same. Unable to keep up with its promise. Starting off great and puttering out to meh as the end game evolves and either your abilitys become overpowered or inadequate. But will be keeping an eye on this one cause ive been speculating on a pure magic souls game for a while. This isnt really what I envisioned but it stands as a pretty good stab at it. OTWT.
I’ve been really fascinated by it. Fairly generic: evil wizards have stolen the sacred grimoires. But the more I play the more interesting it gets. I’m sure there will be some twists

I really got tired of Soulslikes. While waiting for the DLC (you know which one), I just started playing games from entirely other genres and I'm having a blast. Like, check out Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. It has such good bosses.
As a Caster main that's continually being disappointed by DS3 and Elden Ring, this looks promising. (I personally think Elden Ring was lazy in improving Caster gameplay outside of just the spells.)
Looks fun, but the art style looks inconsistent, sometimes realistic, sometimes cartoonish. I assume this is because it's still in its early stages and mixes assets from various sources. Has the developer indicated which direction they want to take eventually?
