Man, sometimes Sips is just such a comedic genius.
"Literally a quarter of people in this country believe that covid was a hoax."
"Well, can you prove that it wasn't?"
    "Yes."
    "I rest my case."

Oh the DofE... well the gold one, well one of the girls in our group sprained her ankle in the iddle of the yorkshire moores, with nothing around for several miles... had to carry her on my back while one of the other guys and one of the other girls carried mine and her backpacks (which together weighed a lot less than the girl... short straw) earlier we had decided as a group to get off the path and take a massive short cut, this meant i as the map guy had to use contour lines to pinpoint our location, which was another annoyance, but we did make it to the pickup point half a day ahead of the the next group. The adult NCO we had following us was impressed that the one group with a medical issue got back way before the rest of them. So glad i got to pick who was in my team on that one, basically i picked everyone from the NCO group we had formed, bunch of corporals and me the sergeant, well staff sergeant afterwards like. any other team leader would have let her fail and got the adult to call in for the jeep to take her back, but we knew she wanted to get it as much as we did so no one gets left behind. I bet Lew Lew also has stories like this from his time in Cadets.

Big-Ups to Lightning Maps. You can actually display the station as well as show which ones detected which lightning strike, some of which are on the other side of the world! I'm not going to look up how it works as that's not how we do things here. I'm going to guess these stations have some RF antenna which can pick up electrical discharges. The magic probably happens when multiple stations pick up the same one and triangulate the likely position. How do they know it's the same one? How does a station on west coast America pick up one in Germany? I'm going to channel my Dr Simon Clark and say...thermosphere.

I personally didn’t find DofE that difficult. The stuff ain’t even that heavy.
The only people I’d see struggling were the genuinely incompetent. Either being ill prepared, not drinking any water (or bringing enough) or just not being able to meet the basic fitness for a simple walk.
Even in cadets, I’ve walked in all kinds of shit and boiling weather and you’d see this shit happening with the same people time and time again, to the point where it seemed almost deliberate.

Lewis has a point wrt the personality types required to believe in conspiracy theories. I believe with stuff like that (including far-right political ideologies), the average believer is scared and genuinely believes it, and wants other people to believe it too to protect them. Those who founded the theory or are at the top most likely do not believe it, and are cynically using it to gain power or money or something like that.

If you don’t have “air con”, you’re missing out on a key component of modern living. 99% of my family, friends, and colleagues would think you’re insane if you don’t have A/C. While I live in Florida, A/C allows fresh air to regulate a room that can be too hot or too cold (It’s cold for 3-4 months of the year). Nothing is ever quite “just right” indoors, and opening windows isn’t safe for long periods of time.

The problem with catching criminals through blatantly obvious ads is you let the intelligent ones get away. Sure you need to get both, but you're not. I hate to say it because there are people with good intent, but things like pedophile hunters only strengthen child sex abusers. That's because you give them the information needed to avoid being caught, and thus those who don't know how to control their urges can get away with it more easily, especially now the attention is diverted.

I'm 26 and mega uber doomer here, but instead of bashing my chest and crying online I live my hopelessness. "what the point?" is the question I never had the answer.
I never had any friends growing up, no hopes, no dreams, never had a job, never finished college, I never enjoyed anything out of life besides momentary base pleasures of video gaming, alcohol, and whatever distracts me and frankly keeps me alive albeit barely.
The fact is there isn't any hope to life everything you do is meaningless as all things will fade, why suffer? why work hard for something for the "chance" of fleeting happiness when its just another way to suffer? absolutely no point to anything anyone does says or believes in so who the fuck cares? If you're hopeful good for you, but nobody cares, you'll die alone just like everyone and all you can do is pray you'll have a better time in the next life so no point in giving a shit.

Entrapment is a problem since you are, in a sense, encouraging a crime. If you are giving a person an opportunity to commit, you can never be sure that they would have committed it otherwise. Also police usually don't pretend to sell the drugs they pretend to buy them
