I got into bees around the time Bob started releasing videos. Started with 2. Have over 50 right now. I wouldn’t have that many without these videos. Most helpful resource out there.
Everything on the channel is like gold. I’m on the quest to 200. Some I’ve watched a couple times just for the value involved.

This is really great information and makes sense.
I'm 45 and probably won't make the leap to sideliner but beekeeping is the most interesting thing I've gotten involved in to date.
Learning how the bees behave, harvesting honey, rendering wax, learning to market your products, learning basic woodworking, learning to think on your feet.
Beekeeping has it all.

Bob this was fantastic I am trying for 60 I am retired from my job so I believe I can do it. I went from 40 to 63 and trying to get honey as well. everything you said was and is very helpful to me thanks so very much. I am looking forward to part 2. I am a beekeeper from Migori County, Kenya. I have been relying on the natural way trapping swarms. This was a great video how we could expand via splitting. I have never tried splitting. I give it a shot.
I wouldn't say boring. Educational/ informative. I personally enjoy them, plenty of really good information that your able to share from many years of personal experience. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing the wisdom.

Notching is a form of emergency cell but produces queens as good as supersede cells. Some springs as good as the swarm cells. In the north it's about the only way I can produce earlier queens. Pull a 5 frame nuc with a queen ( for customers that are want that early nuc and willing to take last years queen) from a double and notch. Come back and split up those notched frames 10 days later. This year that did bite me in the backside. Because we were hit with 2 weeks plus of high winds and rain. So yup I chased little virgin swarms. Swarm magnets and traps....thank God for swarm magnets and traps!

i keep 40-50 hives as a hobbyist/sideliner. I want to expand not my colony count, but my honey yield to a solid 1500# per season.

One year into my journey to commercial started with one hive got up to 18 before wet season (subtropics australia) down to 8 now from shb and my crappy carpentry (all hives built from free pallets) interesting learning curve cant wait to see what next year brings .thanks bob your my mentor

Would be interesting in part 2 to tell us how does inspection goes when you have big number of hives. Do beekeepers actually inspect frame by frames for swarming, etc.

We usually don't look at every frame unless we see a cell or cells on the bottom bars of the frames when we lean the boxes back..

Hey Bob, Thank you again for your insights. I am working to grow my hive count. I purchased a good amount of packages this year. Is it doable to grow the packages large enough to split in late June to be ready to overwinter (northern IL)?
Bob I watched this again been binge watching everything you have made I just had a thought/question if you would I hope u see this, Will a frame feeder stimulate the bees for growth more bees or should I use buckets only thanks, Hope u have a wonderful week.
The bucket works better because the syrup is metered out over an extended period. A frame feeder or hive top feeder dumps a lot at one time and doesn't have a consistent, long lasting affect.

We actually rarely use them. If we were up north I might reconsider that.
I have three hives that I put swarm cells in it and none of the swarm cells tuck so I have three empty hives with no queen. My question is can I take a nuke and put it in 10 frame hive and then set one of my hives on top and use new paper method to combine them together would that work?
That can work. If the queenless colony has progressed to a laying worker stage it's a bit more precarious but can still work. The bigger the nuc the better the odds.

Yes. I've figured out it works best to sting where the pain already exists the worst.

When you have swarm cells and you use the double screen board, do you find the original queen? If so do you pinch her or just leave her alone?
If a colony has not swarmed I might go either way. If she is performing poorly she definitely gets removed.
Bob I have seen several beekeepers in GA post comments stating the sourwood bloom is running 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule. Are you seeing that where you live or around any of the yards you operate? Thanks
In our area it may run a bit early but it doesn't seem like it will be that much.

In western australia our main whole sale market has crashed and i can only sell localy meaning most of my hives are not worth looking after so im trying to reduce my numbers😢 , why? Well its been told to me they've been importing eucalypt honey from argentine very very cheep. So consider the market.

Where is the ideal place to place the drone frame to get it drawn out?
A couple of frames in from the wall works great. We actually put them against the wall which will still get the job done when they're big enough.
What type of queens do you use in your apiary?
He uses Caucasian from Shibo at Two Rivers. He’s going to a cross this year.
Our bees are currently a majority of Caucasian with Carniolan and Italian mixed in.
Bob, what is a good living from bees?
Like many businesses, a one man show makes an average blue collar wage. If you grow larger and have employees you can make more.
Good lord, I have 75 colonies and it's become a full time job! I'm supposed to be retired! Now I'm producing overwintered nus, queens, honey, and candles. What the hell was I thinking?? 9 years in this "hobby" and I still haven't broken even on the ledger.

nucs are 200 to 250 average where i come from
Region definitely makes a difference. They tend to be more expensive as you go north.
look at the picture ? what do you notice in the sky , its been climate engineered, climate eginnering is what they term it , some of it , en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratospheric_aerosol_injection
