That's how they laugh on the internet ("wwwww" = "lololol") So basically the translation would be "lol" Upon further investigation, "^^" is the korean translation of the text. The official translation is, apparently, "lol, weeds." which is still longer than LAN's text. They botched it tbh just put "lol"

If you include Rush Duel, we don't know how it will be localized but the normal monster "Grass" has the flavor text of "w" (ruby text of "weed"). Depending on how you feel about ruby text, this is a card with a single character of text. The Korean printing localized it as "^^" The proposed English localization would be "lol, weed" at 2 words, 9 characters, but due to a possible drug reference I wouldn't be surprised if it was shortened to "lol" or even just uses the Korean localization.
Something interesting about old school yugioh as that shorter effects were just better. For example: Raigeki: Destroy all monsters your opponent controls VS Diffusion wave motion: if your opponent controls a monster and you control a specific type of monster it is REQUIRED to attack every monster your opponent controls, and other monsters you control can’t attack

Keywords sounds good on paper but they would have to completely rewrite how effects are structured to do so. What the OCG does with using bullet points on effects is probably a better suggestion and works better with how card text is structured.
The shortest mtg effect is probably "trample" clocking in at one word, 6 characters. Printed on by far the best, most meta-defining card ever printed. And reprinted.

The game has over 38,000 cards you can collect, and I've collected them all. I found this figure by simply using a calculator and adding the total number of cards in each available pack.

I prefer cards with long text boxes only because I feel like there is no middle ground between a card with short text either being pack filler or obscenely broken and both being quite uninteresting and bland. That being said, the amount of text in cards does feel like it's too much right now and it would be nice if it was organized better since the ammount of rules misunderstandings and misplays in tournaments is higher than it ever has been, even with top tier players.
