- Aging, health and function is something that all of us are interested in. This is one of my favorite exercises, and an ancient one. Start by using a much lighter bar than the one I am using. For most men probably try 10-12 or 15 lb bar in the beginning. For example my 20lb bar I can do 150 reps plus. The 30lb bar that I am using is more than twice as difficult so right now 50-60 reps. A fluid and synergistic exercise from ancient warrior cultures.
Great video, excellent instruction and information, thank you for sharing your knowledge
I teach this in seminars all around the world, it is a mace movement, and I am easy to Google as Mr.Maceman.
Sensei, I have been performing that exercise since I was I Little League. I'm very happy to learn I was on to something!
Very cool I’ll add it to my daily warm up. thanks!
Reminds me of old Indian/Hindu club training
Correct. Where it started for sure I don't know however it goes way back in Indian culuture.
@@SystemOfStrategy I can really see the bar feeling better especially for the Katana..They also have a great culture in martial arts that I wasn't aware of before. Some think it may even be the birthplace of martial arts.
@@50StichesSteel True and possible however every successful culture had martial training is tracking it down is probably not feasbile.
@@SystemOfStrategy Absolutely..Its just fun to think about. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when each one was created/adopted. What each culture was going through at the time.
I used to do this with a splitting maul, or sledge hammer, depending on which was available in the moment. I completely forgot about it too, thank you for the reminder.
You Da Man, Sir.
Excellent! So glad to see you posting new content!
I am in a better position to film now, so more will be coming.
Nice
Also in Iran with clubs
Yes, it does go way back in Persian history.. I prefer the bars over the clubs however I use both.
Osu Sensei 👊🙏!
Just watching you do that it's easy to tell how effective it is for martial artists. Do you incorporate resistance bands and if so, what are your thoughts on them? BTW, thanks for posting.
I don't personally use resistance bands. I like fluid integrated movements for most of my workouts.
@@SystemOfStrategy Thanks for the reply
Hello! 😃
There's a lot to doing this correctly when working with a mace or clubs and not starting with weight that is too high, engaging your core, foot placement, etc. Take a look at ruclips.net/video/UCKG4fy0Qi8/видео.html The ShoulderRök is pretty awesome since you can change the weigh and I have used one since they came out and clubs before that.
Is that just a regular weight bar?
No, there are sold as an exercise bar however I have not seen them advertised for this purpose.
