I was able to swap my mother board and cpu for the first time with zero issues other than having to re route some cables thanks to this guide. Very helpful!
I know this is too much to ask but could you do step by step guide on how to upgrade/swap an air and or aio cooler without removing the motherboard out of the case?
I'd be interested in that as well. I think it's safe to assume most people updating their coolers will want to avoid the hassle of removing the whole board when modern cases usually have a cutout at the back to allow for it.
Thank you, Chris. THIS is the kind of 'meat & potatoes' how-to video that PC building scrubs like me need the most, and there are too few of them (of this caliber) on RUclips. As always, I appreciate your detailed explanations, sharing you reasoning, *and* your fantastic editing. 👍🏼 Please keep 'em coming! (P/S: My son's name is Daniel also. 🙌🏼)
18:02 a question if I may? What if you only wanted to do a fresh OS install and leave your game NVME ‘as is’ so you didn’t have to reinstall all the games? If you just format the windows OS 250GB drive and then do a fresh install, would you need to do anything else to use the game 1TB drive you left alone and didn’t format?
I've always done a clean install on all drives, but there maybe a way to do this, just never tried it. If you have a drive with just data you can put it in and it will work as before, but you would depend where you installed the games application and you would need to point it to the data and hope nothing had changed in the folder names.
Would I have issues if I swapped my Intel Mobo and cpu to AMD mobo and CPU? Like can I just move the nvme and it will recognize everything? I've always wondered this.
It will work, but you may or may not have problems. Clean install would be my approach for this, but you could swap over and just do the clean install if you run into problems
what drill is that you use when taking all the screws out im upgrading my ROG STRIX B560-A gaming wifi to MSI PRO Z490-A PRO LGA 1200 Intel Z490 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
you can just reactivate windows after swap motherboard from AMD to AMD or AM4 to AM5 could be working too, so there's no need to clean and fresh install or reinstall windows. also make sure to backup your important files and backup download files as well as reinstall app into external SSD/HDD before reinstall windows if you don't want to lost it
i’ve been wanting a video like this for so long. I’ve been terrified to do a motherboard upgrade. Can you PLEASE do one with a AMD to Intel Swap? and Also do we have to wipe the SSDs? I have an OS/Software SSD and a pure Games and captures SSD. I’d like to not have to reinstall all that if possible. Or is the wipe necessary to avoid problems/corruptions?
You may or may not have problems. It will definitely work and you can just install the intel drivers, but to avoid any potential problems I prefer the clean install.
@@ChristopherFlannigan Thank you for the reply, I suppose it is not that much of a hassle to reinstall the games on the ssd and the captures i can put on an external drive or something. Thank you!
I was hoping for a more detailed explanation of the wiring connections, usb, sata, power, etc. especially when the layout doesn’t match the old motherboard. Does the new motherboard come with detailed instructions?
I have some questions but i dont know much about computers. I was planning to upgrade my motherboard and cpu to newer ones. Can I use my current ssd and hard drive that's in a intel compatible motherboard, in a newer intel compatible motherboard and cpu without clearing or wiping anything
if new mobo doesnt come with wifi drivers (doing a mobo swap in a couple days and previous one did not come with the drivers installed so it was a headache) can i install new mobo and download the driver via USB and then do windows reinstal or will that wipe the driver making windows install impossible due to no internet
how do I replace a motherboard on a dell optiplex? I want to get a new and better cpu but the motherboard doesnt support it, the best cpu that I can get on my dell optiplex 9020 MT is an i7 4790k and I got that, but I want to get a better cpu. how do I get a new cpu? do I need a new motherboard?
Question: That asrock board support gen 5 M.2 drives but if the it populates the socket coming from the cpu then the pcie socket for the gpu goes from pcie 4x16 to 4x8 speeds. However if you use a gen 4 instead of gen 5 M.2 drive then it works at pcie x16 speeds. Is this true?.
There are two drives behind top heatsink one gen 5 and one gen 4 but only one of these can be used at once. The PCIE lanes come from CPU. If you put any drive in the gen 5 slot the top pcie slot for GPU goes down to 8 lanes. Put any drive in gen 4 slot no effect on top PCIE slot
i dont get it with erasing ALL your files on the storage devices in the BIOS... Dosent that make the games and apps disappear??? or are you only deleating the old windows files?
I bought a new motherboard and it's a different brand than the old one, is everything gonna be fine on my first boot or I need to get the drivers etc and instal it on boot
If you have to wipe the M.2 drives how do you reinstall windows without having to pay for it again?
MAS script. Google it.
From what i understand you have to buy it again
A bit late but you can get thumb drives for pretty cheap with it already installed
There’s a way to link your copy of windows digitally to your account and you can unlink from one pc and then activate on another.
Bunch of ppl saying you don’t need to uninstall windows
probably the best mobo and cpu upgrade video cuz go you through the start up steps afterwards. thanks

Yes, I needed this right now, I am swapping case 👍
Good luck
I know this is too much to ask but could you do step by step guide on how to upgrade/swap an air and or aio cooler without removing the motherboard out of the case?
(See what I mean, Chris? We need to know how to do this stuff! 😁)
yes chris more content plzz!!
I'll keep it in mind for future video, lots of new cases to cover first
I'd be interested in that as well. I think it's safe to assume most people updating their coolers will want to avoid the hassle of removing the whole board when modern cases usually have a cutout at the back to allow for it.
i did this last week and it's very simple. just remove and replace

Thank you for the video! I'm currently looking after that holidays to bump up from 11th Gen to 14th gen. Was very detailed and well explained.
Do i just have to format the drive with windows on it (the drive where the pc uses to boot) or do i have to format everything?
I have a question if a put the nvme in the old motherboard then put it in the new will it have all the data including windows?
Yes
even if it's Intel to amd or vice versa?
@@Wilt_Chamberlain thank you

Yes
a question are the same step with AMD , I want to make a change from a b550m-plus wifi to an aorus x670e X pro make the leap to the new generation 😊
Should be very similar

If I do this and do a clean install won’t it wipe my OS and all my drivers and such? I don’t have my original OS disc.
If I want to do a fresh install of windows the first thing I should do is enter into the bios and reinstall it,right?
My B460m motherboard just died. Of i change it with H510m, will all my data will be save?. ( just swap my part like you)
So will swapping motherboard will it delete my games and files?im using same cpu and both ate asus boards. B650
Asus prime b550 plus downloads a zip file with a Biosrenamer.exe and a CAP file. Which of these two would you copy and paste onto the flashdrive?

no, windows will push basic drivers and you can uninstall and install updated drivers for your system
you don't need to reinstall windows

Don't you afraid that you will tighten the screws to the mobo too much with the cordless screwdriver?
what electronic screwdriver are you using?
So he wiped the two SSD sticks? Why did he have to do that part?

hey im new to pcs but i was wondering if i could use my current ssd that's in a intel motherboard with a new motherboard that has an amd cpu socket
I bought a new motherboard and it's a different brand than the old one, is everything gonna be fine on my first boot or I need to get the drivers etc and instal it on boot
hey, if im gonna change the mother board do i need to install every game and every application that i before haved?
No. The profiles on your computer are stored in your hard drives.
You also could use a usb stick
Is it the same for switching from intel to amd
What electric screwdriver do you use? Would like to order one like it for my own use.
im getting a new mother td and i have windows do i need to reinstall n remove all files or what im still new when it come to pc stuff
