      I think more videos like this are good. In the name of clarity you and most other channels like this edit out all the other planes, and I think it gives the false impression that these controllers are dealing with one plane at a time and the mistakes seem more implausible. Sometimes it's good to expose the viewer to the real chaos.

    Newark, particularly ground, has been chaotic in the last few weeks with very long wait times for departures starting in the afternoons. Route and fixes are stopped on and off, sometimes NOTHING out of Newark is available. When one route kept being opened and closed one ATC said that they just closed it because a drop on rain fell outside NY center.
    This controller is gold. The ”i’m removing your flight plan” gets pilots attention for sure. Also very professional.

    Back in 90-91 I rode jumpseat in and out of Dulles as often as my job allowed (fairly often), and this reminds me of their approach frequency. But when I flew through their VFR corridor as a student pilot (always adding STUDENT PILOT to my callsign), suddenly the controller spoke very slowly, clearly, and kindly. When he called me with an advisory or something, the channel went completely silent while he and I were talking. It was surreal. The controller and the pilots who could hardly talk fast enough for their own clearances found all kinds of time for the student who wasn't even in their class B airspace. (I think radio contact was required for VFR transition through that corridor, but I got the full, deluxe flight-following package with a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni.) I knew how busy that frequency normally was, and I knew crews in that airspace were holding back their coms for me. It was very kind of them, though I'm not sure it was all that necessary. I was pretty good on the radio by then. The jumpseat time in that airspace was great prep for that.
    That corridor was through the IAD-DCA-BWI class B airspace. Does the EWR-LGA-JFK airspace have a VFR corridor with students like me on the approach freq?

  • @matthewstraub8771
    @matthewstraub8771 5 месяцев назад +4

    NYC has three major airports plus Teterboro, Islip and Newburgh. The airspace is extremely congested and any kind of weather deviations create conflicts between traffic flows. So just about any deviation for weather usually means that route closes until the weather dissipates or moves.
    People say the "weather isnt bad." What passengers and the general public dont notice is that even light rain showers can be produced by towering cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds that pilots deviate around to avoid turbulence.
    Similarly, the NYC airports are scheduled based on optimal runway configuration at each airport. If the wind, ceiling and visibility isnt allowing the optimal configuration at each airport, this causes conflicts and reduces the arrival and departure rates. This happens on what most people would consider good weather days but poor scheduling and airport infrastructure gets blamed to weather or air traffic control.
    the New York area doesnt have enough runways and the runways it has are awkwardly located and designed.

    Hey all! Question for those of you with some knowledge: what's with the blocked(?) transmissions--those transmissions that have that obnoxious tone overlayed? Where does it come from, and does it have a purpose?

    • @BelowMinimums
      @BelowMinimums 5 месяцев назад +4

      Radios can only have one radio transmitting at a time. If more than one try to transmit the radio wave gets blocked and that noise happens

    • @gs0b
      @gs0b 5 месяцев назад +5

      Two or more radios are transmitting at the same time. Causes a "tone" in the receiver as the transmissions interfere with each other. It is not useful, other than helping identify multiple tranmissions. We may not hear the same thing as the controllers, as the receivers that capture these recordings are in a different location from the official ATC radios.

    • @Etobio
      @Etobio 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@BelowMinimums So that tone is just the natural result of two transmitters clashing upon being received? Quite an interesting phenomenon I'll have to look into further! Thank you for your answer :)
