For me, slower progressive styles is always harder to make than faster music. Because the slower the BPM the harder it is to keep the energy you want. When I make music I try to go as slow as possible so that even when sped up it sounds good, cause music generally loses energy when you slow it down. Which makes sense scientifically because you're making gaps between the frames of the sound signal, where as speeding up music just pushes the frames closer together.
I have the same. therefore i leave the slower bpm's for the guys who are really good at it and go to 146. Maybe when i feel more comfortable about my K-B i will enter the 135's regions. Your K-B has to be really solid at lower bpm because its character is showed there much more. The disadvantage of slow bpm can be also that you never are satisfied with your K-B and the fun of making tracks disappears. The more you listended and know about K-B the more critical your taste can become. To continue to have fun in producing you have to finish tracks.
We need more hypnotic trance! Very interesting content. I really feel the BPM is connected to your inner brain/body wavelength, and at slower speeds you are not hyped in the same way and by so, being more relaxed than alert, you can enjoy the progression without the need of so much fireworks
One the most life changing tracks I've heard was at 134 bpm nd something about the endless flow nd the trance state at that bpm is just so sweeeeeeeet✨✨
From an audience perspective, I agree completely with every word you said. I have long advocated such an arrangement, among others. Because that's what we've been missing the most in recent years. I dare to say that we had wonderful tracks in the range of 130-135 somewhere from 2010-2016. By no means would I say they didn't have a fantastic story as well. Furthermore, in this BPM range we can often hear harder, heavier sounds. As you said, some melodic breakdown, maybe an additional groove melody gently following the rythm, continuous roll... Old school recipe, guaranteed hypnosis on dance floors. We have countless examples such as Boro Boro, Beyond Gravity, Ground Zero, Eternal, Inspace, Timeless, Night Sight RMX, or heavy duty stuff like Far From Hell, Chemical Reaction, etc. etc... A lot of material from the aforementioned crew from that era. Few things shake like that today. As for the speed itself, I can confirm that some of us have recently been reaching out to Altar records for downtempo material that also sounds powerful... Like Profondita, for example. Anyway, whoever steps down this path once again has my personal full support...
My BPM in most of my own tracks are mostly about 144-146. But if i heard that track here, i be inspired to make also one, or twoo, or more track's with 135 :)
Just quickly looking at some of my favorite 135 bpm tracks in my collection... Protonica - Floating Point (Morning Mix) Yahel & Activa - Samsana Egorythmia - Night Sight (Flegma & Nerso Remix) Space Cat & Pixel - The Experiment Protonica - Subground Suntree - Back To The Source Suntree - Unseen Suntree - Persistence
I heard Egorythmia and Zen Mechanics ‘Primal Sphere’ on the recent PsyNation Radio, and it blew my mind. Hardly any grid, long movements and hardly any glitch/drum transitions… Glad to hear that it might not be a one-off track!! It’s a really interesting style that hasn’t been heard recently 🙏
Though I tend to prefer tracks at 144-147 it seems like a lot of modern psy at that tempo is a big cacophony of fm sounds. I’ve been really enjoying James West’s tracks that are more minimalist and hypnotic. I’ve also been going back to Astrix first album. Crystal Sequence is an amazingly chill and hypnotic track and you almost forget that it’s 145. Tristan’s Crazy Wisdom has also been a pleasure to listen to.
I used to love these slower paced, hypnotic progressive tracks! Egorythmia was also fantastic in that, I am missing that in his newer music despite the amazing sound design.
Great video, Actually I often find myself searching for "minimal progressive psytrance" so you totally nailed it with this video. I fact if you would have uploaded this project, I would have thought, "YES, finally what I'm looking for" Keep evolving, Peace.
I feel like this already for a while. This is refreshing to have this come from another producer as well. It confused me for a while as I sometimes can not make up my mind what to produce now as everybody is doing the same thing. but this leads to a new genre in this type of psytrance I believe.
@@marcovandermeij4521 it’s because you are thinking what to produce. Try to relax and try ti feel what is feel the most. Whatever you feel the most, you gonna produce the best!
one of my fav BPM from 120 to 135 ,used to listen the old tracks by Israelis they were the king in tht groove ,back in 2005 till now ,off course all other upcoming artisit are all killer in there sounds ,the best part about this BPM is we need good groove otherwise it wont be a danceable track and mostly the (kick and bass should be tight ,we need to look there time and phasing ,making them sit together and glue it like a fevicol ;) then offcoures the rest of the drums and instruments
you are right. i think the old time progressive psytrance works much better. todays music is filled up with to much weird sounds and it gets darker and darker. 😐 I love the old Virus Sounds👌keep on going E-Clip🤙
when did u guys made this track ?? Bro this is briiliant track ,seriously ,see the quality of kick and bass and rest of the sounds ,i dont understand why is artisit not able to bring this quality to there tracks in present age ,where everything is possible and inifitnite
Genre question: You said in the beginning that you made Full-on in your early career and now make Progressive. Some of your recent tracks like Transcendental Reality felt quite Full-On-ish to me. Where do you personally define the boundary between both genres? :)
Question is, is the 135 bpm hypnotic to everyone the same way? And is the the same always or does it depend on the consciousness state? The lower bpm gives more time to kick and bass and it allows making deeper frequencies without going out of time before the next note needs to start, which I see as an added benefit as a infra sound lover as I have sound system that reproduces with force to below 20 Hz without losig the tightness of the upper bass as Inhave finally understood how the bass can be made perfect (on the reproduction side). There is supporting anecdotal evidence though: I do consider especially Orkidea's Harmonia Deluxe Edition -album ultra hypnotic, and I think the bpm ranges on it between 124 and 138. And indeed his tune Purity happens to be an elevator, and that happens to be exactly this 135 bpm. I have many favorites on the album, Glowing Skies, Z21, North Star, Harmonia, Nana, Purity, Slowmotion III Orkidea Remix. These are in particular super hypnptic, to the point that I take the liberty to call them meditation music despite noone agrees with me that dance music would be meditation music. But these tunes totally do it. They are the hypnotic references to myself. Done many 140 bpm tunes now, should maybe try 135.
Thanks a lot , i was perceiving that some grooves doesn't fit well in higher bpms, since i'm listening a lot of dub and deep techno, and produce "zenonesque" i will need to choose for lower bpms or else i can't get the vibe i want on my project.
I like it this way.. I know other friends would prefer full power from the start.. the straight rolling kick and bass unfortunately quickly gets tiring when there isn't much else going on. Maybe pitch the bass up or down every now and then?
I don't go to clubs, so the main way I listen to music is at home using my headphones. And with that it seems to me that the psytrance genre is kind of starting to be saturated. There isn't enough "distinguished" tracks nowadays. I find more joy listening to psybient or rhythmic ambient instead. Something in the range of 90-120 BPM (E-Mantra, Astronaut Ape, Liquid Crystal come to mind). It seems that I am getting more from the slower psybient/ambient genre than from "standard" psytrance. But when considering psytrance, progressive psytrance is still my favorite, because I there is melody, a story is being told. But I guess for one who goes to parties and clubs their experience and requirements might be totally different. 🤔🤷
I'm wired a bit differently than most, and minimalism like this drives me away from the dance floor. I need a strong riff or generative sequence or something with a lot of movement to put me in a hypnotic state. Slow tempos can slam, though.
i love the kick and the base! but the song has much more potential in my opinion, the sounds are not so great! i would feel this track more with some melodic one shots, way less loud drums and some leads and atmospheres! eclip if i can say something, this track with more of a melodic one shot sounds vibe and maybe later a nice groove with leads will be fire! 🔥🤙

It’s because there’s more space for the kit and the base frequencies to exist given the illusion of deeper base
