The overall aesthetic of the team started to shift around Divebomb. He was teetering on the line between recognizable and over-stylized. Razor claw here took that line and snorted it.
If this thing was a restaurant, it wouldn't just be busy, it would be triple booked with the kitchen on fire.

I dig it. It'll bleed you though, reminds me of the TFC Seacons in that respect. I didn't expect you'd like it--definitely not for everyone. Thankfully, it speaks to me.
It's the same design team behind both.
I'm still in. I know most don't care for the set, but it's so different and away from the norm that I was interested from jump.
I can see your points about it not being fun to manipulate, but honestly I just pose and place. Maybe I'll transform then out of curiosity, but for the most part I'm into the bots.
Thanks for struggling through the review and taking the hits for us. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.
Speaking as someone who finds these designs more interesting than the originals, I really don't mind the ultra-stylized look.
That being said, while I like this set, I'll concede and agree that there's too much extra stuff in the way. Trying to transform Kinglion can be a bit of a pain with the extra mane bits around the shoulders bumping into each other. Removing one or both of the mane bits, whether it's the ones directly on the arms or the ones next to his head, would help a lot when transforming him. This feels like one of the few times in this set where style really got in the way of function.
Can't wait for the combined mode.

I'm all in on these guys and looking forward to see what happens with their take on the Dinobots. Know they'll more than likely be changing the designs from the teasers they've shown but I just like their stylized version so far. And Predacons vs Dinobots on my shelves would be awesome.
After a lot of thought I decided to go back on in these, got something in mind for them. I think the wolf is dumb. Razorclaw I'm quietly impressed by but I really had to strip it down and lube so many joints it was ridiculous. Now having done that it's a lot more fun, but that shouldn't be needed. Agree the bot looks better without most of the add ons, I've got him with the axe and one add one folded as a shield and it does work. Should have a separate sword tho.
I'm still in on this set though not for my transformers collection anymore. The thing reminds me of gaogaigar so that's sitting with all my Gundams. When a more cartoon accurate predating comes around then I'll pick it up for my transformers collection

I think the breaking point for me is...if we were never going to get another, more accurate representation of the Predacons, this set would be great..but..I feel like somewhere down the line I'd be double dipping, and this set would in no way, shape , or form, fit as either a bot, or alt mod set to compliment a more accurate group. It'd be one or the other.

I’d just like to offer a suggestion for an addition to the “Skullface Lexicon.”
For your consideration, the bot that forms the “torso section” of a 5-bot combiner team can be referred to as “the black lion” of the team.
Worked for me when I was explaining Silverbolt and Motormaster to a non-collector.

Yeah, I loved the other three but this one just dumped it for me. Props to you, Bobby, for taking one for the team and reviewing this!
I remember, when I was young, reading the story of The Lion & The Mouse. But this is the first time I've heard of The Lion that sounds like a mouse! 🤣 Oh well, "if you like it, you win" but this is definitely not for me! Another good one Bobby and I agree wholeheartedly with the skit.
I just got this a couple days ago. The joints in the backpack guns are terrifyingly tight. Lube can't even get in lol. Great skit btw!

I’ve been waiting for zeta to make theirs forever and it looks good. Who knows if they fully back in business?
I like it, I particularly like the Zoid look of the beast mode and I believe it to be objectively good.
This company never said they were going to be releasing a G1 Predaking, I understand some of you may want one (I do too) but please cut them some slack. Cang Toys are releasing very good quality items for a fair price and that is more then we can say about most 3rd party companies releasing MP TF action figures.
You don't like it you don't buy it... it's as simple as that.

These look good. I'm in for the legends scale ones I hope they are just as good. So far we only have the divebomb version in the legends scale I hope we get the others soon and it wasn't scrapped. To bad the wolf will not be in the legends scale but I am excited to see the gorilla's color scheme for it. great review.
Also love that skits are coming back or sneaking into more video. There a funny little break up in the middle of a video well done.
I sold the first 3 before this one was even revealed. I am in for the legends one though.
2 red flags for me are that his hands barely extend past his over-inflated torso, and his head is barely visible in robot mode amongst all the spikey-kibliness. That said, still keeping an eye on how the combiner ultimately turns out and handles. If it ends up with good tolerances, range of motion, and holds together well, then I might still be interested if they ever release a boxed set down the road.
Agree with your review 100%. It has a strong presence when it's on the shelf, but it's hard on the fingers, wrists, hands in general and just doesn't scream TF for me personally
Do you transform them back from Alt mode to do the final thoughts? Is that transformation more irritating? Do you stop to take a drink after lol. Once you threw out the Dude! I knew it was over.
He definitely drifts further from the aesthetics of the other figures in the set. I definitely like the first three and like what I've seen of the last two. Razorclaw has always been burdened by being the torso, giving us things like a table altmode with a lion head. I get if this pushes the whole set outside someone's aesthetic preferences, and I'm not great with it, but I can live with it.
The back cannons are a nightmare to deal with.
I’m just sticking with the legends class version. They seem far more streamlined and simplified to their own benefit. Divebomb alone is fantastic.

Combined, this mess is going to look like a pile of colorful plastic puke that vaguely resembles a humanoid. I'm talking Bayverse Devastator.
I hope you're wrong for the sake of those invested, but I think you're probably right. It will be interesting to see regardless.
I gave up on this set the moment we saw combined mode for the first time, they're just too drastically stylized to the point where they don't belong in any collection, but a stand-alone piece. That said, it never fails to impress me how clean and gratuitous their paint work is. Their golds and oranges especially pop very well in person. The few figures I've seen/ messed with are really good about orange peel/ paint bleed too.
I hope once they finish this set, they try their hand at something in the Beast Wars or IDW/OX aesthetic. They have a lot of potential to be a top 5 3P company, but these Predacons are not helping their situation.
Looks like a zoid in alt mode
The beast mode looks more like something from Zoids. The bot mode looks like he has on a backwards backpack or a fat suit.
I think the lion head looks too big in bot mode, it would be nice if it had a faux head that could swapped out if you desired.

When Cang Toys First announced their Predacons/Predaking, and I saw the images, I WAS STOKED. FIRED UP! Awww MAN! 'bout time someone does this Team. They looked INCREDIBLE. Ripped right from the Toys and Comics. GREAT Aesthetics. I was impressed with RAMPAGE, although felt his color pallette was off, but could be over looked. Then came Tantrum, and again, BLOWN AWAY. AWESOME! Saw a repaint of his become Horri-Bull. NICE! Cang then dropped DIveBomb, and I was like, Umm Ok what happened? But he was decent, but you could tell they had started to move drastically away from the Comic/Toy Aesthetics. I was becoming apprehensive. Now with RazorClaw, I was DISAPPOINTED. My fears of the Product became a SAD Reality. They decided to GO FULL ZOID, and although I do like the Zoids, it's NOT Predacons. My Only HOPE is that PredaKing redeems the line and makes up for the hard earned dollars I spent. I have seen the prototype grey images and it just might. One can only hope. If they had stayed Comic/Toy like, keeping with that Aesthetic Motif, some artistic license allowed of course, I would have been all in on two sets. BUT now, witht he addition of the Feet, which although Cool, doesn't go with the TEAM, along with OP Gor as the waist, I will only have ONE to keep in Combined Mode and won't even bother with an additional set for 'Bot modes as they are just far too different to add to the G1 line look.

Their Divebomb had a heavy Gundam look to him, and dear god this just jacks that up to 11... And while he looks better than the images I saw looked, his head gets lost pretty badly from the front of the toy.
An interesting looking set, but way too stylized for my collection.
I must say, I have been enjoying the return of the skits.
Looks pretty good but I would like to see how it feels and definitely the damage that it will do to our pockets?! 💯🤔

These figures are to crazy looking to be my Predaking. I rather have another Feral Rex. Bigger and updated. Wish they go the zeta toys route with a combiner parts. That formula still works for me. Hopefully they get to working on Defensor which is a hole in the shelf. And a menasor. At this point. If they start now. They will beat Ft to complete the set.

Pass. His Combined face looks like Monstructor. If I were to put down close to a thousand dollars for this thing (and you just know that's how much the full set's going to cost), at the very least, I want his Combiner-face to remind me of, y'know, Predaking.
I really wanted to like this set. Just too stylized for my liking. I will likely just get the LikeToys body for the MMC. So sad. My opinion of course. Just not for me.

I really love the design of Predaking. 9 out of 10 times, a lion on the chest is an INSTANT winner for me.
But this is too far of a departure: both from the original design, and also because it essentially looks like an edgy Zoid. Easy pass for me.

Everyone one of these Cang Toys bots looks overly stylized and over engineered. I can only imagine the full Predaking will be a huge cluster eff to assemble and get a decent pose out of.
Listened on my drive to work asmr-style. By the sound of it honestly I kinda wish I could just nab the wolf outta this set on its own and not eff with the rest 😬. Sounds like a$$. No visuals really made the squeaks pop ☠️☠️☠️.

Predacons/Predaking were always my favorite combiner. Still I passed on this set early on, and I do not regret that decision. I hope the combined mode turns out good. I don't like the individual aesthetic going on with these.
this is overly stylized for me. it comes across more as a Zoid.
Looking at it gives me a headache. Yes it transforms...but to me its not a Transformer. Definite Gundam or Zoid vibe.
On its own, it looks like sort of Gundamnish, the combined mode just does not appeal to me.
