    Great and very helpful review Tom.. thanks a lot. I was on my way to return back to Lidl to buy this pizza oven which I saw while doing my weekly shopping. I had asked to the Lidl Store assistant which fuel is to be used for this oven as you have mentioned they covered this information with white tape. I have such a pizza oven and just added some insulation under it's cover and it works like a charm. Sure, as it is it's not doing a very good job but with this insulation added you would have a great pizza oven with a very cheap price. The insulation I used is basalt mineral wool but you can use also ceramic wool, the one that is used in fireplaces. The cover is held in simple rivets. After you take out the cover, you have like 3 cm space in which you can put the insulation, then mount the cover. I've made the best pizzas with this oven.

    I bought one too and liked the pizza so far. It's really not the hottest pizza oven. Another downside is that the chimney is about in the middle of the stone instead of near the front so the flames are only being pulled about halfway over the pizza. But I think it works fine for an absolute beginner as timing isn't such a big thing due to the lower heat. I'm adding pellets once I've built my pizza so that I can cook at the height of the flames. It's very likely not going to be my final pizza oven but it allows me to gain experience and to evaluate what features I'll want on the next oven.

    • @TomVoyageuk
      @TomVoyageuk  Год назад

      Thanks for watching! As a starting oven it’s ok, or for those cooks that need a longer bake at lower heat (NY pizza for eg) it’s ok, I think it would take time to learn how to regulate the temps in the oven, but once you have that down it’s ok. But I found it hard to get it hotter than 350c

    Great video, Tom. Too many negatives with this one (not that it's available in my country, anyway) but shows that cheaper isn't always the best way to go: There are too many trade offs. It'll just end up costing more in the end as you'll put it aside and spend more on an Ooni or similar.

    "WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU BUY"
    I wish I did, Tom. I wish I did...
    I've had it for a month and a half and as a total beginner it's been a huge pain.
    Tried with charcoal and wood first, didn't heat enough. Bought pellets, tried with that, fire management is awful. After painfully cooking 2 or maybe 3 pizzas and adding pellets, they start to burn incompletely and i have to dump the fire tray and start over.

    • @TomVoyageuk

      Yes wood chips to charcoal was how I got up to 350. It was very peaky though. Only a few mins at that temperature and not long enough to fully cook the pizza. Certainly wouldn't have got the stone hot enough. I removed the pizza did the initial burn and put it back in. Lots of agro to barely make it work. I'll see if I can return it. If not I'll see if it can be upgraded.
