The blessing of youtube is to have legends like Stefan show us unique riffs and chords ideas.

YES! no matter which part of the world you might be. As dramatic as it may sound, this is truly unhindered access to the knowledge of mankind.
Well said......
Yes, truly remarkable times , never in man's history have we had so much instruction available , for every subject in the world, in just a few clicks. As a 60yr old man I'm in awe. As a teenager all I had was a 'Beatles Complete' with the chords to work with ......
oh yess
Talent = knowing the simple little tricks to make it sound good and being confident enough to make it look easy and natural.
Well done Stefan.
Any dislikes--you're either trolling or utterly ignorant. Stefan is an American Living Treasure, a blues master nonpareil and that we can get this lesson free is an elfin' wonder. Thanks, Stef'--gorgeous!
I would agree about his compositions for solo fingerstyle
I Know. Who would dislike this?
Everyone teaching guitar and/or making videos... TAKE NOTES! This is great!
I love RUclips! The amount I have learned from all the talented people has truly been a blessing!! Thank you all!
i’ve watched ALOT of tutorials on youtube and yet i keep coming back to this legend
I have been finger picking for over 40 years. I get more out of this type of lesson than others out there. I come from the days when you spent an HR trying to tune to a record spinning around. Every record player had a different speed! The young have no idea or excuses for not leaning if they want too. Thanks for your time making these videos. Brad Lee
man don't I wish Id had these resources when I 1st started playing in 1964!

Although I know nearly all techniques of this video I never heard and seen somebody combines them so effectively and creative and play it so fluently and with a great sound like Stefan Grossman. Simply great!
I first checked this video out was a couple years ago, when I had first picked my guitar up after 20+ years. I've been coming back every once in a while to see if I've improved enough to follow along with this, and for the first time I've been able to get through it with a lot of backing it up and getting each part right before moving on. Very cool!
deadheadified Wilkie Nelsinho in concert
Thank you for posting and keeping the art-form alive. Great lesson with excellent technique !!!
From the first 3 notes he played, i knew i wanted to hear everything he had to say and play. What a cool guy. Now to replay this video over and over till i get it. Thank you, God bless
I first saw this over 20 years ago and I still love going back to it. Probably the best lesson of my lifetime.
Incredible skill, and kindness to share this. Your dedication to music and to my playing has been phenomenal. Thank you Stefan.
Kicking Mule Records. Stefan Grossman virtually singlehandedly taught an entire generation the rudiments of acoustic blues. I constantly run into players all over the world who have learned from his tutorials starting in the 1970s. He's an American national treasure. May he live forever. Thank you, Stefan for your dedication to teaching us with heart and humility.
Wise words
Marvellous lesson Stefan.....brings me back to my young days spent learning from the Kicking Mule books & albums. Stefan, you taught me a huge amount of fingerpicking, rag and fiddle tunes in the 70's....I loved it.
heard a double album way back in the 70's "How late'll ya play to". This kind of stuff was all over it. Spent many a night studying for finals and listening to it. David Bromberg and his band. Loved it
So glad I found you Stefan on RUclips. Use to have all your tutorial books and cds but lost them in a fire. One of the best players and teacher of blues fingerpicking ever. I've learned so much from you. Thank you.
Amazing. This is a goldmine right here.
It’s never ceases to amaze me how much I learn by watching mr grossman . I can live to be 200 and I’ll never have this skill level
Greatness in this slow blues jam.. Every note leaves you wanting to here more. Thanks for posting
I keep coming back to this tutorial by Grossman. So soothing yet full of variations
"Slow Blues in E" slowly went over my head! lol love it.
Mr. Grossman's timing is always impeccable. You can see how effortless he approaches a piece here, whether he is playing a simple blues lick or a complicated rag. The definition, the attack, and the timing in general, are always to be admired when you here him on here playing something. Thanks for posting this. I am always more intrested in the WAY he plays rather than the notes he plays. That is what seperates him from most people..
I’ve watched it a dozen times over a few years, and it’s still great! Thank you!
Pure gold. My sweet Lord that is the exact sound I've been looking for. I must learn this if it's the last thing I do.
Wow! Such clear, clean cut version of the blues we all know and love, and are dying to play! Im going to keep watching and trying to play it until my fingers fall off!
WOW !!Stefan Grossman sure is a Master at playing and teaching guitar.THE BEST. Makes every note sing .laugh or cry ,so much feeling in all his playing, He makes it seem so easy.. What an inspiration to all guitar players and music lovers.
Excellent player and teacher. I have my guitar students playing this always makes parents proud to hear them play this way. Cheers Stefan!
Absolutely beautiful blues in E lesson, thank you very much for sharing!!
I wish I had a continuous 2hr. recording of this.......Nice touch Stefan, most relaxing......
Stefan demystifies the blues! First time I've had a clue, thanks to him!
Would never tire of listening to this. Wonderful.
Stefan i studied with you in the 60s iam still playing and slow glad so are you!
Stefan is one of the best teachers in the world and we should all buy his DVD. American society should award this man a medal for his services to music, he is worthy of a knighthood. Thank you Stefan, Dan (from London - UK)

Stefan, is a great guitar player, teacher and guitarmusic historian!
Lovely stuff - and big tks to SG for inspiring so many people to get picking over the last 30+ years
WOW. SO GOOD. THIS BEATS ALL THAT SHREDDING ALL OVER U-TUBE. JUST SO INSPIRING. THANKS STEFAN, YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY.
I am a long time player a former shredder, I ditched rock and metal guitar when I realised the real art to blues playing. Even though it can be harmonically 'simple', the idea that you can play rhythm and lead simultaneously, play over the chord changes and actually produce grooving, complete musical statements is what makes this so appealing and great to both play and listen to. There is a lot more going on than most realise, there is a whole world of musically theory that opens up playing over the changes that musically challenged people such as much self may be able to grasp due to the 'simplicity' of the blues. It's as complicated or simple as you chose to make it. The most important aspect of this style is feel and bass/melody accompaniment. I am willing to bet most guitar players that learn electric lead playing or play metal and rock would not be able to rock this style, as most neglect the importance of rhythm and targeting chord tones over chord changes. This guy right here is an absolute master, having met and studied with the best, documenting their repertoire and carrying on the tradition here. He is probably the best resource for this stuff that you can find, he has literally been there and done it. This lesson right here combines so many different elements and styles, you can here a lot of lightnin' hopkins in this slow blues but also contains some sweeter sounds as he targets the major 3rd over some of the changes. I am still a novice in this style so I can't pinpoint exactly what other influences are in this song, but I can assure you that it contains a very pure and complete, distilled combination of phrases and influences. Probably the only lesson you would ever really need to play a slow blues in E
@@Keef335i HAVE PURCHASED LESSONS FROM STEFAN GROSSMAN . HE CERTAINLY PLAYS EFFORTLESSLY AND I RECOMMEND THEM, TO ANYONE. ROBYN
this makes me smile... what a tutorial.. thank you very much for sharing this beautiful play
OK, this is the 2nd song I am going to OBSESS over until I get it.
The 1st song was a ONE-OFF I picked up elsewhere and it took a long time.
Your tab for this is FANTASTIC !! 🎸
I am a Brazilian Guitar - non professional one - who loves to play and compos some songs in the blues styles. Thanks you Stefan for your sounds. It's great to have you in the youtube. Thank you guy.
The first country blues I learned was from a Stefan Grossman book called Texas Blues found in a guitar shop in Oakland. A lifetime of Lightning' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb and more ensued. Thank you Stefan Grossman!
Imagine you can get down on that strings and wood
What an incredible teacher you are! Thank you so much!
Excellent. I don't know how you make everything look so effortless. It seems like how blues should be played, laid-back.
Wow. This is probably one of the better blues guitar lessons that I have ever seen on RUclips and I've been playing guitar for several years watching countless videos. He gives so many ideas on this video that it can be watched over and over and over again
this could go on forever...
What a beautiful sound ... i love this. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you--I have your book for 45 years, nice to finally learn some stuff
always a pleasure to come back to this. wonderful playing and understanding.
such a super lesson. So soulful too...thank you and wishing you all the best.
As always...thanks Stefan...you always give me that boost forward.
Thank you! I'm trying to grasp this blues thing and this really helps. Saved this to my favorites! I'll be practicing!
If you don't learn off this guy then give up! The clearest lesson I've seen yet and it makes something which sounds so good look so easy.
Now for the next lesson!!
Great vid! thank you. I love the blues.
I think I've said this before but it merits repetion: this guy is just pure class. Awesome playing and an awesome lesson. Particularly like the "Alright!" at 1.50. Serweeet!
so relaxed, so clean, superb stuff.
So cool and I love Bonnie Raitt Blues 'love me like a man' although can't play exactly like she plays that song it still has the feel with the chords you just showed. Thanks for that very cool😎
Just plain awesome !
How cool is this, Stefan Grossman giving us lessons Fantastic eh. Playing rhythm and lead at the same time is always very tricky and takes hours and hours of practice, but it's worth every minute. The easy way to learn I believe, is to break it down to very small pieces and remember Never Give Up, go to a mirror and tell yourself everyday, I'M GOING TO DO THIS, then practice at least 2 hours a day or even 6 hours WHATEVER it takes. Thank you Stefan for sharing your talent, it's deeply appreciated by all of us who LOVE playing guitar.
yea...lead and rhythm is har stuff.
My first footsteps in the blues.
Thanks. A great teacher.
Vincenzo.

WOW! This looks like about 6 months of material here... I'm on it. So very much thank you Stefan!
Excellent stuff, great turnaround licks ideas, very helpful. Btw the playing is flawless , smoothie and soothing
i enjoyed this lesson and am having fun getting back into acoustic blues.
Dear Stefan, I bought a record and a book on how to play blues guitar from you in 1967. It is what really got me started with finger picking, and was very good. Thank you.
Very nice Stephen. I'm a 30 year blues learner. I say learner because I feel you're never %100. You may feel like it a few nights but we're always learning. I mean 30 years, I've toured I've played in bands like forever but I'm always open.
Thanks!
So true man!! You're never finished with discovering new riffs and stuff! And thats why I love and will always love playing the blues😍
so good and explained so well thank you for passing on your knowledge!
Only a blues master can make something look so simple and sound so elegant.
Cannot take time to listen to this yet, but must give my regards. Many thanks for partnering in various ways with Reverend Gary Davis. You were very lucky to do so and many folk are very lucky that you did!
This guy is an excellent player and an excellent teacher. No secrets. I will be picking up that three DVD package as soon as I can scrape up the cash! What a great deal!
Thank you Mr. Stefan Grossman !
The How To Play the Blues series (1-3) is a classic example of talented play meeting with the gift of teaching. It should be in every guitarist's library.
Sharing knowledge makes us all better people. Thanks Stefan for the the great lesson. SW.
Thank you Stefan for your lesson. You are a very nice guy and very good teacher.
a terrific teaching. part of a nice foundation for a solid blues guitar/rock guitarist.
Great licks... I love the blues, but never felt like I could handle this kind of playing. This feels within my range of capabilities. I can't wait to start playing like this. WOW... Thanks, yur the man.
So beautiful.. True blues. Historic.
I've seen you for just 3 minutes and you allready got yourself stored in my favourites! Nice to see you understand your music!
Kind of music you play on a drunk night sittin' with your friends next to a fire and sing about world's misery (probably about some damn fine girl...)
Thanks mate!
That was awesome. Love hearing you play.
