right the older humvees were only around 5200 lbs in base configuration. H2 are about 6600-6800 depending on options and aftermarket stuff. H1's were around 7000-7200. And H2 would move the boulder easier, more power more weight.

The H2 is just soooooo cheezy. It’s a re-bodied Tahoe on 35s. Has fake hood grill, fake cowl air intakes, fake airlift hooks, and tons of other unnecessary plastic junk glued all over it. They were made for golfers that wanted a “badass truck” but couldn’t handle the rough, sparse attributes of a real truck.

I've driven the hell out of Hummers, never broke down. Had a mortar take out a tire and had a few 7.62X39 holes put in one of them, but it kept on rolling. The weak link in the desert is the air filter. Gotta keep that clean. On the standard H1 those vinyl doors never stay shut though. almost everyone has boot bands keeping them closed. Never figured how we could make a bomb that can go through a gnats ass at miles away but can't make a door that stays shut.

@@michaelconran5252 If it makes you feel any better, the civilian doors shut, and stay shut... but then over time will.. not open. Because you see the rods connecting the door lock actuators, the handle and the lock/latch were not up to the task - and end up bending themselves over time. One day you'll go to unlock your truck and... one door won't unlock. You fix it and the next day, the door opposite has the same problem.

I overland offroad all the time with my son and being able to drive cross country at highway speeds as well as ready available parts is a big factor. The fastest way to revive an H1/Humvee in 2020 is do a drivetrain swap with a new 6.6 duramax and a 6/10 speed. Turns it from an old, inefficient millitary vehicle into a viable tow vehicle/offroader. This 6.2 diesel is rated for 165hp and 330lb-ft of torque, and this is the high output version. The standard was 130hp and 240lb-ft. Amazing how GM's 1.6 turbodiesel puts out more hp and torque than this monster now.
The H2 is half suburban 1500 half suburban 2500. It was a really interesting hackjob from GM and personally I think there needed to be a HD tahoe on this frame as well (plus that 8.1 in a tahoe woulda been amazing)

Being in the Military I've thrashed around my fair share of HUMVEE and I will say that Soldiers just beat the crap out of them and they just continue to keep on truckin. If I had the land I would totally get a surplus one and try to convert it to be registered I know there is a Place in Utah that sells and registers them, but I think it's for off road only? They aren't the most comfortable trucks and are SLOW as molasses on a cold winters day but they will get you though pretty much anything if you know how to drive one and use the gearing. Way back in my Army days. I learned to drive the humvee more like a mini-tank and less like a “crawler of rocks”. I feel the humvee could have gone 15-30 mph faster on the same terrain the h2 would have to navigate slower. This video did not capture the coolness of having a real humvee vs an h2. It was more like the humvee hosted a dance party but out of respect for its guest wouldn’t dare bust a move and show-up. Great video, severely underplayed the capability of the humvee

This isn't an H1. It's a HMMWV. A H1 has an interior to speak of. It also has a bit more creature comforts like a 4 speed transmission :D You can go check out the TFL At home video I did of my H1 to see some of the differences between this truck and an H1. ruclips.net/video/7wiksi1B6t4/видео.html

As @@nothingtoseaheardammit said, yes. The H1 is the model sold via civilian dealerships, with all the creature comforts. While his HMMWV is a true military surplus vehicle, and is about as bare bones as it can be.

11:00 It's not weird. The hubs are for the necessary gross vehicle weight rating and the smaller axle is for the low towing capacities. My 98 ram 12v cummins nv4500 truck cam with a dana 80 hybrid axle. Was a dana 80 differential to handle the torque, but had dana 70 hubs because it was a 2500 and had lower GVWR capacities.

H1s and Humvees break a lot of stuff offroad! I have been a Trail Guide for multiple runs with my H2 on 38s leading H1s on 42s, I did everything they did without breaking! Yes my H2 has upgraded Kyrptonite Steering and a Front Locker but I was up and over stuff and waiting at the top while the H1s snapped halfshafts, ball joints and even exploded transfer cases. The Point is that every truck has it's weak points, sadly the H1s have a bunch of them and the parts are ridiculously expensive! As well, the driver has a major part to play in whether an Offroad rig lives or dies!

    • @nothingtoseaheardammit
      @nothingtoseaheardammit 3 года назад +1

A lot of H1 owners buy their trucks thinking that they're indestructible - then do stupid stuff like upgrade their tire size without upgrading their half shafts, stub shafts and gearing. It's no different than if you took any other vehicle and jacked iit up to put giant tires on it - expecting that it will be just as reliable as it was from the factory. There's on particular H1 shop (*cough*Predat*COUGHCOUGHCOUGH*) that particularly preys on the un-educated H1 owner.

    • @PolarBear00777

@@nothingtoseaheardammit Yes Very True! However, even with 12100 half shafts the H1s can still shear the diff output shafts or pinion gear...seen it several times! And Yeah I am not a fan of PRED**** either, I guess they are exactly as their name says! Stick with Mod Mafia or Rubber Duck for H1 stuff!

You can thank GM for that. It was 2007 and the "fit hit the shan" as it were - the 2006's were the "Alpha" H1's with the Duramax engines in them... then GM found out that - as a company - the were broke - and the Hummers (all of them) bit the proverbial dust. AM General lost the marketing and engineering support from GM to further develop the Alpha platform so it just stopped.

Just a point of history here. The HUMVEE replaced the M151A2 Jeep. It also replaced the 3/4 ton trucks M37 3/4 ton (WWII Korea) and the M561 Gama Goat Vietnam era trucks (had to swim). The original requirement was for high mobility that is why this version of the truck is very light weight and had be moved by the CH47 Helicopter internally and sling loaded. Early years of HUMVEE production was for the filling the light duty truck fleet shortages during the cold war and later years after the 1st Gulf War.
Recommend a TFL truck video would be repeat this trail with today's Jeep (standard transmission) vs the M151A2.
However, a TFL Truck mud trail video with the M561Grama Goat vs the say a F150 would be great theater as well.

My personal gripe with the H1 is that I'm 6'7" and it's just not comfortable. It definitely ticks all the boxes for me for doing work around the farm and dealing with mud, snow and off road but I just can't fold myself up enough to live with it every day. If the seat moved another 8 to 12 inches back maybe. Shame since I definitely have a use for one.

H2 body panels are an extra 2mm thick vs any other civilian vehicle on the road.
H2 has a heavily Modified heavy duty 2500/3500 Truck Frame .
    Tahoe/Suburban axles are 5 lug nuts, H2 has 8.
H2 came with 35in tires standard.
Google this info for more differences ( such as a unique Borg Warner transfer case specifically designed for the H2 in 2003 , which Ford put in the Raptor in 2017) etc.

One thing I don't get on the H2 since they used the H1/M998 as a starting point, was why they had the hood latches stay on the hood. It looks like they did it right on the old M998, they stay on the body, probably that way on all of them. When you go to close the hood on the H2, the straps always get in the way because they dangle from the hood. I'm going to see at some point if there's an easy way to reverse the straps on my H2, so they stay on the body not the hood.
