  • When should you move your chicks outdoors? Newly hatched chicks need a temperature of 95 degrees and as the chicks get older, you decrease that temperature by 5 degrees each week. It's important to introduce the chicks to the native soil before moving them outdoors! In this video we go through all of these details and more to ensure your chicks are safe outdoors!

The chick your holding in the beginning looks so much like an eagle! No tail or huge wings but it's head is almost identical to an eagle.

Great summary. Great to see how you manage the details!
Maybe I missed it, but I am interested on how you and others are decision-making due to avian flu risks. My birds are, regrettably, spending much of the year inside due to so much wild bird activity on my property. I envy your birds being able to get out into your green spaces!

I missed this comment! I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner. We didn't do anything special, we just made sure to remove the wild bird feeders we had outdoors! I hope you were able to figure out a manageable solution for your flock ❤

@@MasonDixonAcres Thanks for the follow-up! We did let the flock out in late summer, but during fall we had so many migrating birds, including thousands of blackbirds and also a few varieties of waterfowl over our property, so our chickens have had to stay inside again. Maybe I can tarp over their run areas this coming spring. Thanks for sharing the ideas from how you are managing.
