First time I listened to this song I was thinking "Why are the people in the game crying..? it's not THAT touching..." then towards the end of the song I too started tearing up like a baby.. and punching the closest wall, to man up, didn't help :')

I am blown away by how perfectly you played this song.
It's very rare to find video games that has good stories, soundtrack and detail of it... absolutely rare... when i found the witcher 3 and played to the end... i call it a wonderfull masterpiece

Just revisiting this peace after trying to learn it a few years ago. I really forgot that even though it's rather slow and melancholic, it's this is not easy to play for me at all. Lots of work for the pinky. Respect for performing such a clean version.

Also, you NEED to play this game sometime. I warn you that it will take months of your life. It's easily one of my top 3 favorite games of all time. It's probably the best RPG I've ever played. It might take you a while to get into the game, but once you're hooked, you stay hooked. The story, the gameplay, the world, the music-it's all top-notch.

Is there someone schooled in music here able to tell me or at least point me towards what is it that makes medieval fantasy tavern music sound like medieval fantasy tavern music? Like, from a theoretical/morphological standpoint.
I know! Subjectivity!
Is the pre-baroque style
Dunno, but skyrim's tavern music and a lot of witcher songs are in D minor. Try looking up the scale online then improvise a bit on the piano using only the notes of the scale. Throw in a few chords whose notes exist in the scale ( for example A minor) and you're good to go. You will never sound "bad" this way but only skilled people know how to phrase and make sense of what they are playing.
And as with anything, practice makes perfect. Nore that i'm not the best at this stuff and an ACTUAL teacher might give more meaningful insight. Especially if you are a beginner.
As Mushu pointed out many medieval songs are played in minor. However, that's not always the case as when the song is in the major scale it often sounds like a heroic medieval piece (think church music). What I feel distinguish medieval or "baroque" from the modern style is the swinging or "sway" feeling in the songs, you will also often find a lot of arpeggios and the time signature can often be written in 3/4. Many times the song ending is similar to its beginning. Oh, and there is also a lot of drop-D tuning (simulating the low bass of the lute).
1) The tone of nylon strings.
2) A regular rhythmic arrangement where one note is played on each 4/4 beat, giving a bouncy medieval feel.
3) Syllabic vocals
4) Timbre of voice
