- This video is of the game Kid Chameleon where I attempt to clear the Bloody Swamp stage, I haven't played this game since I was 8, when my dad bought it for my Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis.
The whole level has been made to instantly kill you if you even hesitate for a second, the controls are very slippery and loose which adds to the difficulty and finally the level designers were downright mean with the obstacles.
Video quality suffered since it was part of a recording block and the game has 100 levels, so I had to record in lower quality

When the player finally gets through "Hills of the Warrior I" and thought this nightmare was over, this specific tune begins to play after the level intro screen... damn
Game Story: "There's one kid who is simply too tough to beat."
Bloody Swamp: "Sure, whatever you say buddy."
I still get emotionally and physically drained hearing this music... I need a drink

I forgot about this level. Dear god did it drive me insane as a kid. I would build up so many lives and continues just to watch them peel away in minutes.
Sega really likes advancing walls of doom.
A little advice for the "bouncy stairs" part: Do NOT run ! You gotta go through it slowly in order to avoid bouncing too much. (don't be too slow though, or you'll get killed by the murder wall.) I just played this level several hours ago and beat the level on my second try doing this :)
I little jump at these bouncy stairs could do the job to, BUT I has to be precise, I remember to way to go through them 1) high jump to the top to get some speed boost directly to the bottom of the stairs, 2) little jump to the ground without touching any bouncy stairs....
I run then quickly turn left and stop moving, then sprint right.
I slow down until half way into the stairs then go fast
I hated this fucking level with a passion!! Thanks for the memory bro. Awesome game!! Kids today will never know the tragedy no save file. Just continues and GAME OVER!
I knew what it was as soon as I saw the thumbnail. Final Marathon was a pain in the ass too.
Oh man I hated this level but love the game- usually warped past most of the levels, probably so many I never seen. Would love a modern remake of this game in HD or a sequel.

And he almost saved the Cyclone helmet. In other words: BUMMER! 😁😁😁😁
That's the hardest thing with this game, on your first attempt you can almost finish the level but when you lose your helmet and try again here begins a real quest to get back your dignity ^^
Cyclone helps make this level a lot easier, but good luck hanging onto it if you've never played the level before
My advice is to avoid the level. If I recall there are only two ways to get to this level, which are the warps in Blizzard Mountain (One of the developers was quoted as to saying this was a 'noob trap' and to take the flag instead) and the secret warp in Hoverboard Beach. When I am playing multiplayer on this with friends we always try to avoid this level, but then you got the nasty stage 4 levels to worry about after.
This was the level that would stop me and my mom when we would play this when I was a kid. Took years after to finally beat this game. Such a classic.
I’m glad this game got a little fame here. Always lived kid chameleon. Underrated game.
This is why i love this game......its so unforgiving. I remember when I was in like kindergarten or 1st grade when i got the game on cartridge.
I managed to beat Labyrinth zone from 1st Sonic game with only 3 or 4 attempts.
I managed to beat Clone Factory stages from X-Men 2: Clone Wars without getting Game Over once.
I even managed to beat "Welcome to the machine" stage from Ecco the Dolphin (only once, but still).
But this stage... I have never beaten it. It is literally the only stage to completely break me. I have never replayed this game since. 10 years later and it's still too soon.
I can't remember which Ecco game it was, but the vents of medusa map. That was pretty nasty.

This makes Forced Entry look easy
I remember that level fondly, really skimpy on the powerups too. On Diamond Edge if you take the warp furthest to the right (quite hard to do without gem shield power) you should avoid the level. Just don't take the upper right warp there, because that leads to an elsewhere level that is pure hell.
got my eyes dried (no blinking) just by watching 😂 good memories… such a f’ed up level not even an emulator can save you, you’ll be like saving every second of progress until you realize you saved in a death-or-death spot, forcing you to start it all over again 🤗
I've chosen a different path where I could skip that level. Scrolling levels were a pain.

I remember ALWAYS using the warp pad to avoid this level. If I ended up on ot it was a guaranteed loss and potential cartridge smash 😆
Awesome game. We got Streets of Rage 4, a remake of this would be absolutely incredible

My parents got me a Sega genesis In 2005 and the games I played on there like Flicky, golden axe, And kid chameleon are still the best games I have played to this day.

I had that Genesis system that needed batteries and had Sonic the Hedgehog, Kid Chameleon, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Flicky loaded into it
I did too and you had to plug in the yellow and white cables to the TV. Hell I still have that, don't use it anymore, but I still have it :p

I think I went through at least two Genesis controllers and a couple groundings for punching out walls during the 90s from Kid Chameleon
This fucking level!! I smashed up my Megadrive when I was 14 because of it - still haven't ever passed this level. Just watching this video is giving me the old tingles of fury up my spine and over my scalp...
If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention...
If you see the level 'Frosty Doom', you're guaranteed to play this level. I love the fact that they called the level Frosty Doom, it's as if they knew how much of an ass Bloody Swamp is.

Go into this level with Skycutter from the ice level before. If you don't time the first spike blocks right (after the wrestlers) then you'll get trapped. What helps is getting intentionally stuck at the first disappearing wall, on fast-speed mode it will time you right every time. Skycutter will just glide right down those rubber stairs and then the rest is just timing the moving walls. If you're playing on a collection or emulator then save at the beginning with Skycutter so you can practice.
I never thought Kid Chameleon would be that much of a kickazz game!
I am watching this with my Wife next to me who is sleeping, so the sound is off. I haven’t played this game in well over 20 years, and I didn’t need the volume to hear that music again. It all came back including every “DIE!” Fuck that level!

@heelice If you have trouble on it, i recall there is an invisible block with the fly power up and you don't need the guy who can reveal blocks to get it, the location is above some ghost blocks near the start that are in a line, you should hit the left most space underneath the ghost blocks to get it. But even with the power up the level is still painful. At least if you get to Alien Isle you know you're nearly at the end of the game.
I personally had a shitter time with the level, "forced entry"...... but this level is totally lame. i hate it.
I'd wager The Final Marathon was harder, but god damn, Bloody Swamp drained so many hours of my life over the years!
I hate that jump with the downward bumps. There are a couple of ways to do it but both require really precise inputs. Nothing beats the frame rng of that block that lets you progress though. :(
There were so many levels in this game that I don't even remember this one. The only chase stage I remember is where you have to make a choice at the end. Either go up top to the flag or get stuck on the bottom.
This game was my childhood. And this level use to put me on fucking edge. I bought the sega collection on 360 a few years back just for this game. Timeless.

I played this game so many times, that I could beat this level 100% of the times. Still, the fact of a wall of lethal spikes running after me and the thrilling song was enough for me to never call this stage "easy".
Actually, even Hills of the warrior, cheap as it is still gives you some adrenaline. Back when I first played this game, I thought "what if this hell will pursue me in another stage?" Then I met Forced Entry with that cheap dead end in the final. "Finally, free at last" I beat the game some time after, but then I replayed getting this route. I ran on game over 5 times before beating it for the first time...

Bro!!! This is the stage I got stuck on as a kid. I actually called the walkthrough help number on the box to get some help or tips but some guy just read a desription of the level from a gamepro or something!
I remember this level....as soon as I saw "bloody swamp" I knew It was a wrap for my continues but after a few years later (2010" I completely dominated this level without panicking with ease.

You probably never played Battle Squadron on Mega Drive :-). There every bit of every level is simply impossible to pass. Alright, the first screen is passable. Then it all starts.
"Forced Entry" is also very hard, but Bloody Swamp is pretty terrible. Those damned rubber blocks....

+chuckobscure people who like to make hard levels at super mario maker should really play Kid Chameleon. I lost years of my youth playing all my lives and continues for hours trying to beat Forced Entry. It's madness. Cheers!
Hills of the Warrior 1 is the first time you get PTSD from this music track.
@talidemon Forced Entry isn't too bad, just avoid getting the tank powerup and avoid going for the flag. I love how the sign saying 'too bad' scrolls into view if you fail to warp on that one. Forced Entry can be easily skipped if you crawl below the flag in the alien forest level before it, there's a hidden warp there that takes you past that level.
There's also a clock power up at the end of the level! Such an evil gag!!

I couldn’t beat this game. I played it like crazy. I was probably about 10 years of age.
@heelice Spare a thought for me, I used my Genesis to do these recordings. When I play through the game I do try to do the 100k run and from there taking the secret exit in that forest level with the aliens, that way you get to avoid forced entry and cliffs of illusion. The trick to avoiding Bloody Swamp is to not take a warp in Blizzard Mountain (Because it leads to frosty doom and then bloody swamp). As far as I know, Alien Island isn't avoidable.

I remember that one....pretty hard though, but sometimes you jump for no reason...jumping increase your speed if you have nothing above you but decrease it if you hit something...
To succeed easier you need to make a little jump on the rubber blocs you encounter at 2mn43, it give you a little speed boost that make the difference at the end.
Always need a few continues for this level. Only once in all my years playing it have I passed it on the first try.
Usually just try to avoid this level if possible.

I have never beat this, and just the title feels validating (I mean I also suck at videogames, but I normally just take twice as long). This might be my favorite game...
It's a lot of fun despite the savage difficulty curve.

I had the most trouble with hills of forever not any of the main level but as soon as u start off there are like 3 mini skulls jumping at you and flying dragons that the devs made soooooooooooooooo smart and its just aggravating.
Bloody swamp was a legend in the 90s and very difficult. However, when I met The Final Marathon (before final boss) I found the level insane :) but bloody swamp is always on my heart :D
Gotta love the platforms that fall *upwards* and somehow crushes you against the sky.

One of my favorite Genesis games, but I've never come close to beating it. Probably never will!
I have livestreamed this game a few times, but the level that gives me the most trouble is Alien Isle. Bloody Swamp is a level where I either complete it first try or get a game over.
So: how did i finish this game 30 years ago?
It's been a loooong time since I've played this game but seem to remember that you can cruise right over the top of everything with the Cyclone, you don't even need to play through the obstacles?
Not true. Though there are some levels where you can do that.

I personally thought "the final marathon" was the hardest level in this game. This one I got it in my third try; final marathon, probably about 30 tries 🤣
There's a SEGA game I know of I think is harder than this, called Crackdown. Your man is a government agent setting time bombs to destroy installations of a KAOS-like organization out to take over the world. But you have areas where new enemies keep coming out of compartments after you kill them and it can't be kept clear, genetically enhanced mandrill enemies that jump back and forth unpredictably so you can hardly hit them with a shot, and sets of electro-friers that send you back to the start if you miss one in a set of three. I'd also rather try my hand at Kid Chameleon than Comix Zone, or The Immortal.
The Immortal made a purchase of a punching bag necessary for me back in the day.
The death wall appeared on hills of the warrior I got so frustrated on the level that I nearly broke my controller during rage quit

Also why did they call it bloody swamp I never made it this far in the game plus I don't have a mega drive I have the classic version of the Sega I never got a chance to listen to the music in the classic version the crystal crags stage sucks I got stuck on it for 3 hours why me I never heard of the game until I turned 12 I played it and it was fun when it gets to the hard levels im like I'm done I quit I give up

When I was a kid I got lucky and beat this level pretty easily. Just got this game the other day and I can't beat it.
I am 24. I have still yet to beat this game. I made it all the way to Bloody Swamp and wasted every single continue and life I had on this level. Almost beat this level and was squished on the last block...........
You didn't even beat it. Just watching this makes my blood boil. I hate this video for simply watching it infuriated me. Playing this myself would've made go into suicide watch.
Cyclone pwns... that's one of the best powerups in the game... and you died with it... I would be ragequitting right now because I only get cyclone from the beach warp in Highwater pass II (yes I usually only get to Crystal Crags II with shortcuts and then die there for some reason.)
it's not that bad once you know the rhythm of the disappearing walls and not to run when at the second bouncing blocks segment.
I felt a sense of accomplishment about this last week. I beat Bloody Swamp without dying (no shitting), and I also beat Stardust Speedway 3 on Sonic CD (the one where you have to race Metal Sonic to the end) in one life also. Childhood dreams realized at age 32.

Ugh.......this stage...... I HATE this stage! got past it on my 6th try with some luck (and a prayer). Luckily i had 16 lives going into this place :D. Got to Monster Island later on and that pissed me off. all those blue jumping things and those guys that blocks everything.... plus the ghost heads. D:
I stumbled across this level accidentally...trust me, it's every bit as frustrating as it's rumored to be, and then some. However, I did have some fun with it and Livestreamed my attempts to beat the level...which included me freaking out when I finally did XD
