You're my new favourite reviewer. So much detail but consistently and somehow consisely delivered. Easy to listen to and focus on. Honest and professional. Good technical knowledge.
Got this baby about a week ago and I'm really impressed. It was between this one and an X1 Yoga, but BIOS and battery life issues as well as mixed keyboard experiences steered me away from Lenovo this time around. It's got one of the best touchpads as far as Windows machines go and it's one of the few that don't make me reach for a mouse right away. The display is stunning despite the mediocre view angles (probably due to the SureView feature) and the battery life has been great so far. Unfortunately, not all of the bloat software is useful. After troubleshooting non-working Windows updates for hours on end I finally got it working by uninstalling SureClick. Also, whoever thought removing the clip from pens needs to be shot. Another thing Apple started and immediately everyone else followed. I have no idea who'd be bothered by that tiny friggin clip, but I sure as hell can tell you that it's really annoying when you wear a shirt or jacket and have no way of storing that pen properly. The only solution was to buy the older Active Pen on top of the one that comes with it. That said, the older pen comes with a nice AAAA battery as well and won't bother you with charging year-round. I guess the move to rechargeable pens came from the same guy who removed the clip. May he rot in hell.
@@reneealams Hi, if you got yourself a SureView screen, it would be normal that it's a bit more grainy. That seems to be due to the privacy function that lets you keep out prying eyes that try to look at your screen slightly off-angle.
Lisa, very helpful video. Enough technical details to make an informed choice, but not overwhelming. Plus, you're a wonderful presenter! Thanks very much.
Thank you for covering this laptop Lisa and fantastic review as always. I recently returned a Spectre (bought for business use) and found the thermal throttling was appalling despite the fan spinning up regularly so it's great to see the better cooling solution and cinebench variance with the Elitebook. One thing not covered in the review is how well the trackpad integrates with Windows. I found the driver used with the Spectre doesn't support Windows precision features (e.g. three finger swipe to change desktop). Personally I found the palm detection with the Spectre overly aggressive and it would appear to lockup until I'd adjusted the smartsense configuration manually.
For anyone from the future looking at this : HP uses a nonstandard 15V4.33A charging setup, so it wont work with any generic USB PD charger, or rather - it will, but won't charge at full speed.
The level of conciseness and detail in your videos are phenomenal. I also love you get right to the point. I do wish some of the terms were described a little more in Laypeople terms. Not a critique. Hey, I've got question. I cannot decide between buying the HP Elite-book x360 1030 G3 (700 nits FHD display) with an core i7 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD or the Surface Laptop (gen 1) with an i7 (+ Intel plus graphics 640) 16 GB RAM and 512 GB. I'd also like to play small games form time to time (e.g. Minecraft), but i think both are good enough when it comes to something like this, right?
I do like this Elitebook. I am not a fan of these 2 in 1 type of laptops. I highly enjoy my Latitude 5491 with the more powerful i5 8400h and Nvidia graphics. Yeah sure probably not as portable and I wouldn't call it a gaming laptop by any stretch but as a power users laptop it does make even the XPS 13 seem a little more ordinary. What I do like about this 2 in 1 here however is the far more powerful CPU. Dells 2 in 1 currently don't offer a U series cpu to my knowledge and so this is a more appealing unit. Plus I love the build quality. HP has always impressed me with their use of aluminum, and at one time Dell had this tri-metal design that for a time outshined it slightly, but now their cases are made from magnesium much like the Thinkpads. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is tough. But it's not as premium looking or feel as aluminum. It's a shame given the high price points of these laptops.

I can't comment on the Spectre line but the Elitebook line has been very reliable for the company I work for. We don't have a ton of these, maybe 15 being used, but I do know over 5+ years of various versions of Elitebooks we've never replaced one because it died. They were either stolen or just too old. I just replaced my 6 year old 8460P with the G2 versions of the laptop in this review. It was quite the upgrade for me. Yeah. Tbh with these computers, companies buy them not so much for ease of repairing, but rather based on the company/manufacturer offering on-site repair service. How easy it actually is for the hp/lenovo/etc repairman to fix the thing, doesn't really matter from the company's perspective... because they ain't gonna pay the internal IT department people to fix laptop hardware.

Do company’s do Easter or saint Patrick’s day sales like Presidents’ Day?
Great review, but dam $1700 !!!!!
So many Ryzen mobile devices have hit the shelves this year... can we get a review or two on the performance of those devices instead of these redundant Intel reviews that basically all have the same 8250u/8550u guts?
so many? ive only seen 3. dell acer and hp each had 1 variant with them. you're right its crazy hard to see much for reviews on any of them. there are some gaming comparisons, where its right around a mx150, but not much else about it
