- Lisa Gade reviews the HP Elitebook X360 1030 G3, the 13.3” Windows 10 convertible laptop business counterpart to HP’s Spectre x360. The design and premium styling are very similar to the early 2018 Spectre x360, but the business model gets a few perks like optional 4G LTE Advanced, several security features, more ports than the latest gen Spectre x360, a Wacom AES pen and an optional privacy screen that’s enabled at the press of a button. The 2-1-in1 convertible Ultrabook has 360 degree hinges, a metal body, backlit keyboard, USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, a Microsoft Precision trackpad and your choice of Intel 8th generation Kaby Lake R Core i5 and i7 quad core CPUs. It’s available with bright FHD and 4K displays.

Does the HP elite book 1030 x360 g3 come with a pen as well?
Can we perform coding and web development on this?
As a graphic designer can I get this
It even has with 2 m.2 SSD with write speeds of 1800MB/s and 2600/MBs read speed
Possibly one of the best reviewers all time. Simple, informative, succinct, advice. Well done
Hello! Can I leave the HP Elitebook X360 1030 G3 plugged in when it is fully charged?
How does it compare with the x390 yoga though?
I have bought this laptop near 3 years but resently its screen is crapping on screen. How can i solve this problem?
For anyone from the future looking at this : HP uses a nonstandard 15V4.33A charging setup, so it wont work with any generic USB PD charger, or rather - it will, but won't charge at full speed.
full LCD screen without a nits I think is a matrix display
Can I used this laptop for data engineering????
Awesome review
Wow....a really bright screen and dual fan cooling make this a sooper compelling choice knowing summer is always coming here in Las Vegas. Strange the things that influence people's choices beyond OS or brand. Thanks for this. Your content is consistently on a higher level.
Should I get the 13.3 inch of 14 inch version?
Who is selling it back ❤❤ i need one
Hi, can i use capcut on full power on this? Please reply thankss
Any overheating problems?
Lenovo Yoga 730 15 vs Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 ? Which one is better ?
The yoga
please review msi gf63
I bought it for 200 buks today 😅
Yes it's 5 years old but still, for just internet, school and study, It's perfect 😁
Is this better then the lenovo x1 yoga gen 4?
Is the pen magnetise to the laptop?
I like the specs and I can get one for 500 euro. Is this a steal or should I shop around? It largely for college work and reasonable gaming?
I'm sorry I'm italian and I have some difficulties understanding everything... concerning 4g/lte nano sim port, is it included in ALL model, or ONLY when there's the WWAN antenna? I ask this because in the italian store, it's specified that there's the port for the sim, but the antenna is not mentinoed. I asked the store and it seems they replys without really knowing what I need to know!!!!! The matter is that in italy we do not have the possibility to customize, so it's impossibile to understand this before getting the product.
how can you use the right click on a folder for example , with that trackpad?
because other laptops have buttons on the track pad
Click with two fingers..
How long does it battary last?
Got this baby about a week ago and I'm really impressed. It was between this one and an X1 Yoga, but BIOS and battery life issues as well as mixed keyboard experiences steered me away from Lenovo this time around. It's got one of the best touchpads as far as Windows machines go and it's one of the few that don't make me reach for a mouse right away. The display is stunning despite the mediocre view angles (probably due to the SureView feature) and the battery life has been great so far.
Unfortunately, not all of the bloat software is useful. After troubleshooting non-working Windows updates for hours on end I finally got it working by uninstalling SureClick. Also, whoever thought removing the clip from pens needs to be shot. Another thing Apple started and immediately everyone else followed.
I have no idea who'd be bothered by that tiny friggin clip, but I sure as hell can tell you that it's really annoying when you wear a shirt or jacket and have no way of storing that pen properly. The only solution was to buy the older Active Pen on top of the one that comes with it. That said, the older pen comes with a nice AAAA battery as well and won't bother you with charging year-round. I guess the move to rechargeable pens came from the same guy who removed the clip. May he rot in hell.
Are you still happy with battery life? Read some people are having problems with it. Could you maybe tell me what runtimes you get approximately?
Hi please is your display screen grainy cause mine is but I don’t know if it’s normal or it’s a problem
@@reneealams Hi, if you got yourself a SureView screen, it would be normal that it's a bit more grainy. That seems to be due to the privacy function that lets you keep out prying eyes that try to look at your screen slightly off-angle.
How can I know if i'm buying a HP spectre 2016,2017,2018,2019?
@2:57 you have pen setting. Whenever I pull up pen settings, it just gives basic like right click and that's it. I just got this laptop from my dad and bought this pen and struggling to get pressure sensitivity and was about to return it. But having that pen menu would be SUPER amazing lol
Lol at the tumblr and Fallout jokes. Great review as always!
I died on the fallout 76 as am thinking of buying it now 😂
I like Lesa's videos. She gives relevant information fairly quickly and shows the innards of the laptops so thumbs up for her work.
Could you please mention the affordable alternatives to this laptop with pen. Thanks
You're my new favourite reviewer.
So much detail but consistently and somehow consisely delivered.
Easy to listen to and focus on.
Honest and professional.
Good technical knowledge.
Hey, I've got question. I cannot decide between buying the HP Elite-book x360 1030 G3 (700 nits FHD display) with an core i7 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD or the Surface Laptop (gen 1) with an i7 (+ Intel plus graphics 640) 16 GB RAM and 512 GB. They both go for 999 Euros. IO is not that important for me (i don't need USB C Thunderbolt) as I only use USB A of which both only have one. So that's a tie for me. And the 360º hinge is nice but i wouldn't use it at all as i don't use the pen. (I'm a student). Plus, I love the color burgundy and in general the surface laptop design (much more than the one on the hp). The surface Laptop has my favorite keyboard in any Laptop. I'd also like to play small games form time to time (e.g. Minecraft), but i think both are good enough when it comes to something like this, right?
Hello, I use an Hp 840 G3,the motherboard got burnt and to replace it cost a lot, I’m thinking of getting a new one(affordable),would you recommended I get this 1030 G3 or you got a better recommendation?
I have the laptop in the games it’s becomes very hot and the high gaming graphics they lag
Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 planned to be reviewed by any chance?
is it possible to swap the cpu? an answer would be greatly appreciated :)
i need the laptop for music production
Cannot
some Questions, thanks in advance:
which one should I buy/choose for my clevo chasis with GTx1060 (as GPU is bottleneck then): 8700t 35W with 325$ or similar performance, i5 8600 but 65W with 224$? the reason I am asking is to get more battery life, and do you happen to know/saw any estimation on how many more hours I could get by using nearly half Wat CPU?
and it would work, right? a 35W CPU in 65W TDP Socket CPU?
again thanks
yes
Does it come with the pen or do I have to buy it myself?
How reliable are HP products? I might be getting a spectre soon. Do you guys recommend i5 or i7
I can't comment on the Spectre line but the Elitebook line has been very reliable for the company I work for. We don't have a ton of these, maybe 15 being used, but I do know over 5+ years of various versions of Elitebooks we've never replaced one because it died. They were either stolen or just too old. I just replaced my 6 year old 8460P with the G2 versions of the laptop in this review. It was quite the upgrade for me.
I do hate this trend of thinner, lighter which inevitably means less repairable. I was able to upgrade the processor on my 8460P because it was socketed! A socked CPU in a laptop is unheard of. Too bad this ins't the case for the newer Elitebooks.
John Long thank you!
The power button is the worst I’ve seen, impossible to tell if it’s on plus no hdd indicator light anywhere, makes it difficult to tell if the machines on/off/starting etc, one USB A is annoying when forced to use a USB dongle. Great keyboard, not a fan of the screen when on battery, seems dim even when brightness on max and screen guard off. Built in speakers are excellent 👍
we use these laptops at my school and they always stop responding, especially when watching videos
Lisa, very helpful video. Enough technical details to make an informed choice, but not overwhelming. Plus, you're a wonderful presenter! Thanks very much.
It's incredible how much better HPs are now than they were a few years ago. I have the 2017 Spectre x360 and it's amazing.
Thank you for covering this laptop Lisa and fantastic review as always. I recently returned a Spectre (bought for business use) and found the thermal throttling was appalling despite the fan spinning up regularly so it's great to see the better cooling solution and cinebench variance with the Elitebook. One thing not covered in the review is how well the trackpad integrates with Windows. I found the driver used with the Spectre doesn't support Windows precision features (e.g. three finger swipe to change desktop). Personally I found the palm detection with the Spectre overly aggressive and it would appear to lockup until I'd adjusted the smartsense configuration manually.
Dayum, Lisa throwing shade at FO76....
who isnt lol
Hmmm. I’m still thinking the diamond cut specter is the winner. This is tempting though. Now just do I want 13’ or 15
Hp spectre x360 15 (the "gem cut" design) in poseidon blue pleeaaase
Yeah I am waiting for that I just picked up the 13" this past weekend.
It's coming :)
@@mobiletechreview OMG YES! Will be waiting then
Thanks just trying to figure out how to take off the bottom I guess I have to peel off the rubber feet strips because I want to put my 960 Evo 1tb in it because mines came with a Toshiba 512gb . But this is my 3rd Spectre x360
@@antwoneb.9829 Usually with Spectres you have to remove the rubber strip to access the hidden screws- not my favorite "feature".
I like your reviews a lot. Spot on, all I need to know. Keep up!
you ever take a look at any ryzen laptops? ive had trouble finding much for how they are on the inside
Excellent review, first i saw from you! Good job!!
Another Solid from Lisa... 👌
Hi, Lisa. Thanks for the great review. Please do a review on the HP Elitebook x360 830 G6. Please offer detailed comparisons of the various laptops in the HP Elitebook series.
The privacy filter is called Sure View ;)
The G5 i7-8650U 16 GB 512 GB SSD runs about $2,143 via distribution.
Please do a review for the new HP Spectre X360 13 inch with the gem cut. Thanks...
Thanks. Believe it or not but I was praying for this review to happen.
I have this laptop, it is AMAZING :D
Just got one and im really impressed. High quality, display is phenomenal and crisp. system is fast....great laptop. im happy
@@Twiz4271 Got one. Matte screen. There is some vingetting on the SureView display (even with sureview off) and the matte coating is slightly noticable.
That being said, the machine is a joy to use.
@@SiriusXification Could you tell me about battery life? What times do you get? Am thinking about getting this laptop...
@@CopyRightOC Dunno, it lasts quite a long time. Like 4-6 hours for my usage which is pretty good.
@@SiriusXification Sounds decent, thanks so much!
Damn Lisa, your videos are the best
That Fallout Burn ;) . Looking at this for our Hardware refresh, great review!
Loved your Pararon sweater!
This my next laptop. Will work well with my egpu. Upgrading from 830 g5.
How about a vid or comparison of the 1030's bigger sibling, the Elitebook 1040 X360? They slightly larger display and presumably better cooling the larger device would have would make it a good choice for a lot of people.
"hello world!"
So many memories ❤️
Review please the Zbook Studio G5 !!
Gosh this is a hard decision. I can't spend 1k on a laptop. Then again Lenovo lets me down repeatedly with their ideapad which is so bad at connecting to wifi and i can't even save any software on their SSD as it's 'invisible' and only for the OS. I use an elitebook for work (820 g3) and the matte screen is awful (i need glossy all the way) and the keys a little too raised compared to lenovo which has the best 'keyboard' i have ever used. very light. I'd rather die than buy another lenovo so this is hard.
Expected
Holding up tech
Lots of words in rapid succession
Running out of breath at the end of sentences often ending with 'but' or 'so'
Sporadic eyebrow, eyelid and neck movement paired with oddly timed smiles
Lots of good information
Not disappointed.
@CJ Yeah I never used to notice lol
That's a nice stylus, anyone know if that would be compatible with the Elite X2 G1?
Could you do a review on the new hp spectre x360 the one with diagonal corners? It came out a month ago
1030 ? As in nvidia 1030?!
Eavenhascht Krauger lol
It's good to see that at least on this model HP are tackling their two biggest weaknesses. Overheating and too quiet. Looks like a good proposition now.
Do company’s do Easter or saint Patrick’s day sales like Presidents’ Day?
elitebooks gotta be best in class
thanks Lisa
Can you review the Lenovo IdeaPad 720S 14”? I think it’s a very underrated laptop with very good configurations for a low price
Hi Lisa,
thanks for the great review - could you comment on how the X360 would relate to the EliteBook 840 G5 and the Carbon X1? I am short of buying on of those for my work as a consultant and am quite unsure...
thanks in advance
Thomas
Please review the new spectre x360 15, preferably the poseidon blue variant.
In terms of the Specs of this Business Laptop the link to Amazon was a shocking surprise. 8GB Ram and 256gb SSD does not qualify the HP Elitebook X360 1030 G3 for Business use. A Business Analyst/Application Developer for example, would typically open 6 spreadsheets(of around 40mb in size each), 1 access database, a few web browsers (each for Development, Test and Production environments) and autocad and this would throttle after an hour of use followed with a 'not enough memory error!' message. The inability to upgrade RAM after purchasing it seals the fate of this machine.
How many business people use AutoCad as a default part of their job?
The current styling/features of the Elitebook X360 line is more to my liking. I really don't like the design of the latest HP Spectre X360's.
While the Spectres still look nice, and I like the angled ports on the clipped corners, HP got rid of the volume rocker on the side of the device. Having a volume rocker in the side of a convertible laptop is a huge selling point for me. When watching videos on a convertible laptop in tablet or display mode, I hate having to touch the screen to tweek the volume up or down a bit.
Great review. Such a nice machine.
How do you compare it to x1 yoga 3rd gen ,Lisa?
6:48 the jab at Tumblr and how there literally killing off 1/4 of all the porn on The internet.
U somehow still manage to keep up to date with the weirdness of internet when your so busy.
Love ya Lisa keep it up!!
You're the best Lisa... I always learn soo much about a product from your work Lisa. Would there be any chance that you would be reviewing the New Hp Spectre with i7 8750H ... Looking forward to your review and opinion on that particular product.. I have an attraction to get that product, design and power, all in one.. All that's missing is..A review from Lisa to give it a thumbs up go ahead.. Without that I'll look at her other recommendations.. Take care Lisa and have a nice day...
I love that glossy table ❤️
Review Request: HP Pavilion X360 15.6 (HP Model Number: 15-CR0037).
At 13.60x7.65 it may be the largest pen enabled "TABLET" display or the "Kindle" for those of us whose eyes are not as sharp as they used to be.
Wow.. Great review + an amazing laptop from HP. One question though, is that the only colour option?
The level of conciseness and detail in your videos are phenomenal. I also love you get right to the point. I do wish some of the terms were described a little more in Laypeople terms. Not a critique. Just an observation. Thanks for making the daunting process of navigating buying a new laptop in what seems like a sea of endless options more digestible and easier. New Subbie! 👍🏼
Nice. Business Laptop's drive and etc.. securities.. I didnt think people still keep ANY work files on laptop drives..?
Speaking of the Zbook line, I would love to hear your opinion of the HP Zbook Studio X360. I'm very interested in this laptop - it's almost perfect for my wants/needs.
This is actually not a bad looking laptop even by consumer laptop standard
I can only find a 8gig RAM version, not 16 gig. Deal breaker for me.
search for these Models: 4QY24EA, 4QY23EA, 4QY22EA
the sass is coming out in force today 😁...great review as always!
Cheers Lisa another great review. I had the G2 for a couple of weeks and call me picky but I didnt like it as the edges are SHARP! I liked the device but I use a tablet on site a lot and these small things can be a deal breaker. The one that I received had a line in the screen so I got a refund for it. I ended up with a Lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 which I love;-))
Cool reviewer. Thank you ......
Pavilion, Envy, Elite book, Spectre all do the same it's kinda confusing
I received this laptop for work. I had a choice of this laptop, a few Dell options, and a Macbook Pro. I chose this based on this review and spec. I had to write a review. This laptop is terrible. Performance is terrible, the fan won't stop running, the battery lasts only 4 hours. It locks up constantly. I want my Dell XPS 13 back. It was so much better.
Business laptops and displays are a bit of a mixed bag. You can get an awesome display, but it will cost more and most employers tell their IT department to buy the cheapest model, end of story, so you often get saddled with a 768p tn crapfest on your shiny new laptop.
ask me how I know...

CAnt wait to get mine! Hi Seppl
I do like this Elitebook. I am not a fan of these 2 in 1 type of laptops. I highly enjoy my Latitude 5491 with the more powerful i5 8400h and Nvidia graphics. Yeah sure probably not as portable and I wouldn't call it a gaming laptop by any stretch but as a power users laptop it does make even the XPS 13 seem a little more ordinary. What I do like about this 2 in 1 here however is the far more powerful CPU. Dells 2 in 1 currently don't offer a U series cpu to my knowledge and so this is a more appealing unit. Plus I love the build quality. HP has always impressed me with their use of aluminum, and at one time Dell had this tri-metal design that for a time outshined it slightly, but now their cases are made from magnesium much like the Thinkpads. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is tough. But it's not as premium looking or feel as aluminum. It's a shame given the high price points of these laptops.
