- Stan Dibben was “never frightened by speed.” After fighting in World War II he took up the sport of sidecar racing. In this popular sport of the time, riders and passengers would work together to maneuver “flying three-wheelers” (essentially motorcycles with attached one-wheeled devices) around a track. In 1953, Dibben won “the big one”-the World Sidecar Championship. This short film from Cabell Hopkins profiles one man's love for the thrilling and dangerous sport that influenced his “always say yes” philosophy on life.

Don't know why it took this long to come across this given my search history. Absolutly wonderful, a true gentleman and a man's man
same as
this is epic
The Old Outfits make modern Sidecars look like a 3 Wheeled Volvo!! They Sure had their Nuts Hangin' Out back in the Day!! Stanley your a Bloody Legend Mate!! -Cheers🍻🍺
old soldiers never die, they just fade away
Last of the Greatest Generation. What a wonderful man.
"If you look up the word "passenger" in the dictionary, it bears no resemblance to what I used to do in a side car."
That's funny.
If you EVER get the chance to go on one, TAKE IT !! I got a ride in the 80s at the TT... Respect, to those guys.
A true gentleman
Racing. Because Football, Basketball and Golf only require one ball.
What a WONDERFUL life he lead. So amazing to see this!
That's just wonderful!! Good for you Mr. Dibben! It seems you enjoyed your time as a racer and enjoyed talking about it. Thank you very much for your joy and enthusiasm!
Don't know what it is about music from the 30's, 40's and 50's that makes me feel nostalgia from a period I never got to experience.
25 years of age here.
veiroelle maybe you have an old soul , from the time when people were real , not like the fake people today , 😀
We come and go my dear
Tom and Jerry makes you feel that.
The music has been engraved on our brains.
I always felt the 'passanger' was the unsung hero of the team and I can recall the odd one who went along for the ride, but when part of real team, rider and passenger in harmony sidecar racing is the most amazing and underated sport, the trust between the two people on that outfit, Stan and Eric true heros.
14 this year and 13 next year, what a awesome philosophy, truly are Legend, I can only hope that I'm still going hard at 84!!!
And he only received a "silver" medal for being part of the winning duo & his name was also spelt incorrectly !
What an insult 😥
Yeah the passenger is just as important
Excellent short doco. He's an inspiration. Made my day.
Ride on sir! Thank you very much, it is not often we get to see champions like this get the respect & recognition they deserve.
Only the flesh ages, the soul stays young 😭
And the eyes stay young
@@sleepnumber6 it is said eyes are the windows of soul.
"I just rubbed my shoulder on the road and showed him the STONES"
What a frickin legend
'showered him with stones'
what a wonderful doc. love the vintage footage. thank you for telling this gentlemen's story.
awesome vid, good to see the ol chap get a chance to relive the ol days on a new side car racer!
Absolute legend, what a bloke!
Surely it's pure fun no fear after fighting in a war!true hero
What a legend! They dont build them like they used to.
R.I.P. Stan, a legend!
That’s called living life to the full
"always say yes"
With this one comment Stan showed me where i was going wrong in life. I'm too cautious.
this is history of the champion
Absolutely awesome !! People these days don't have half the guts of Stans generation.
BT sidecar racers are still around and just as big or bigger. You mean people with guts dont get the media attention anymore. Which why pop culture is plastic shite with sprinkles.
That's not true, they still do stuff like that. But very rare, not because it's rare but nowadays many options are available.
great vid ... he got to relive the excitement .... i really enjoyed the pics.... what a thrill it would have been to do what he did.... thank you
The passenger has the most exciting part ✌😻✌look at those beautiful moves, amazing!
Awesome video. One of my favorite videos I've watched in a long time. Keep up the awesome work!!
Everything about this era captured here is just beautiful. Never to be had again...
Shows how happy you can be if you never "short change" yourself.
Fantastic! It brought tears to my eyes. What an inspiration to anyone who thinks they are too old. Very well done. I really enjoyed it, and hope many others will watch it. Always say YES!
R. I. P. Dear Stan.
What a beautiful soul & a wonderful glint in his eye..... I bet he's been up to all sorts of mischievous business.
Great doc, great final titles as well. "joyus lunacy" amazing phrase. May we all strive to be slightly close to Stan's level of living life. Brilliant.
Absolutely astonishing, and what a lovely bloke he is too. Definitely should have received a gold medal 🥇.
Have respect for this guy,I wouldn't have the guts.
Looking this face of happiness you know he is a lucky guy. He knew from a young age what he was good at and he took advantage of it until he became a world champion. And very good philosophy by the way.
Live the high life. That's the idea. Thanks
Fabulous old time shots. Thank you.
these guys are brave ass bastards. I wouldn't have done it.
nice very nice indeed.... cool old man two thumbs up
It's good to see you happy in old age ! I am working thru transitioning from extreme sports highs to music and lower thrills . Still not sure if I want to live with pain every day
AWESOME.... God Bless this guy...No grass was growing under him...
Really cool video. The old WW2 generation of men was something special. I don't think their will ever be another like them.
Good on y'all for this one. Enjoyed it a lot.
La plus belle discipline moto ! Une pensée pour Robin Daykin !
amazing !
I love that smile. Awesome!!!
this is an awesome video.
One clue -motorbikers never get old.
Hats off to this fine gentleman.
Very nice tribute to Stan Dibben.
Such a bad-ass!
True badass!. Mellineals will never be this tough in 69 years.
RIP Mr. Dibben, glad to see you at least made it to '5!'
one word respect...
On my study wall, I have a plaque, which says, "you don't stop riding when you get old, you get old when you stop riding". I look at it each day, to make sure I don't forget that.
Yes, thank you... More please! 😁👍
Very nice documentary!
Lad must have a sling to hold those big balls lol, Jesus that's amazing courage!
He's got the minerals...
I'm going with a bushel basket.
Excellent Vid
A GREAT Bloke (& passenger) RIP old mate
Great bit of history, enjoyed it.
Amazing story!
good man, a real hero
Great video, great accomplishment.
I used to think sidecar racing was a joke (when I was little, seeing the music video from "Take on Me").
I thought "Oh why do they have the 3rd wheel, the passenger is just gonna sit there and watch?"
without understanding the race, and boy was I wrong...
...This shows me how ignorant I was...
Legend.
hell yeah. world champ !
Hats off to the guy
A life well lived.
CHEERS, MATE
The sense of freedom and G-forces are addictive.
I've read his book...Brilliant!
Well done mate, I have done a lot of racing at Spa but never on the old circuit, I know you would have to have the "bottle" to do it on 3 wheels though !!
Beautiful men live long !!
Super klasse !!!

Anyone have a record of the music during the credits? The one by the Al Bedard Band. Pretty cool to see Stan Dibben played in that band. Sounded nice, so I'm wondering if there's a digital copy out there?
Good on yer mate!
I would have like to have heard what he thought of the modern outfit
