My jazz guitar hero. How extremely lucky we are to have the guitar virtuoso the musical genius still around in our generation. George Benson is the last of a genre of jazz guitarists who we are fortunate enough to be able to celebrate. There is no other. George Benson is another level - and more. Just look at his rendition of Summertime, the speed, the dexterity, the nous, the virtuosity, the oneness with his instrument - and of course the voice to match. Some call his transition to the Breezing genre smooth jazz - but it's more jazz rock, contemporary jazz, with everything else thrown him. The purists might have said he turned his back on jazz with the hit Breezing but actually he was the trailblazer for a new commercially-styled jazz genre. Many would follow his example. GB after playing the night club circuit from the age of nine to his early 30s nearly gave it all up, until he struck gold with Breezing. Be extremely thankful we have GB around and for his extraordinary musicianship - quite simply, there'll never evet be another GB. One of a kind. What a humble genius the man is too.👏👏👍👌👊

More than worthy of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Mr. Benson single-handedly (well, with two hands, really) moved the jazz idiom forward globally with his unmatched playing, previously unknown rhythmic concepts, and showmanship to invent a new genre of jazz -- smooth jazz. A wonderful ambassador of music around the globe, he is the living example of what commitment and a tireless work ethic can make of God-given talent. My hero, and a breathtaking artist to musicians everywhere, George Benson is in a league by himself. Thanks for posting this remarkable video. Stunning piece of history not lost to time.

Oh no I wish I was thinking about buying a guitar and practice but George Benson is my all-time favorite guitar player as well I'm listening to him since I was 14 years old with my dad introduced me to his music when I was a kid and I haven't looked back since

Awesome Mr GBenson. Off 1973’s Body Talk, right? Reminds me o/t CTI Summer Jazz Hollywood Bowl set July 1972. The CTI experiment was nice while it lasted ... nothing wrong making Jazz more accessible & judging how absorbed the YOUNG audience there, bravo! Note the early version of his Summertime he’d do a Funk Ballad feel over a yr or so later. Thx 4 posting👍
He has great Jesus seen on Jehovahs Witnesses handouts. You should appreciate his good tastes! He obviously reads lots of evidences backing his beliefs!

Awesome footage of pre-Warner. Brothers Benson, my inspiration for playing guitar. Oddly enough, it’s seeing Ron Carter playing a Fender Jazz bass that’s really tripping out. This is one of the times I’ve seen extended footage of him playing electric bass. And then there’s pimped-out Grover😅. As Kool Moe Dee once asked, “How cool can one black man be?”

Yes you're right I believe he left CTI because of creed Taylor didn't want him to sing he wanted him just to play guitar and be a big star like Wes Montgomery

the problem is it seems you are part of the anti Benson crowd who are angry about his crossing over from pure jazz to jazz rock/funk. Obviously maybe you guys have never listened to him really play those ole jazz licks off Benson Burner, White Rabbit, Good King Bad etc. He admired and near-worshipped Wes Montgomery - so is it a bad thing copying your hero's style? You are criticising GB purely for "crossing over" without really giving the genius credit for his jazz nous. I think the issue is that there is only one GB - hardly anyone can reproduce his knowledge and talent and dexterity. I don't class GB - though my jazz guitar hero - as the standout great. But one of the greatest. Joe Pass, Charles Christian, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel, Jim Hall, Larry Carlton, Eric Gale, Earl Klugh etc. Right up there. I won't make comparisons. But Benson's ability can't be matched. Maybe you should listen closer - to his earlier re cordings. Not right to draw willy-nilly assumptions.
