- US Bank Tower, formerly Library Tower and First Interstate Bank World Center, is a 1,018-foot (310 m) skyscraper at 633 West Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles, California. It is the tallest building in California, the thirteenth tallest in the United States, the tallest west of the Mississippi River, and the 65th tallest building in the world. Because local building codes required all high-rise buildings to have a helipad, it was known as the tallest building in the world with a roof-top heliport from its completion in 1989 to 2004 when Taipei 101 opened. It is also the second tallest building in a major active seismic region; its structure was designed to resist an earthquake of 8.3 on the Richter scale. It consists of 73 stories above ground and two parking levels below ground. Construction began in 1987 with completion in 1989. The building was designed by Henry N. Cobb of the architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and cost $350 million to build. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in Los Angeles, often used in establishing shots for the city in films and television programs.
U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles was sold to Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd (OUE), a hotel and property group controlled by Indonesia's Lippo Group in 2013. OUE, a Singapore-based hotel and property company run by Indonesian billionaire Stephen Riady, acquired the tower and other related assets for $367.5 million. OUE acquired the 72-floor office building, the adjacent Maguire Gardens park, and a car park from a unit of Los Angeles-based real-estate investment trust MPG Office Trust Inc.

I have wanted to see the US Bank Tower ever since I saw "Independence Day" as a kid. It's so great that there's now a rooftop observatory and if ever get a chance to visit, I will bring my own "WELCOME TO EARTH" sign for a photo op ;)

I still consider the US bank building the tallest . that long antenna thing doesn't count in my opinion you cant even walk on it or anything so yeah

Hello, my dear friend. Thanks for posting this. It's right up the street from the hotel but I can never seem to remember to go there. I can't figure that out for the life of me. I was always against adding that slide to the building ever since I first heard of it. I'm still not crazy about it but I guess people just like to say it's something they did. Thanks for calling it the tallest building in California (which it is) instead of that new one. My friend from LA and I bristle every time someone says the Wilshire Grand is taller. When did they put those lights on the Bunker Hill Steps? Guess I never paid attention. Hope you can make it to NYC soon.
Myrna Fields ...Ms. Myrna....let me tell you. It’s outrageously over priced. There is really no comfortable place to sit and have a drink, coffee, coke...whatever. They want you in and out. My recommendation is...go over to the new Intercontinental Hotel, take the elevator for free up to the 70th floor lobby and find a nice window table and order a drink (or not) walk around the whole floor and see the views.
That figures. I guess they have to pay for that slide somehow.
Myrna Fields ...I like NYC in the Autumn or Xmas time. Last time I was there...everything....and I do mean everything I wanted to see again was shut down for the day, or the season...or the year. I was fuming. Wherever I walked to...closed. I lived in NYC for 6 months in 1980. The city chewed me up and spit me out. I was poor and miserable there, and my studio apt had roaches and rats. One afternoon, there was a gun shootout with drug dealer neighbor next door and cops. I saw the body bags coming out the door. That was it...I’m out here! I’d had enough. Moving to L A. Oh, I lived in Hells Kitchen.
