You probably know this old motocross trick already but latex gloves under your riding gloves are another robust way of keeping your hands warm on cold and wet riding days. Best to whip them off regularly though as I've had prune hands a few times if I've left them on all day. I don't think they ruin the 'feel' too much either and I'm really fussy about that kinda thing. Bonne chance!
If you want to go even further use thin cotton mesh liner glove under the latex glove. Many moons ago we used those when working in fish factory, keeps your hands warm and comfy for hours!
Same problem though. Any soft plastic will have some sort of bisphenol or phthalates in it. I saw a loofah suggested below. Cons: bacteria collector/hard to clean if used more than once. Pros: no plastic, imparts a refreshing cucumber flavour.
Joe, with that Mucky Nutz fender, do you have any issues with it bottoming out into your frame or being generally loud? I have the XL and find that it is kind of a nuisance / floppy. Thanks!
In regards to the water bottle -What about a natural loofah instead of a sponge maybe ? You may need to do some tests 😀again as it’ just popped into my head
some wd40 sprayed on the grips makes them incredibly tacky even in heavy rain. Also for cold feet, woolen socks will maintain heat even soaking wet. Some shoes allow enough space to sneak a hand warmer in the shoe cap.
!WD40 on the grips! sounds like slippy hands to me. but if that works then you are officially a genius. No doubt next time its raining ill be trying it haha
I assume the solvent in WD40 degrades the rubber a bit giving it more friction? Tempted to try some solvent on my Ride Concepts shoes which I like the fit and uppers, but the rubber isn't as grippy as the Five Ten Stealth. I wonder what the long term effects might be... I'm alright with reduced longevity in return for performance just curious if it's a year or a month...
Didn't take into account different rubber compounds, which may have different results. I've tried it on various cheap(er) grips (like brand-x, stock spesh etc.) and on some Ergons, which worked well on those. What I do is spray 'em up, then rub in nicely with some cloth, let it dry a bit. Cleans the grips nicely too.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong - I have used Sintered pads before, both in wet and dry and don't get the feeling of instant power Joe describes, only brakes that have a wooden feeling that lack bite and power. Am I not letting them bed in enough? I've done some long runs in the Alps with them and still not got any feeling out of them and always go back to organic pads. Hope V4 and E4 brakes by the way. Just got some Galfer Pro compound pads to try, so interested in those.
Dear Mr Barnes, the BBC would cordially like to invite you to attend the Drangons Den with your latest "must have" invention! Yours sincerely Evan Davies. Is it "wack", no, is its a botch job, most definately. And we love it!
Joe if you want to change out that battery for something smaller get in contact with Smudge(Mark) at www.mtbbatteries.co.uk he will be able to custom build you a battery.
So keen for the DIY heated grips video!
Get that heated grip hack video made ! We need that in Scotland with the colder weather knocking on the door 👍🏻
Love it Joe! These tech videos are golden! Especially wet weather stuff
Bit of silicon shine on inside of the mud guard
I remember seeing the heated grips back on your canyon and I’m still dying for a how to video on those fellas!

I have done that a couple of times and too was surprised with how little it changed the "feel". Good tip and one I need to remember more often
@@joebarnes_hazzardracing2913 thanks for the vids by the way Joe, they're excellent.

Love the dnb intro
For cold/wet feet I put a pair of thin socks on, then a plastic bag over the socks and then another thin pair over the plastic bag.
Wowah, I need to try this. I have got some bad boi Endura waterproof socks that do a good job but am always keen on trying a sketchy hack
@@joebarnes_hazzardracing2913 they're the boys. Remember to wring them out from toe to opening though. I burst the lining in mine like a balloon
Sweet idea with the heated grips!
Great vid Joe! Love the music!
Would love to see the DIY heated grips install.
Hey Joe, great vid. I saw your heated grips hack from your old canyon but am still confused about how it works???!!!
As someone mentioned on Pinkbike, a bunch of bpa free drinking straws in the waterbottle should do the trick same as cancerous moto foam
Yea, sounds a easy and safe solution to replace the foam. ill try it

Which car-train are you rolling off there at the start of the video?
Furka pass
Could you do a van video? Curious to see how a pro's set up differs from the usual #vanlife arrangement
what is the song at the beginning and used last time?
It's Ali G from one of the old TV Shows 'Ali G, Innit' ruclips.net/video/Ws6HPTom2AY/видео.html

Will do at some point this trip👍

Do you ever get hassle over the battery from officials thinking it's mechanical doping?
Haven't yet. The EWS know its for the grips and the wires are pretty obvious.
