Just bought a THINKODB 100 for our cars. My daughter's 2001 Honda Accord with 245K miles registered an evap code. I told her to screw on the gas cap a couple of times. Code gone! Gonna buy 4 or 5 Hondas in that generation (1998-2002) for parts, maybe even a 6cyl or two and turbo one for fun. Can't beat this car! Do you sell turbo kits? Thanks.
For oil burning issues in the 2.4, use Valvoline's new Restore and Protect Formula. It cleans the piston rings and prevents excessive oil consumption. I put it in my '09 Vibe GT with 188,666 miles on it and I'm very pleased.
When I first got my AWD Vibe it had 53,000 miles on it, and the first problem I had with it was the gas cap. The code that came up was an EVAP system code. The second problem I had with it was oil leaking from the valve cover. I bought one of the top of the line polyurethane valve cover gaskets. No disrespect to 1A Auto, but if you're going to change out the O2 Sensors, or any electrical component on a Toyota, I highly recommend using the Denso OEM Toyota parts. Toyota specifically programs their ECM to work with Denso electronics.
All easy fixes on this car.. get the 1.8.. if you can!!..2.4 are problematic .. Got over 260k on mine..1.8.. never had issues.. besides normal maintenance
I've had a 2009 Vibe base with currently almost 150k, owned it since 2018 and 60k. Motor mounts will be a mandatory replacement somewhere north of 100k. Also the front suspension (cv joints, control arms and ball joints.) This car seems to eat these components after 100k, just replaced my control arms and ball joints after less than 2 years on the previous set. Keep up maintenance especially oil changes and the 1.8 will run a long time.
P0420 code on that car after only 100k miles. Checked everything else first to see if light would go away but it didn't. I finally changed the cat and light turned off. That GT has the engine that burns lots of oil. Cool car but engine no bueno.
@@JOESRQFLUSA Do Camels drink oil? Either way it's common knowledge among vibe and matrix owners that the 2.4 does consume a little bit more oil than the 1.8 and brake pads might not last as long. But either trim they are still extremely reliable cars
Fun fact, my grandpa had one of these. I think it was a 2004. Of course it was a great car, but he flipped out when he found out it was just a rebadged Toyota. He actually traded it in on a Dodge Caliber a week or 2 later because it wasn’t American.
Mine has an issue of overheating in the summer after driving with the air on for an hour so. Replaced the radiator, water pump, coolant sense and thermostat. Do know it’s not the head gasket either, so not sure! Any ideas?
Thx- i have the same car. 250,000 miles. might need new pcv / hose however the piston ring problem is causing excessive burning. Vibe Club guys advised me to try 505CRO and Shell Rotella Detergent Oil. Ive heard of piston soaking as well. Just want to get the burning down to 1 quart per 500-1000 miles. Then I'll be happy. Wait..wet drivers side floor- sunroom or windshield needs to be fixed. Wait...suspension, ah....lol i love this car even w/ all it's little quirks
I have a question this will be my first car the 2009 VIbe GT and I was wondering if there was any practical things I should look at replacing to improve performance such as gas mileage and anything to make it run more efficiently I don’t know much about cars and I can’t find much online about this particular model
Didn't mention motor mounts? My 09 GT went through a set a year. Main reason I parted ways with it. If it weren't for that I'd still have it. Such a great fun hatch.
At 118,000 When my fuel pump went bad I installed a new one, i had no power at The wire when key was turned to the run position unless I was turning the key to crank the engine I got 12V, I found the fuel relay was bad as well. The relay is located on the left side of the steering wheel under a panel on the dashboard.
Hi My 2005 Pontiac vibe fail to accelerate and pushing it's self to drive, I have changed ECU, THROTTLE, AIRFLOW SENSOR but still give me the same problem
I have a 2009 Vibe with the 1.8 engine. On truly cold starts (like the car has sat overnight) the car will start right up - no problems. If it has only been sitting an hour or two though, the car will struggle to start. I don't have to keep cranking, but it will stumble and falter until it really catches, and then will smooth out and behave normally. During that stumble and struggle I will hear the VVTI gear rattle just very briefly. On normal starts I do not hear it at all. Possible suspects: 1) dirty throttle body 2) Mass Air Filter sensor 3) fuel pump 4) VVTI gear 5) Spark plugs / coils 6) clogged fuel injectors. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate anyone's opinion and advice on how to diagnose for certain.
+Fred Koffie We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
The OEM radio is not very good. Problems with the volume button and problems with the unit itself. The volume button and/or unit will go bad prematurely.
Which brand you used, I used anchor and westar for my Toyota matrix 2007 for transmission mount but holes are not lineup, anyone know any solution Thanks
Mine is a 2005 vine. Love this car hate to see it go. 196645 miles. I do my best to take care of it. Oil spark plugs. My head lights get a odd dirt build up in the input for the bulbs 💡 I’m having to clean it with rubbing alcohol 98%
I have a 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT. I have never had any of these problems. Well I need help. This morning I got in my Vibe as usual. My car would not come out of PARK. It starts like a charm, as always but had to catch a ride to work. The car is stuck in PARK! Somebody tell me what to check first? It's like one of my friends or pet being sick! 😥
We have owned three. Great car great gas mileage Our 2007 with the small engine still doesn’t burn any oil at 250,000 Our 2009 bigger engine is the problem child - all the asb brake lights come on all the time - replaced speed sensor twice and burns oil and hubby has changed the head gasket once and it is leaking again Oil light came on because sensor was covered in oil
360000 kms on factory 2009 1.8l and counting more kms. Bulletproof engines. Avoid 2.4, as they burn a lot of oil compared to 1.8, plus get worse gas mileage.

Got this exact car 6 years ago with 71k, all I've done is routine oil and coolant, tires and alternator, wonderful car, we love it.

Dont forget the airbag safety recall on 2010 Pontiac vibes...check to see of yours is on the recall list
If you have to list a valve cover leak to make a "top problems" video on a particular car, its probably a great car.
+Michael White Thanks for the feedback!
Rust belt is brutal. Really wreaks havoc on frames.😲
My 2003 had crud built up on the gas cap gasket, causing the money light to come on. A wipe with brake cleaner fixed it 😊

@The Machamp the base model is more reliable then the GT
Great little cars!!! CHEERS from Westcoast Canada
Why no mention of the oil consumption issues with the 2azfe motor?
J'ai essayé la solution et elle fonctionne PARFAITEMENT. I have tested the solution and it work PREFECTLY ---TANK YOU
Please what is the solution to the oil consumption
no mention of the 2009 2.4L that drinks oil like a camel? rear brake calipers that seize up every few years?
WOW NEVER HAD EITHER PROBLEM…. ALWAYS MOBIL 1…

Excellent video and instructions, thanks
I subscribed and enjoy your videos. I wish parts were available from A1 Auto to ship to Canada. Rockauto needs some competition.

Odds are that '04 will still be on the road long after the Caliber returns to the earth. I've got 325k miles on my '04 Vibe and still runs strong.
Talk about a foolish decision, especially if he got the V6.
That’s a fun and sad fact at the same time. Weren’t they made in Fremont, California in the current Tesla factory? It was called NUMMI.
I have a 2004 vibe. Best car I've ever had!!
No wonder it last a long time.
Mine has an issue of overheating in the summer after driving with the air on for an hour so. Replaced the radiator, water pump, coolant sense and thermostat. Do know it’s not the head gasket either, so not sure! Any ideas?

The roof antenna always bend too.
Do you know if they were built in California I want to make sure it has the Toyota engine! Thank you!!!
Yes and yes
SO, how do you fix the coil connector problem ?
Please how many litre engine is this particular one you just used in this video

Probably a transmission issue. Maybe parking pawl.
Press the brake pedal? Maybe that safety mechanism is stuck and prevents you from moving the shift lever even though you are holding the brake pedal.
Your brake light switch under the brake pedal is bad. The gear shifter wont release until it senses the brake has been pressed. $25 dollar fix.
Did you try the little button to the right of the shifter?
Thank you I so want one but not one in the winter states something southern!!! SoS!!! Lol!

My vibe is a 2010 with the 2.4 I changed the thermostat but it’s still over heats after 15 mins of driving
I know someone with one of these, every time I see it I'm surprised it's still running...
Why surprised? It’s a Toyota Matrix underneath
Mine has 158,000 miles on it and I've seen them on auction sites with 500k miles & higher.
Thanks!
