I’m now on lots of medication and have a dual ICD and pacemaker fitted. My bpm has hit 240 at rest since the fitting. It’s worrying but in truth I’m ok! I ended up driving to an urgent care and they could not get a pulse reading on the regular intake machines. They ended up having to send me to the ER in an ambulance, they gave me something that they said “reset” my heart and that hurt like a bitch. Tests were ran and stuff but there wasn’t really a reasoning as to why that happened, just said it was SVT and it’s never happened again.

      @mrdoggy8801 2 года назад +2

      Hi Lucy. I'm well aware that you commented over a year ago, however, I feel I should give you a little bit of an explanation. I too have supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), which affects about 35/100 000 people.
      Now SVT is caused by 'faulty electricity' having fun in your heart. I'm no cardiologist, but in short, the heart kind of short-circuits and starts beating much faster. The highest rate I managed to record was about 220 with a handheld oximeter.
      Fortunately, SVT is much different from VT. Supraventricular meaning above ventricle chambers of the heart and tachycardia refers to a heart rate above 100. Therefore, SVT means that whatever's causing the tachycardia, causes the atriums (above chambers of the heart) to also fire properly. Ventricular tachycardia starts in the ventricles and does not properly send sinus electrical impulses throughout the heart. But don't worry, if you get VT, you'll only know after you wake up from resuscitation.
      Fortunately, SVT isn't very dangerous as long as the atriums are filling up enough to pump sufficient blood into the ventricles. You were probably given adenosine which completely restarts the heart in a matter of seconds, I have heard that's not the most exciting drug in the world as 'Raging Artist' has stated. In the future, if you are experiencing symptoms, I would recommend not driving in the unlikely but possible event you could fall unconscious, but rather ask for someone to drive you to the hospital or call an ambulance. Beta-blockers can be given to prevent or reduce the probability of it happening again. Alternatively, if it continues, an ablation may be offered that freezes or 'kill's the little thing responsible for causing all the trouble.

    I've had an episode that looked very similar to her. Similar room. Similar doctors crowding. Family at the bedside worried sick.
    I don't have any serious heart condition, thankfully. But one day I just went into a sudden state of just not being able to control my heart rate at all. It was beating insanely fast and I was just laying down. I started to panic and called family to say I think I need to go to hospital right now.
    Got there and was taken straight through to Resus (never happens so when it did I realised oh wow they're as concerned about me as I am)
    The doctor took a look at me, up at the heart monitor and back at me. Did a literal double take. She said "are you okay? Sit down..." she could not believe I was standing and appeared normal.
    I had multiple tests. Many blood tests. X-ray. ECG. Ultrasound heart scan. And pretty intense questioning by Doctors who seemed pretty sure that I had taken drugs of some sort. They couldn't believe there wasn't a glaring reason for what was happening.
    At one point I overheard the Doctor talking to a cardiologist on the phone. She was completely lost on what to do with me. She said she couldn't discharge me because she had no idea why it was happening and had had no success in bringing the rate down.
    So I was kept in until all the tests had come back and the cardiologist had seen the results and seen me.
    The heart rate started to come down slowly over the next 24 hours but still not normal. But they had all the results back and nothing was wrong. I had a follow up with a cardiologist and was fitted with a recording device to wear for several weeks. Went back and it showed nothing of concern. Had several more ECG tests in that intervening time. All normal.
    So I was discharged. I never got a really concrete reason. They put it down to possibly a very
    severe anxiety/panic response. But ultimately they were not sure. And thankfully it hasn't happened since.

      It sounds like SVT. I'm surprised they weren't able to diagnose it. You should google it. Supraventricular tachycardia. It happened to me last year at age 49. Heart rate shot up out of nowhere, was just doing light housework. Called 911 when I realized I couldn't lower my HR and they rushed me to ER. They diagnosed it right away and used a natural technique to lower it that thankfully worked, so that they didn't have to use drugs. It's frightening. My heart rate was 170 for about 2 hours. I was exhausted for a week afterward, like I'd run a marathon. I'm terrified that it'll happen again. I have a history of palpitations but nothing like this. Look up the condition, SVT, and the natural way to reset your heart rate, called the modified valsalva maneuver. There are videos on RUclips about it and a lot of info on the internet as well.

    • @KatarinaS.
      @KatarinaS. 2 года назад

      Just curious how long ago it happened? Here in US? How high did your HR get? I'm still flabbergasted they didn't know what to do and just let you sit there with a high heart rate for over 24 hours. Juzt 2 hours was hell so can't imagine. They diagnosed me soon as they hooked me up to machines. I feel bad for you.
      FYI, panic attacks don't raise the HR really high for hours. I can't believe they thought that's what it was. Did you even feel panicked? I've had panic attacks and they felt nothing like the SVT. The paramedics suspected a panic attack at first too but when they took my pulse and saw how high it was and that it had already been that way for 45 minutes they rushed me to ER without hesitation.

    Funny. I live with a heart rate of 150bpm and higher 24/7. In fact my case is known around the world. If you want, you can tolerate like I do, but nobody has as severe a case as me in the world.
    I’ve had Adenosine and Cardioversion many times. It’s also good to point out that shocking someone almost never ever causes a heart to stop or have issues, it’s incredibly safe. Even if you shocked a healthy person and healthy heart, no harm would come of it. Adenosine and Cardioversion both stop your heart for a second or two. I’ve had both and the doctors tell you it will feel as if you’re dying and feeling of doom, it’s correct, you can feel your heart stop for a few seconds and it feels like you’re slipping away from life, then it kicks back in. But for me my condition is so unique and rare, that Adenosine or Cardioversion, nor ANY cardiac medications in the world work for me. So I’m stuck with a resting heart rate of 150bpm or over 24/7.
