Thanks for taking the time to post all your videos. I have learned quite a bit in the last couple of hours. I got my bush to bloom pretty well, but needed to learn pruning. I've watched 8 videos, now, and like how straight forward, and honest about it, you are. I'd never cared for roses, before, and was glad to finally come across your vids, as most of the others were like the beginning of your Basics video, I was like, F that S! thanks a ton for sharing your knowledge with the world.
Thanks! I got myself a special rose 'Minerva' and I only got it after seeing your tips & trics. With your help it will grow and flower beautifully. We also have build a trellis for the Paul's Scarlett and hopefully in few years we'll have nice blooming roses. You good teacher! :)
Just watched several of your videos. For the first time ever, I've pruned my climbing rose the proper way...now, I'm expecting great things in the spring.
Yay!! Finally found the answer, you can trim rose bushes during blooming season to keep them shaped pretty!!! I have Oh So Easy rose bushes. Thank you for a great informative video!
Depends where you live! In Canada you prune them in early Spring, once you prune you don't have to during the summer! We deadhead of course, but one pruning will keep them nice all summer!!
I have a question. I have a few rose bushes in front of my house that have grown to be about 5 feet. The tallest parts lean on the wall, so they are ok. I was just wondering if it is possible to let them get taller and keep them at that height all year round.
This is kind of related to the video. I know deadheading is important for repeat flowering in roses, my question is do you normally deadhead as you see the blooms or do you wait until after a flush? I normally do it as I see it, but the blooms are spotty and inconsistent. I was wondering if waiting until after a flush to deadhead would help get more blooms at the same time in your experience.
I usually wait till after a flush just because I find it easier. But yes, I think doing it all at once is also a way to get more at the same time. It's a trick exhibitors use to try and be at peak bloom during a rose show.

I love your videos! I have never had luck with roses, and you have shown me why with your simple teaching. Thank you, I am now a rose grower!!

Are you looking to try and root them to make new plants?
Paul Zimmerman Roses Yes next to a fence as a blind !
I don't but if you search you tube on rooting rose cuttings or something similar they are lots out there!
Depends where you live! In Canada you prune them in early Spring, once you prune you don't have to during the summer! We deadhead of course, but one pruning will keep them nice all summer!!
In a climate such as yours you are right. You have a much shorter season.
Thanks!

I am curious on your partake on rose trees? Also do the rose trees get pruned like a rose bush ? I don’t know if rose trees grow canes
You do prune them the same but don't cut the trunk back. Just the part on top of the trunk. I generally just trim them to keep them shaped.
@@Paulzimmermanroses thanks for the information I will do this

+Paul Zimmerman Roses Nice! That makes sense too - a rose bush covered in blooms means more blooms to choose from. I'm gonna try this. Thanks Paul!
Great!
Yes, you can keep them at that height all year. In that case the only thing you'll cut is dead wood, weak growth and the occasional old cane.
What treatment plan do you recommend for black spot? It has spread to 3 of my rosebushes :(
I recommend picking the leaves off or using something like Safer brand fungicide. It's sulfur based and very safe.
Thanks so much!
