  • Super easy to frame soffits on the wall before lifting and this saves us so much time later. I'll walk you through the lay out and how we use LP SmartSide vented Soffit to help keep the wall straight.

    Please remember that I'm not showing the best way to do anything, but just the method that works well for us. Thanks for watching!
    Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like RUclips if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.com/secure/2458... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

    Brilliant - I have been building soffits in the sky for 30-years - yikes! Your method (building them on the ground) is a game changer. Young guys in the trade - take the time to learn this method. Thanks for teaching this old guy something NEW - PEACE!

    Solid training for your guys. Your jobs are clean, safe, and I’m betting a good time for everyone at least most of the time. I really miss that interaction. Couple things… LP Smartside panels need 3/16” edge spacing. You’re usually a nut about maintaining that so I’m posting for readers who may want to use it. It grows every bit of that. But I’m also wondering why you didn’t lay your cripples out to catch the panel edges? Happy 2023 and I’m def looking forward to more Awesome Framerness.

    A clean jobsite shows that you are a professional. It makes it easier to use the off cuts up. It is a advertisement to the world. I have gotten many jobs from people who said they went with me because I had a clean job site. I tell my helper that your mom doesn't want to come home to a messy house so why would she want to pay someone to mess up her house.
    A clean job site has gotten me loads of work over time. And since they assume you are good at your work your bid becomes less of a issue if you are a little higher than the others.

    We still do it old school as 2 story buildings now require all encompassing scaffolding. I was always devour about slowing down as contract rates here are so tight you have to go go go to make money. Also in my state we only use 2 x 4 in framing (35mm x 70mm actually)

    Can I ask a question: why not also install (some) siding and trim while the wall is laying down? It seems like there could be a clever way to do that in some instances?

    I think I herd you mention it in the video but have you done this with 2ft overhangs? I live in a pretty snowy and wet climate (northwest, BC) and we have always framed ladder sets for 2ft overhangs, like you say its a lot slower to do it that way. I would way rather do the framing and soffits from the ground then up on scaffold, just not sure how it would hold up to our snow loads here?

    What are your thoughts on putting screening behind the vented soffit to prevent bugs coming in? This was recommended when I put up fiber cement soffits. Not sure if it makes a difference but those holes were round.

    • @AwesomeFramers

      No need in my view. If you look up the product info on the SmartSide vent it shows the size of those slots in relation to bugs.

    I can't stress enough for anyone watching that what he is doing with the soffit is on a"perfectly" flat foundation. If you try the putting soffit on a wall that is crooked because the foundation is you will transfer the crooked foundation to your wall unless you take the time to straighten the wall while it is laying down. If you don't, that soffit is incredibly hard to correct once it is stood up because it is acting like an I beam perpendicular to the wall.

    • @h2s142
      @h2s142 Год назад

      Construction Industry standard for levelness is 1/4” in 8’ anything outside that must be corrected at underfloor framing before wall systems.

    How come you run the sheathing vertically? It was my understanding that running them that way weakens the strength of the wall. If they are set horizontally then wouldn't the 8 foot span cross more studs and have a stronger hold? Or is the ZIP siding strong enough that it doesn't matter?

    • @TheCwag
      @TheCwag Год назад

      check with your building permit office or if you have a engineer. in your shearwall if all edges are blocked and you run vertical its best to use 9 or 10 foot sheathing to break midway on rim jost. I've had engineer also add blocking 32" spacing in wall cavity to make up the stregth loss when you use osb in the week orientation.

    • @AwesomeFramers
      @AwesomeFramers  Год назад +1

      no, that's a common misconception. The "strength axis" refers to the loads perpendicular to the panel, like floor or roof sheathing. For lateral, wood structural panels can be installed either way. All edges must be blocked for shear walls.

    • @rhysbriden5777
      @rhysbriden5777 Год назад

      @@AwesomeFramers So, by lateral you mean wall systems? Because I would assume that a lateral load refers to forces acting parallel to the ground running horizontally. I thought wall systems were more gravitational loads rather than lateral ones. Would it be possible for you to make a video in the future detailing why you can run the sheathing that way, or maybe you already have one that I have missed. Either way, your videos are so informative and I really appreciate the time you take to create these videos. They are super helpful!

      You forget that the soffits done and your not leaning over on your knees 20ft or so. Really neat way of doing it but will need a tellhandler to lift.
