The Silent Return of Telltale Games

  • There was a time I'd probably call myself a "Telltale game enjoyer" if prompted before breaking the illusion that your choices actually do anything (they mean NOTHING in reality). And now the company's back. Technically they have been since July 2023 yet nobody's talking about it. The game Telltale chose to come back with, "The Expanse" is based on a Netflix show that got canned for budget and low viewership reasons and in all honesty doesn't seem that interesting. All we've gotten from the Wolf AMOGUS 2 is still just radio silence besides that trailer 2 years ago, no news on that Stranger Things game despite Telltale working with Netflix to make The Expanse, and I'm still holding out hope for Batman season 3. If you ask me, Telltale definitely has a chance to make a big comeback here if they pull themselves together and put out something the fans actually WANT but if they keep making licensed games like this for the highest bidder they'll probably fall back into the same rut they did in 2018 before LCG Entertainment's acquisition. All I really want from Telltale is for them to put out Batman season 3 and to give up the publishing rights for 7 Days to Die on console so we can FINALLY get some updates and potentially cross-play on the console versions.

I’d argue Tales from the Borderlands was the best Telltale game

I just realized I was probably thinking of that game’s sequel “NEW Tales from the Borderlands” (which wasn’t made by Telltale) while looking at the Steam charts, so oops, mb. 😂

Tales from the borderlands was one of the best ones it was hilarious and the choices actually had some decent effects later on

I actually kinda liked The Expanse
It didn't have me all immersed like The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us, but it still felt really good and nostalgic to play a Telltale game in 2023, the plot was simple but fine
I'm treating The Expanse as a preview of what The Wolf Among Us 2 might look like gameplay-wise, can't wait for it to come out

Honestly that’s a really good way to look at it. I didn’t check it out since the price tag seems steep and I wasn’t interested in the IP at all, but judging off the gameplay it does seem like Telltale did make some noteworthy changes to their formula (mainly 3rd person movement like they kinda had in the last season of TWD).

Tell Tale’s game of thrones series with the whitehills and forrester’s was my favorite of theirs. And the major choices actually feel like real choices that matter, which it has to being game of thrones. Major characters are going to die, but you get to pick which, and it does change a lot of ways that things play out. Obviously the ending there with Asher or Rodrik doesn’t really change, but the way of getting to that ending changes significantly, which also changes the story.

Great video as always, Poker Night ATI is a really fun game but it’s all based on if you like the dialog. I wish you could actually buy it without stealing it saying how telltale exists again but oh well.
