I keep looking for me in these pictures. I was from the chrysler engine lab and we often showed up at events to help the mopars. Best job ever i also was a driver and dyno tech. I would say to people that i even get paid to do this.;-)
I can watch Super Stock racing ALL....DAY....LONG. NHRA pro classes (top fuel, funny car,pro stock)are so completely homogenized now. But Super Stock still has Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Mopar, Chevy,
And Ford's. Big blocks, small blocks, full size cars, intermediates, pony cars, muscle cars. Variety that's missing in the Pro classes and most likely will never return.
God, I miss those days. Pro stock, S/S, hell, all the stock classes. I miss class racing. I can't believe this video hasn't scored more hits. Then again, I guess it's a sign of the times. Very sad.
Nice vid.Only prob is Fsust is dead wrong on the auto trans thing. No way in hell could GM beat the T-flite so they resorted to neutral drops to get an edge on the line. They blew up all over the strip but the T-flite with the cut up Ford converter would leave at over 3,000. Yes the first hi stall converter for the hemi S/S package used a 6 cylinder ford Falcon converter housing with a Chrysler hub and stator. This was Chryslers "F" converter which all auto cars got till they released the "M" converter. Many racers went with the T-flite if class allowed. The only thing the turbo 400 is famous for is welding up the high gear clutch pak.
God Bless Burlington North Carolina my home sweet Home, of Sox & Martin, plus my Mom was was born in Randolph County , Liberty, North Carolina, very very close to by best friend and fan of Richard Petty , Hey Richard !!!! I have all your important stuff , that was for collectors.
If a driver was complying with all the regulations with a certain brand of car, they should've never handicapped them, instead the different brands like Chevy should've had to step up to the plate or take a back seat in the American market.
The big block camaro was NOT competitive against the Hemi. It wasn't until they added weight to the mopars that Chevy was competitive. The bar has always had to be lowered so Chevy could compete. Mopar or no car!
It's 2019... And EVERY Top Fuel funnycar and Top Fuel dragster IS powered by a Chrysler derived HEMI.... FACT ! Doesn't matter WHAT is says in the side (ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc), there is a HEMI between the frame rails GUARANTEED. Same goes for Top Alcohol classes. The Pro Stock class has become a boring cater to GM class... Everyone else has pulled the plug, why try.... You will be weighted, plated, banned or whatever to let the sanctioning bodies "buddies" win. Racing, across the board, passed away in the 70's
NHRA and NASCAR.... Slow them all down so the whiny loser can win... NO, make YOUR car faster ! Factor the HEMI out, yeah make racing BORING, like it is TODAY......

The hemi was a top end monster
The Camaros were never able to compete with the Hemis. The NHRA added 350 pounds to the Mopars to allow the boat anchor Chevys to compete!

Hemis were Big horses, Chevys were ponies.
Hemi rules.
